During the course of his interview with Thomas, the topic of Michael Jordan, Larry Bird and Magic Johnson comes up and how Thomas is looked at compared to those legends. After that, the former Knicks executive and coach goes off.

“I have no problem saying this at all,” Thomas said to Reiter. “They're all 6-(feet)-9 and Jordan was 6-6 and a half. If they were all 6-1, it wouldn't even be a question. They wouldn't even f---ing rate. If they were all my size, s---, they wouldn't even be talked about.

I think the time when height really mattered in case of dominating was over in after George Mikan retired. Wilt was big, but it from what I read he was also quick and just a beast. Mikan though was really only big, dominating the post. He did not even have good FG% I read yesterday (the article said that even Allen Iverson would feel bad with his FG%)

I doubt Isaiah had the handling and quickness when he was like 6-6. You always adept your game to your size, that's why Centers don't dribble and guard rarely block shots (exceptions always available)

It really does seem to be a combination of ego, bitterness, sour grapes and a healthy dose of insecurity. It's a shame because he did have a great playing career, lauded for his impact on games despite being one of the smallest on the court and the story of him going ballistic on the Lakers in the Finals on a sprained ankle, coming up short but returning next year to sweep Magic and co is well told. There's a point where confidence and pride in one's abilities and accomplishments strays into delusion and I'd say Isiah's crossed that line here.

LeBron is a fucking beast, but he's not that talented. Heck, I would suggest I'm as talented as LeBron if not more; the only reason I'm not in the NBA is that I'm 6'1" and all of 160 lbs.

As for me, I can dribble passably, know where the hoop is, know how to use a screen, and shoot 90% from the free throw line. The latter two are not things LeBron is familiar with. I'm absolutely nothing special, but if I had LeBron's body I'd have no trouble.

Clearly it's a completely ridiculous comparison. The point I'm making is that he lacks some pretty basic skills that aren't that hard to pick up (particularly such things as using a screen properly).

It actually reminds me a little of those interviews with old streetballers you'd sometimes see in SLAM where they'd proclaim "If I had a jumpshot, no one would be talking about Michael Jordan" or talk about how they destroyed an NBA legend in a pick-up game once. I'm all for letting someone have their moment, throwing out a what-if scenario and being proud of their accomplishments, but when it becomes a case of sour grapes it's time to let it go.

If you didn't make it because you're 5'4", that's your genes and that sucks. If you didn't make it because you couldn't shoot the ball, what right do you have to complain?
