Trade Proposal: Howard for James?

Postby Lord_JB on Wed Jun 15, 2011 4:47 pm

Since the Heat losing to the Mavericks.. Jeff Van Gundy, the younger brother of the Magic's head coach, spreads a crazy idea.
He said trading Howard for LeBron James, for Miami to be a more balanced team.
Because James and Wade are similar, they need the ball in their hands specially at crunch time.

It is a wild idea that Jeff commented on, but do you think it is fair or possible to happen?
Since Howard already addressed that he will be testing the free agency for 2012.
Is it a good move for the Magic to trade their star player for another star player instead losing him for NADA despite of LeBron's Disloyalty?

The guy who posted this is a returning banned member who has been banned once again but since the subject has been raised, I'll leave the thread open.

I think it's crazy and highly unlikely. Yes, LeBron deserves some of the blame for the Heat coming up short in the Finals and yes, Dwight Howard is a great player who most teams would give up just about anyone to have. But the Heat do not need to trade LeBron and I doubt the thought has crossed Pat Riley's mind for even a moment. Once again, these are overreactions to the loss. The Heat could've played better in crunch time and LeBron was part of that problem, but two wins shy of a championship is not a horrible season and cause to make such drastic changes.

You don't trade the best offensive player in the league for the best defensive player when your issues are on the offensive end.

i may be the lone voice but i would make the trade. i rather have the last dominant big game with a wing over 2 wings. i think they would be a much better team with howard instead of james. now i also dont think any trade is needed, this heat team will win a ring and james is overall better than howard i just think howard is a better fit for the team. there is also the potential to pick up another piece since everyone knows james is worth more and orlando probably expects howard to bolt

Sauru, we get u. That's a widely popular way to build a winning team unless you have a MJ and Pip. If I wasn't a Heat, I might be claiming the similar thing just for the fun sake.

they wouldn't trade James away just because he disappeared in the Finals. overall, he is a valuable asset to the Heat

If you were going to make a move, one of the wings for a big is probably the move to make, but I really don't see that as being necessary at this point.

I think the Heat did quite well for their first year with this team. I expect to see them in the finals next year as long as everyone is healthy.

We're also forgetting the trio's ego. For instance Wade wouldn't feel right about the trade involving any one of the trio at this stage of their career. I am sure they'd rather redeem(?) themselves and come back stronger next year. I heard the talk of Riley's attempt to come back as a coach was also diminished due to the trio's ego. Certainly it can't be a healthy thing but it is what it is I guess.

Besides, the Heat were just short of two wins. JVG was just having fun talking.

It's what JVG does, throwing out a wild suggestion or claiming "there should be a rule...". It's what makes him both entertaining and a little annoying when he vehemently argues something that's a bit too silly.
