Dennis Rodman's HOF speech

Best to prepare a tissue to wipe your eye if you're the emotional type.
Dennis Rodman wasn't crying, it's just been raining on his face

I expected him to be wearing fur and not that blue fluffy thing on his shoulder

i hate ahmad rashad.

the yahoo article said they were surprised he got so emotional and whatnot, but if they watched his ceremony for his #10 being retired, they wouldn't have been surprised. the hof speech was good though. wish he would've mentioned chuck daly a bit more. i might go out and buy his book bad as i wanna be now. i read it when i was younger, but i'd like to read it again

He would've been an emotional wreck to do that repeatedly by remembering Daly. Daly really means a lot to him but Rodman doesn't like to dwell on the emotional stuff as we can obviously see on his speech.
He didn't even attend Daly's funeral because he can't handle the emotion. Read that on the Bulls write-ups about Rodman (and other Bulls HOF inductess). You can find the link in the Bulls thread.

Loved his entrance. Loved his emotions. Loved his career more.

He deserves it. Great player who made his name with toughness and wackiness. Today's league needs more of that. :applaud:

True.

Rodman, who presented the honorary game ball prior to Game 2 of the Eastern Conference Finals matchup featuring the Bulls and Heat. “They’ve got this team, but being out there was really cool. It’s nice to see that people haven’t forgotten you. I’ll take it.”

As for the Heat and any comparisons they and their stars might merit to the Bulls of the 1990s, Rodman doesn’t want to hear them.

“They don’t have the flair,” Rodman said. “Michael and Scottie never complained. They never tried to sit there and make excuses. They never did that, not even when they first started. They had to adjust to each other and once they did and they beat us in 1991, they figured out how to win.

"I was here for less than half a year and we went 72-10,” Rodman added. “How long do you need to be with somebody to understand the game of basketball? You know who the captain of the ship is, you know who the first mate is and you know the role players. Basically, all you’ve got to do is come together and gel. You can’t have any excuses anymore. You get paid millions of dollars a year to go out and play ball and understand you’re a leader, not a follower.

lol... don't worry don't worry. The Heat gonna come together. We ain't the Bulls of 90s who were arguably the greatest ever.

Great speech. :applaud: It's great that he got into the Hall first ballot, for years I feared they'd snub him because of all the antics but he absolutely deserves the recognition.

 ok I didn't cry, but I felt what he was saying. Under all of the... ya know, he's just a great defensive guy (one of the best of all-time), & he was honored to get into the Hall.

Arvydas Sabonis.
He had a short speech so his video introduction is included.
Plus a short NBA TV feature about him and showing his hate for Ahmad Rashad by declining to be his 'main man'. (Y)

A couple of Rodman stories:
Rodman cut his own path to Hall of Fame
Dennis Rodman, Hall of Famer

Funny story from Steve Kerr in the first article:

“The work is what set Dennis apart,” Kerr said at one point during the after party. “A lot of guys work very hard out there, but he worked harder. He wanted the ball more than anyone, and he literally did whatever it took to get it.”

That led to a mention of the memorable photo in which Rodman was captured leaping completely horizontally to save a ball from sailing out of bounds.

“You know that classic SI shot where Dennis is completely sprawled out?” Kerr asked. “Well, that was off one of my missed shots, and Dennis was trying to save the possession. Everyone saw that and said, ‘Wow, what an incredible dive!’ I said, ‘Wow, what an awful shot! I really had to miss that one badly for the ball to bounce that far.”

He was a nice defender and rebounder. Mostly liked Sabonis's speech. Plain and simple. IT'S OKAY!
