Negotiation Falls Through, Lockout To Continue

New York, NY - All hope of the 2011-12 season starting on time seems to have been lost today, after the two sides met for roughly three hours. After making some headway last week, a meeting on Tuesday was scheduled to see if there truly was a chance of getting a deal done. A source close to the situation says that negotiation ceased completely after a heated meeting that saw the two sides become more divided than ever.
The players are pursuing a deal similar to the expired CBA, with a salary cap just south of $60 million as well as a soft cap. The owners meanwhile pursue a hard cap of just $45 million. No follow-up meetings were scheduled, and union member Matt "Red Rocket" Bonner tweeted "fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck" after the meeting.![]()
We may be here for a while...
The NBA season is scheduled to begin October 27, 2011. The last lockout occurred in 1999 and resulted in a 50 game season. When asked why the deal went through, NBPA Vice President Chris Paul said "You know, my kids have got to eat. Caviar ain't cheap."

Blazers To Revamp Front Office With New GM, Assistant GM

In an NBA lockout, it seems just about any NBA news is good news. Such is the case today, as I unexpectedly did not take the day's events poorly - as little sense as they might have made.
The six month long public search for a GM (started by the inexplicable firing of the excellent Rich Cho) has finally concluded. Blazers team president Larry Miller has scheduled a press conference for this evening, and the replacement for interim GM Chad Buchanan is expected to be announce. According to multiple reliable sources, the new general manager of the Portland Trailblazers is...
*drumroll*
Don Nelson! Nelson, 71, is the most winning coach in NBA history but has never won an NBA championship. Next to his accolades, Nelson is likely best known for his unorthodox offensive strategies, which tend to include speeding up the pace, not running plays and not playing defense. It will be interesting to see how the roster moves he makes will complement Nate McMillan's grind it out style. Yikes.![]()
Don't even think about it, Nellie...
Additionally, a young scouting intern in the franchise has unexpectedly been named the assistant general manager. University of Washington graduate Liam Washburn will fill the position. Little else is known about Washburn at this time.
The press conference is scheduled for 2:00 PM tomorrow. In lockout news, the two sides made their first meeting in nearly two months. No progress has been reported however.

Blazers Announce 2012 Season Schedule
March 1, 2012 - It's official - we are going to have a season. Well, sorta. The shortened, 29 game regular season will go from March 6 to April 25 and surprisingly feature an all-star game and rookie challenge. (due to the lockout, Los Angeles will host the festivities again - pushing Orlando back to 2013 and Houston to 2014. The season is dense with a myriad of back-to-backs, which could work to the Blazers' advantage based on their record in the second game of back-to-backs last season.
Opening in Toronto, and ending in Golden State, the season will then shift to the playoffs, which will have a full 7-7-7-7 format. The Blazers will play 15 home games and 14 on the road. Get hyped!3/6 - @ TOR
