My comments are late, but for my two cents.

You need not change every element of the jersey. You could change the designs on the side but retain the word mark (not sure if that's the right way to call it)
The Pacers jersey would've been a breathe of fresh air if you mixed the new jersey design but retained the current word marks.
Same as with Detroit, Suns (although I'm liking the current one) and Hawks (instead of reverting all the way back 2007)
I think that makes them more realistic though I'm supposed to understand they're fictional.

Problem is the NBA has a retro fad going on so I wanted to keep it realistic and go along those lines so I searched for concepts to map out which teams Im going to do. As far as leaving the current wordmarks the Pacers wordmark was arched and you cant take the straight across band on the chest from their past and put it on an arched WM. If I arched a band over the WM it would scream Sonics. Detroit was a fictional alternate designed after Detroit's classic Auto history. The Hawks were pretty much just a recoloring. The Suns wordmark from the 90's was their best in history and what's wrong with the Cavs? It's based off of the template in an earlier post which is a mix of their jersey now and from the striped 70's jerseys.
