this picture is extracted from the xplayers.viv file. Could you tell who is this guy ? :D

Even if some cyberfaces were pretty OK, EA did a really poor job on this one plus some other :(

I think EA gets to much shit of their cyberface makin'. Think about it: Doing more than 400 cyberfaces and make em all look good is impossible.
I think they have done a good job.

And no I don't know who the player is.

Sun May 09, 2004 7:06 am

Well. A lot of players don't look good in the .fsh but does in the game.

This player I don't know... Marbury maybe?

Sun May 09, 2004 8:35 am

Marbury

Sun May 09, 2004 9:01 am

Nope, that ain't marbury.

I remember when I struggled with my Main Event for 2-3month ago or so.
This was the best pic that could be found at the time:Image
But the result got pretty damn good IMO with the knowledge of the pictures quality that I used.

the franchise (steve francis)?

Sun May 09, 2004 10:57 am

it has to be marbury! it looks just like him!

Sun May 09, 2004 11:44 am

Charlie Ward?

Sun May 09, 2004 12:15 pm

it's not marbury, the original marbury has a chin strap and I think it's actually quite good. Don't think I've replaced it with any patches.

Sun May 09, 2004 12:35 pm

Bruce Bowen?

Sun May 09, 2004 12:41 pm

Nick Van Exel.

Sun May 09, 2004 6:30 pm

Michael Curry?

Andrew you're the man !

This cyberface could look like Bruce Bowen, but it's Nick the Quick indeed.

And Slam Harder, I think that most of EA cyberfaces are bad, and it's a shame cause their graphists are paid to do this work all year long, and finally Tony, Kevin, Repole and some other patchers take the game and release better quality cyberfaces in their spare time. Something's wrong at EA

Mon May 10, 2004 2:52 am

LOL, you can't compare like that, Tony and all the other patchers work with a face maybe 1-4 days before they release it. @ EA, they probably work 10 times faster.

Give Tony and some more patchers over 400 faces to do and then give them a deadline, and we will see that the average face won't be better than EA

Well let's say that it takes 4 hours to make a cyberface ... As EA Graphists have already under their hands the high quality pictures provided by the NBA (they no longer have to search on the web). So a patcher could do 2 cyberfaces a day ... There is 365 days between each Live release. People work about 220 days per year ... Then just one graphist can make the 400 NBA players plus a bunch of legends and free agents :) And don't imagine what they could do if they were two only for cyberfaces ... No excuse for EA, no excuse. They just have to hire graphists and programers who love the NBA and know the players for real, then the Live series will be taken at another level.

Well let's say that it takes 4 hours to make a cyberface ...
No. It would be more likely that it takes them a day or two.

And they don't work the year around. The models need to be finished before putting textures on them so the game needs to be finished to some extent before starting on the fine-tuning with textures and such.

Most of the Bhed files are the same as last years. If u have both games installed pick some files at random and i bet u at least 50% of the faces are exactly the same as last years, except slightly different color/tone! The big difference this year is the headshape detail, the headshapes last year where so bad i cant even put it into words.

Mon May 10, 2004 5:26 pm

I also wonder why Live 2001, 2003 and 2004 cyberfaces are twice smaller than the ones in 2000 who were perfect at a 512 x 512 resolution ?

it doesn't take me more than 2 hrs to do a cyberface. i doubt it would take someone like tony who's been doing this for so long now...more than 30 minutes.

you don't really think patchers spend 4 long days working on a cyberface, do you? true, it might take a few days to put together a good patch but no one works on the patch the whole damn day  people do have a life outside of patching.

Tue May 11, 2004 4:20 am

So you don't think that the EA guys got a life outside makin' cyberfaces?
I sometimes take more than 4 days to work with a face, cause I have other things to do, so I don't do the face in just one single step. Call me a bad patchmaker, but that's the way I work.

...that's Nickety nick?

Tue May 11, 2004 4:26 am

...another take is that these guys might have other responsibilities other than cyberfaces to create? I don't think they hire just one cyberman or two but that they have many responsibilities, one of them is to do the faces of other players. Taking that we don't really know the infrastructure of their project teams, it's really hard to figure out how much alloted time they have to do for this one thing on their tasklist.

...plus it just gives us the chance to create 'the official' look of the cyber player.

Anyway, I wonder how often they read our posts thinking we're a bunch of dumb-ass*s because we're on the outside thinking we know exactly what goes on. Anybody here that used to work for a company like EA?

actually, one cyberface face takes me no more than 1 hour to make. that's if i want it to really look good. if i was to make it ea's quality, it wouldn't take me more than 10 minutes.

now you do the math if the yearly face quota could be met...

man, you do patching only in your leisure time, after school and homework. imagine it would be your daily work, 8 hours a day. would it still take you 4 days ? And they still could have a life outside making cyberfaces. Slam Harder, they are PAID for this do you understand ?

HonorGlow wrote:another take is that these guys might have other responsibilities other than cyberfaces to create?

It's possible, but the graphic team may be about 10 people big (if I recall correctly the Live 2000 credits), with a boss, a person dedicated to graphicals parts in menu, etc etc ... Maybe they are 2, 3 or more people working on cyberfaces, with some better than others, but as skilled personnel they must have a minimum level.

honorglow wrote:...plus it just gives us the chance to create 'the official' look of the cyber player.

maybe the only positive side of patching :)

If that's the case, EA Sports Canada should be more intelligent and communicate more often towards us. No need to come here if they don't wanna be flamed, they could only post news on easports.com. They can have good reasons why some parts of the game are disappointing, but the least could be they explain us why. A lot of game developpers communicate with their community, why not us ? I really feel that EA Sports doesn't listen our complaints
