Magic Acquire Tony Allen from Memphis, sends J-Rich in exchange


Orlando, FL –- The Orlando Magic have acquired guard Tony Allen from the Memphis Grizzlies in exchange for guard Jason Richardson, General Manager Otis Smith announced today. Per team policy, terms of the deal are not disclosed.

"Tony is a hardworking defender and player overall and his skills will be a tremendous addition to our team," said Smith. "He has become one of the league’s premier defensive stoppers at the wing position, as for Jason, we wish him good luck in Memphis."

Allen, a 6-4, 213-pound guard spent his last season with Memphis after signing a contract to them. He lately been reported that he's not happy with the team and looking to play elsewhere. In all 82 games for the Grizzlies, Allen averaged career-lows in every statistical category, 4.7 points per outing, 1.0 rebounds and 0.7 steals only.

While Richardson, he just signed a new 2yr contract with the Magic this last summer and this trade surprised him. J-Rich averaged 14.9 points, 4.8 rebounds, and 1.2 steals for the Magic last season.

Allen will be sporting a #42 jersey number, the number he used with the Celtics last two seasons. Magic roster stands now at 15.
