Utah Jazz Dynasty

Postby The Game on Sat Apr 17, 2004 6:25 pm

Hi.. This is my new dynasty.. jazz dynasty, since its already playoff time and the jazz didnt make the playoffs i decided to sim the first season.. jazz didnt make the playoffs and that means were heading to lotteryland..
In the offseason i resigned Carlos Arroyo,Gordan Giricek,Pavlovic and Jarron Collins.. i didnt bother resigning an aging Tom Gugliotta and a slow Greg Ostertag.. I had a good amount of salary cap left so i was able to sign Mehmet Okur.. Oh and in the draft i was picking 10th overall and i selected a SG named Chuck Faulkner 6'8"187 lbs.. possibly the steal of the draft...
So basically my lineup goes like this:
Starting 5:
C - Mehmet Okur
PF - Andrei Kirilenko
SF - Matt Harpring
SG - Gordan Giricek
PG - Carlos Arroyo
Bench:
PG - Raul Lopez
SG - Chuck Faulkner
SG - Aleksander Pavlovic
SF - Raja Bell
C - Jarron Collins
PF - Vladimir Stepania(Signed Free agent)
PF - Michael Ruffin
IR:
PF - Curtis Borchardt
PG - Badru Moss(2nd Rd. Pick)

stay tuned for opening night results..

Game Recap:
Salt Lake City, Utah - Jazz and T-wolves slugged it out in a defensive game.. niether team were able to get a double digit lead with the jazz leading for most parts of the game. Andrei Kirilenko played excellent "D" on Kevin Garnett and limited KG to only 12 pts. but Cassell's 27 points proved to be enough to beat the jazz who were clearly a team that relied on their perimeter shooting and had no main man on offense. with 2 minutes left in the game and the jazz leading by 1, the t-wolves had a 10-0 run to put away the jazz for good..

rookie played like what he was... a rookie.. he struggled all night scoring only 2 points on 1 of 7 from the field.. i am still looking forward to this kid cause he is quick tall and actually plays pg as his backup position... a 6'8" point guard would really help even though he was destroyed by cassell...

need help with something.. i think i need a real low post threat considering my starting 5 are all perimeter players... im thinking of trading for someone young like eddy curry.. any suggestions as to who i would trade for?

Well if you updated AK-47 ratings then you shouldnt need one. Okur is good on the game as well. I also think you should wait before you trading because you only played 1 game. You need to wait for about 5-6 games to see how you are doing with your team then start thinking about trading. Why you didnt post the ratings over your players?

Hmm, maybe you could lose Harpring + A few for a PF, this way you shift AK to the SF + have a PF playing inside & Mehmet who can shoot the outside shot if your inside playing PF is doubled too often.

Drew Gooden, Amaré Stoudemire, Eddy Curry, Jonathan Bender, Carlos Boozer...

Maybe get Diop from Cleveland and move Mehmet to PF & leave Diop at C.

Those are my suggestions, I wouldnt go for a super star, that gets boring, fast. Get a young, developing player. Gooden & Bender are nice. (Y)

Diop is a must have for me in every dynast for his shot blocking ability. :D

yeah i agree on what you said about getting superstars, its more fun playing as the underdog and more challenging.. i'll follow sbhzmafia's advice for now but my eyes are set on Eddy Curry and Diop would make us a better defensive team... thanks for the suggestions :D

That was basically what I was going to bring up (Y).

Sounds good, the Jazz are quite a challenge, good luck :).

Game Recap
Seattle - Opening night for the seattle supersonics. Sonics start game on fire with an 8-0 blast but Jerry Sloan calmly called a timeout to talk thigs over and calm his players down. Jazz come out of the timeout rejuvenated and make their own 5- 0 run. Jazz rookie Chuck Faulkner came off the bench and scored 10 pts. in the second quarter and could have done more if it wasnt for an incident which destroyed the jazz momentum, Chuck faulkner drove to the hoop and attemted to slam it in the face of Brent Barry but barry gave a hard foul and the kid landed pretty badly, he had to leave the game with more or less 5 minutes remaining in the 2nd quarter. Marv Albert later on announced that faulkner suffered a back injury but the injury was only minor and is still playable. Sonics lead by 9 after the first half. 3rd quarter started and was pretty much the same as the past quarters with the sonics dictating the phase of the game but midway in the 3rd quarter the jazz started heating up from the perimeter led by Gordan Giricek and reduced the lead to only 1 by the end of the quarter. 4th quarter was a slugfest with both teams exchanging baskets. Chuck Faulkner returned in the game at the 8 minute mark of the 4th quarter and scored 14 points.the jazz tied the game with a basket by Gordan giricek but sonic used great ball rotation to find an open Ray Allen to hit the 3 leaving 45 seconds left on the clock. Jazz call a timeout and executed a great pick and roll and Gordan Giricek had a good look at the 3 but missed the shot. 31 seconds left in the game. Sonics did not call a timeout and Brent Barry dribbled his way half court where he was met by a double team by the jazz. Andrei Kirilenko comes up with the steal off the doble team and calls a timeout. 23 seconds left in the game. Giricek dribbles his way to drain the clock and with 9 seconds left passes the ball to kirilenko and okur gives kirilenko the screen kirilenko gets a good look but misses the 3 for the tie. Sonics celebrate their opening night victory.

i know that i said earlier that i will follow sbhzmafia's advice but after the loss to seattle, in which most of my points came from the perimeter, i decided that i cant really beat the tough western conference teams without a low post threat... so i decided to make a trade for a young big man that will hopefully give the much needed help downlow..

Jazz Trade:
ImageMatt Harpring
for:
ImageEddy Curry
of the bulls

with this trade both teams get what they need, The Jazz who need a threat in the low post, while the bulls who before the trade had Jerome Williams at the SF position, now adds a scoring threat at their weakest position..

so my new starting lineup would now be:

Image C -Eddy Curry
Image PF - Mehmet Okur
Image SF - Andrei Kirilenko
Image SG - Gordan Giricek
Image PG - Carlos Arroyo

Although this is not my final starting lineup as i plan to someday start rookie Chuck Faulkner who has proven to be very effective at the point guard position...
