What is the real cost of the NBA championship trophy? Is it pure gold coated? I'm gonna steal it if it is
Wed May 25, 2011 3:02 pm
From Wikipedia:
The trophy, made of 14.5 pounds of sterling silver and vermeil with a 24 karat gold overlay, stands two feet tall. It is designed to look like a basketball about to enter a net. The basketball itself is nine inches in diameter, about the same size as a NBA regulation ball. Valued at $13,500, the trophy is manufactured by the Tiffany & Co. Silver Shop every year. The winning team maintains permanent possession of the trophy. The year and team names are engraved on the trophies, and are often prominently displayed in the team's arena.

oh I didn't comes in my mind.. Its not really expensive just I thought..
Wed May 25, 2011 4:09 pm
Yeah, thought it would cost way more.
Wed May 25, 2011 4:47 pm
I daresay it's more about the honour and prestige of winning the championship than the value of the trophy itself.
Wed May 25, 2011 4:50 pm
Absolutely, but i personally thought itll cost waay more then 13k. Then again i thought it was actually all gold.
Wed May 25, 2011 5:26 pm
Well,it would cost more if it would be only one trophy, just like Champions League, which would not be given to the team unless some team wins a number of finals. Instead a replica is given to the winners, lower scale and cheaper.

Nothing is pure gold, Olympic gold medals are like 90% silver.

Really? Then they're still quite valuable.

Pure gold is 'soft', which can easily deform the shape (of the trophies, medals, etc.). That's why it's needed to be mixed in with other metals.
There's a 'team' analogy there somewhere.

Joel Anthony is Gold. Lebron, Dwade, Bosh, Mike Miller, and Haslem the supporting metals. It all fits. And if i subtract their jersey numbers from the total number of points they've scored and multiply by kobe bryants thumb, im sure theres a prophecy in there somewhere too. Its all preordained folks. We can go home now...

Did you just call the greatness that is Joel Anthony soft? Don't make me hate you Oz.

Sounds reasonable to me. John Hughes' movies in the 80s and 90s predicted the rise and fall of the Chicago Bulls. Celtic Pride predicted the outcome of the 2010 Finals.

No no no, i meant he had great value like gold. Heck, his pinky is worth more than lebrons whole body. After all, we have members here who are better players than the so called king...

Well, whoever wins, I hope they don't do this:

^^ :facepalm
Sergio Ramos is indeed the dumbest person alive. The catalan-based TV show Crackovia mocks him in every chapter.

Since all rings are custom made, I'd say the specs vary from year to year.
