Btw, I'm already practising on my one-legged fade-away, ready to shoot over some midgets

Hova, you don't need a one-legged fadeaway to score on Sit, just dunk on him

Howard Pulls Out Of All-Star Weekend

Image

February 13, ORLANDODwight Howard has pulled out of the 2014 NBA All-Star Game to be held in New Orleans due to private problems. The reigning Defensive Player of the Year has always been a drawcard on and off the court for the NBA. Howard is averaging 16 points, 11.6 rebounds, 2.7 blocks a game this season.

Commissioner David Stern is to choose a replacement for Howard in the starting five.

Iggy Gets Starting Spot Ahead Of Wade

February 13, PHILADELPHIA – The NBA has announced that there was a mistake in the tallying of All-Star Game votes and that Andre Iguodala will start alongside Barney Steele in the Eastern Conference backcourt. It was originally announced that Dwyane Wade would be starting. The Sixers’ Iggy is once again having another tremendous season as he enters the All-Star break with averages of 23 points, 7 rebounds, 6 assists per game.

All-Star Rosters Finalised

Image Image

February 13, NEW YORK – The 2014 NBA All-Star Game will feature five debutants and a couple of surprising additions. The game is to be held in New Orleans and there are plenty of storylines that will be interesting for fans to follow.

Kevin Durant and Lebron James have thrown down the gauntlet against eachother and promised to put on a show for fans. Moses Chara doesn’t have much to say as he is recovering from injury and many have not forgotten his performance in last year’s game. The West (barring Durant) have vowed to try and help Hornets PG Chris Paul bring home MVP honours for the game. Dwight Howard’s absence will pave the way for some young big men to strut their stuff on the big stage.

OJ Mayo will make his debut as an All-Star. The young star was once touted by Kobe Bryant as a future All-Star and it seems fitting that the Lakers’ veteran’s absence from this team has paved the way for Mayo to appear. Mayo is averaging 24 ppg, 5.4 rpg, 4.9 apg, 1.9 apg for the Memphis Grizzlies in their first season without starting PF Martti Must.

Joining Mayo on the West All-Stars are other first year players Louis Nixon and Janis Kalnins. Nixon has always been the best sixth man in the NBA and his transition to being a starter has been seamless with his selection to the West bench. Nixon has played outstanding basketball up to this point of the season by averaging 20.5 points, 9 assists and 2 steals on .500 shooting from the field and .486 from behind the three point line. Kalnins has been a revelation for the Minnesota Timberwolves as he has performed on both ends of the floor. The centre is averaging 15 points, 9 rebounds, 3.3 blocks per game and shooting an outstanding .447 from behind the arc.

The East’s two debutants are Chicago’s Derrick Rose and New York’s Travis Ward. The Bulls’ number 1 pick of the 2008 NBA Draft is averaging 17 points, 4.5 rebounds, 7.4 assists and 2.2 steals per game. His inclusion means that the top 3 picks of the 2008 Draft will be a part of this year’s All Star Game (Rose, Michael Beasley and Mayo). The Knicks’ young centre Ward has been heralded as the franchise’s saviour. Ward has been averaging 17 points, 7.5 rebounds, 2.4 blocks per game for the Knicks this season.

All-Stars Chara, Beasley Will Play Hurt

Image Image

February 14, NEW ORLEANS – Miami’s Michael Beasley has a broken finger and Sacramento’s Moses Chara has a sprained groin but that won’t stop the pair from participating in the upcoming All-Star Game. Both players arrived in New Orleans and attended their respective team’s practices.

Beasley joins Dwyane Wade as the two Heat representatives while Chara is the only member of the Kings to be a part of the mid-season showcase.

Karl Won’t Overexert Stealth Players

Image

February 14, NEW ORLEANS – Seattle Stealth Head Coach George Karl has made it clear that he will not play his stars Kevin Durant, Reshawn Tyson and Andrew Bogut for too long in the All-Star Game. The Stealth are leading the league with a 41-10 record and Karl is adamant about adding to his players’ fatigue.

“I need them for the home run so I’m going to give them half a game each tops,” the frontrunner for Coach of the Year stated. Karl also made reference to Kings forward Moses Chara, “I’ve been asked by his team’s staff to limit his minutes too. I will be happy to oblige because we need to see him in the playoffs.”

Anthony Happy In New Jersey

Image

February 14, NEW ORLEANS – After the Eastern Conference All-Stars completed a scrimmage and meeting with fans, Carmelo Anthony was brought aside to talk about how he felt to be back in the NBA All-Star Game after a 5 year absence from the game. The last time he was selected to play was in 2009.

“I can’t believe it’s been 5 years already,” Anthony admitted, “I’m really happy where I’m at now. New Jersey is a great team to play for and we have so much talent.” Anthony was referring to the fact that he had three other teammates on the East team: Barney Steele, DJ Schmidt and Chris Bosh. “Coming to New Jersey was the best decision of my career,” he said, “I’ve never felt better.”

Anthony is averaging 25 points, 5.6 rebounds, 2.4 assists and 1.4 steals per game. The third overall pick of the 2003 NBA Draft was asked what he felt of the Nets’ title chances to which he replied, “We still need to beat Cleveland and even before then, we need to get higher on the standings. We need a better record and good seed.” He also reflected on the NBA’s leading team, “Seattle are dangerous. Jason (Kidd) should have been their fourth All-Star. If we meet them in the NBA Finals, I think that would be an amazing series.”

Unlucky not to see Kidd but we don't want it to become Stealth v Nets do we?

And I let you guys come up with the conspiracy theories.

Fixed re: Draft year. Don't know what I was thinking.

Chris Bosh is actually good in this story so I won't say anything however... funny thing that the cpu did was change the East starting five. Must be a glitch but Beasley was starting but when game started, it moved Bosh to starter haha

Who is Donnell Lawrence and who is Kalnins?

Karl could play Chara longer, so he might get injured ;)

West Shoots Down East From Long Range
Western Conference All-Stars vs. Eastern Conference All-Stars: 121-103
Preview | Boxscore | Recap | Highlights

Image

February 16, NEW ORLEANS (AP) – Kevin Durant and Lebron James were supposed to put on a show for the ages but in the end it was the West’s young guns who stole the show. Reshawn Tyson and West All-Star debutants Janis Kalnins and OJ Mayo combined to score 63 and paced the Western Conference All-Stars to an easy 121-103 win over the Eastern Conference All-Stars.

New Orleans Hornets PG Chris Paul stated after the game how fun the weekend had been, "It was great to host the All-Star Weekend in New Orleans this year. I felt like it was a great success but now it's time for us to get ready for the rest of the season and the playoffs." Paul was in a press conference with All-Star MVP Tyson and drew laughter when he added, "Plus we need to catch up to you guys (Seattle)."

The West began the game with a 13-2 run and later extended their advantage with a barrage of three point shots. Tyson took matters into his own hands in the opening period by scoring 12 of his game high 26 points. Tyson added 6 assists and 3 steals to his tally and also connected on 9 for 11 shooting. He was perfect from behind the arc (4-4). The 3-time All-Star garnered MVP honours for the game.

Kalnins looked like a seasoned veteran as he wowed the New Orleans crowd with a handful of dunks courtesy of Tyson’s pinpoint passes and also used his size well on the other end of the floor to clean up the glass. Kalnins was also impressive with the ball as he racked up 6 assists to go with his 19 points and 11 rebounds. The second year Timberwolves player came off the bench for the West and Coach George Karl was duly impressed, “Kalnins is a dangerous player. I don’t know how I would describe him but he is probably a more athletic Dirk Nowitzki. I know that Minnesota is a team I’m not looking forward to seeing my team play against in the postseason.”

The young OJ Mayo finished with 18 points on near-perfect shooting. The Memphis Grizzlies SG shot the ball well after coming off the bench to give the West a boost and was 3-3 from behind the arc. In his first All-Star game, Mayo stated that he was happy to be on the same team as ex-teammate Martti Must again. “It was good to hang with Martti this weekend,” Mayo said, “We put aside any bad feelings (from him leaving) this weekend and just balled. It was good.” The promising SG is averaging a career high 25 points a game this season and said he was excited to be the face of the franchise.

The West got valuable contributions from the rest of their roster except for one source: Moses Chara. The reigning league MVP has been struggling with a strained groin and that bad form did not change in this All-Star Game. The Sacramento King scored 2 points on just 1-5 shooting from the field. Chara did not speak with reporters after the game.

The East did not have much of a chance as the West ran away with the win. The West knocked down 17 three pointers and did not look threatened at all during the night. Lebron James, Chris Bosh and Dwyane Wade each scored 12 points to lead the East. Three other players were in double figures: Andre Iguodala, Barney Steele (11 apiece) and Gilbert Arenas (10).

“What a terrible loss,” James lamented afterwards, “After last year’s game, I thought we had this one.” He also distanced himself from the loss, “I tried my best to get everyone in the game. I got (8) assists and I didn’t shoot poorly. I did pretty well, we just didn’t win.”

Notes: Trade rumours have begun to surface over the weekend with Washington’s Gilbert Arenas reportedly a trade target for the Orlando Magic… Kevin Durant played only in the first and third quarters despite the crowd chanting, ‘We want Kevin’… Lakers SG Kobe Bryant attended the game despite missing out on a spot on the roster. Bryant has been mentoring OJ Mayo since he entered the league as a rookie… Next year’s All-Star Game will be held in Atlanta…
