Wade Calls Durant Best Player

Image Image

JANUARY 30, SEATTLE – Miami Heat SG Dwyane Wade arrived in Seattle with some nice words to say about Kevin Durant. “Right now,” Wade told reporters before boarding a team bus, “Kevin Durant is the best player in the NBA. No one else has proven anything except for him. He’s pretty much scoring whenever he feels like it out there on the basketball court and no team has been able to slow him down.”

When asked about the last two MVPs the league has produced, Wade responded, “Lebron (James) and Moses (Chara) are still great players and they are great team players but Durant is sort of out of this world right now. I reckon he could score 100 in a game if he really wanted to.”

Wade noted, “But tonight we’re going to make it tough for him to score.”

Wade is averaging just 23 points and 5 assists a game this season and pondered whether the arrival of All-Star PF Michael Beasley hampered his career on an individual basis. “Sure, Michael is a talented guy who has really taken the load off of me,” Wade stated, “I think that it’s been a blessing to have him on board. I haven’t had the individual recognition that I had earlier in my career but I would always trade that in for team success.”

Durant was told of Wade’s praise after his team’s morning film session and he said, “He’s just playing mind games. Me and D-Wade are good friends but he’s just trying to challenge me. He will be sorry for doing this.”

He laughed when someone suggested he could score 100 points in an NBA game, “I can do it but if I did you’d all be hating on me even more.”

Bogut Reflects On Season So Far

Image

JANUARY 30, SEATTLE – Australian big man Andrew Bogut is having one of the best times of his life during this magical 26 game stretch. The 2005 number 1 draft pick was candid about his feelings during a career year in which he is doing it all for Seattle.

The Stealth All-Star is establishing himself as the best big man in the game as he not only scores and rebounds the basketball but also dishes, blocks shots and is growing into a leader that his team looks up to during timeouts. Bogut caused a stir when he said that he ‘had Dwight (Howard) in his sights’ and teammate Kevin Durant supported him by stating, “I think that he (Bogut) is already at Dwight’s level.”

Bogut’s teammates have long regarded him as an underrated talent in the NBA and even this season believe that this is the case. Head Coach George Karl said, “I think you look at the numbers and while he fills up the sheet, he is still not regarded as a bona fide talent because the rebound and point totals are as high as some would like. I think that’s not fair given the talent we have on our team.”

“Isn’t it more impressive that Andrew can distinguish himself amongst all of this talent?” Karl asks rhetorically.

Captain Jason Kidd adds another voice of support, “I’ve seen a lot of quality big men and I can safely say that Andrew is one of the best. He is certainly the best I’ve played with during my career.” When asked to compare him to the great bigs of the past 20 years, Kidd states, “I’ve played against guys like Hakeem Olajuwan, Patrick Ewing, Shaquille O’Neal, Tim (Duncan), Kevin (Garnett), Jay (Gray) and Dwight (Howard). Yeah, he stacks up (against them).” Kidd describes Bogut as a stronger, smarter and more skilled version of former great passing big men like Vlade Divac and Brad Miller.

Bogut is savouring every point, rebound, assist, steal and block he gets this season. “I’ve never felt this good during my career,” he stated, “And I’ve never felt this valued by a team. I’m having an awesome time with the Stealth.”

It's really good to see that you're back.

Bogut is definitely underrated. He's a key-player on your team, but since the scoring mostly comes from KD and Tyson, he does not get recognized enough. But you know what's a problem? Luc Longley still got more hardware on his fingers ... Bogut really has to win now to get to three rings :)

Wade has lost a step or two if you ask me. He's been living from his athleticism, but since we are in 2013, he's already thirty +. It's Beases team now.

Beasley isn't performing too well either. Looks like the shallower bench really does hurt them. :(

It's because you ranked him too high in your off-season positional rankings :P

Haha, maybe both he and Wade can't handle the pressure of BDL rankings.

Mavs’ Lai Unsettled In Dallas

Image

JANUARY 30, DALLAS – Dallas Mavericks second year player Leo Lai is reportedly unsettled in Dallas and is said to be looking for a move off the team. With the signing of veteran guard Andrew Watson in the offseason, Lai saw any hope of a starting spot disappear and this season has not played up to scratch for the team.

Dallas are in a mediocre position after many expected them to contend for their Division’s title and although have high hopes for developing Lai; the team may decide to pull a trigger for a trade if it brings in someone who can contribute right away. Dirk Nowitzki recently said some encouraging words about the young swingman, “Leo is a good athletic player. With some more practise, he could grow into a solid NBA player.”

Lai has recently sat out with an ankle injury and did not partake in his team’s practice yesterday. Rumour has it that Western Conference teams Golden State, Houston and Minnesota are interested in him.

Stealth Cruise To Win Number Twenty-Seven
Miami Heat at Seattle Stealth: 102-133
Preview | Boxscore | Recap | Highlights

Image

January 30, SEATTLE (AP) – The winning streak continues as the Miami Heat put up a futile effort against the hottest team in the league for years. On their home floor, the Seattle Stealth did not look threatened at all from the start of the game. By halftime, the Stealth led by 22 points and by the end of the third quarter that lead expanded to 36 points.

Kevin Durant led the home team with 28 points and saw four of his teammates also net double figure point totals by the end of the night. Durant didn’t play much after halftime and left for the team’s locker room early in the final quarter. “The game was over,” he said afterwards, “There was no point in me staying out there.”

Durant’s early exit from courtside generated some controversy in an otherwise boring match between the Heat and Stealth. Heat All-Star SG Dwayne Wade, who had called Durant the best player in the league, complained after the game, “That’s just disrespectful to walk off like that. You don’t see me doing that.” When told of Wade’s comments, Durant brushed it off and laughed, “D-Wade just wishes he had the same concessions as me. When you can help your team get a 40 point lead, I think you are entitled to do whatever you like.”

Wade finished the game with 24 points and 7 assists. He had four teammates who scored in double figures also but the Heat shot very poorly from the field and could not keep up with the Stealth’s frantic offensive pace. Michael Beasley (15 points on 6-15 shooting), Marcus Williams (12 points on 4-13 shooting) and JR Smith (11 points on 4-14 shooting) did not do any favours to their side’s woeful shooting performance.

Notes: Durant claimed that he left the team bench to ice his knees down in preparation for tonight’s game against the New Jersey Nets… Nets SF Carmelo Anthony was in attendance and accompanied by four bodyguards. He left at halftime. He was booed when he was shown on the jumbotron… Jason Kidd finished with a near triple double (9 points, 7 rebounds, 8 assists) but told Coach George Karl not to worry about playing him in the second half… Andrew Bogut had the most assists in the game with 10…

Nets Start Strong, Stealth Finish Stronger
New Jersey Nets at Seattle Stealth: 84-103
Preview | Boxscore | Recap | Highlights

Image

January 31, SEATTLE (AP) – Kevin Durant can thank Reshawn Tyson for keeping the game close in the second quarter when the Nets looked like they were on par to build a strong lead. The Stealth can thank Durant for bringing it home and keying a devastating second half team performance that blew the Nets out of the water. The home team got to consecutive win number twenty-eight.

Tyson scored 17 second quarter points and spent time at point guard to slow down Nets All-Star Barney Steele. The bold move from Head Coach George Karl reminded fans of Tyson’s capability on the defensive end and brought back memories of him guarding New Orleans Hornet Chris Paul in a playoff series during his rookie year.

The Nets were basket for basket in the first quarter against the Stealth before starting the second period on a 16-4 run. Tyson’s move to point guard saw him strip Steele of the ball twice and scoring on the fast break each time. He finished the quarter on fire by finishing with back to back three point plays. “Reshawn was just on another level tonight,” Chris Bosh stated, “He can ball.”

Durant, interestingly, objected to Bosh’s statement, “He doesn’t know what he’s talking about. Someone who is his size and can only score 5 points and grab 2 rebounds doesn’t deserve to have an opinion about the game of basketball.”

Seattle did not take their first lead of the night until late in the third period. Durant was scoreless at halftime but came out and scored all 20 of his points in the second half. He was at his best as he chased down rebound after rebound and remained active on both ends of the floor. “I did not score as much as I should have but I could have scored 50 if I wanted to,” Durant claimed after the game.

Durant then keyed a game winning 18-2 run in the fourth quarter in which he scored 10 points. Durant had back to back three point shots that seemed to have broken the spirit of the visiting Nets side. Karl unloaded his bench for the final half of the fourth quarter and they did not disappoint being led by Adam Morrison’s 9 points.

After the match, Durant stayed on the court for half an hour in protest of the criticism he received the night before for leaving early. “I was told that people weren’t happy that I left when my team was up by 40 points so I decided to stay here longer than anyone else,” he said, “Plus I wanted to just get all of your attention so that I can say that I thought the Nets were the best team in their conference. Problem is that they sucked.”

Notes: Mingyu Li chased down a corner three point attempt and blocked it at the full time buzzer. That was the kind of play that epitomised how much the Stealth wanted to win this game as well as send a statement to the rest of the league. Li finished with 6 points and 2 blocks… Corey Maggette was happy to get some burn as he scored back to back three pointers and a layup in the first quarter. He did not score again for the Nets… Anthony and Steele did not say much after combining to shoot 13 for 36 from the field…
