Image 2010/11 3rd TRIMESTER UPDATE (PART ONE)

After a sensational 11 game win streak last trimester, the Minnesota Timberwolves reverted to lottery status as tried to improve their odds in this year's strong NBA Draft, as they lost their final 19 games to end the season with a dismal (pro-rata) 23-59 (0.280). It may be pathetic but it's still 8 more wins than last season, so if you want to look at the silver lining in any situation, then yes, there was some improvement from last season.

Performance-wise, power forward Kevin Love was the shining light, as shown by his 40 point effort in Phoenix. He was unfortunately still quite inconsistent in his play, which must have irked Kurt Rambis, who is clearly in the firing line at the moment. Stephon Marbury's constant whinging cost him a spot in the rotation as he was sent to the Injury Reserve. It's safe to say his career in Minnesota, along with his cousin's Sebastian, is well and truly over.

Where to now for the Timberwolves? Firstly, is Ricky Rubio coming over this season, next season, never, or will Kahn wait for the best offer and grant his wishes by sending him packing to the East Coast. Secondly, they have to use their strong draft position to cash in on a potential star player. What they do in the draft will probably determine the direction they are heading as a team for the rest of the off-season. Finally, they need to work out who their core group is going to be moving forward. Love seems like a keeper, as does rookie Wesley Johnson. Outside of that, Darko & Pekovic's contracts make them unmovable. Everybody else is up in the air.

After posting that, looking at my team roster, team performance during the season, is this the worst NLSC Association/Dynasty season of All-Time?

I know the Bobcats' expansion team in first season was shitty (guys like Matt Carroll, Bernard Robinson, Primo Brezec and Brevin Knight started next to Emeka Okafor) but at least we were more quality. Lamrock, comparative opinions please :P

I wish somebody else had created it, then it might've been posted 2 weeks ago :P

As for template, not sure. I assume so but can't say I haven't subconsciously used others as inspiration, or maybe they just copied me first. The actual trimester update idea, I think I was first to do that back with Live '05 Bobcats one. This one is similar, just a couple more pics. I don't think anybody is silly enough to copy my ones, they're far too basic & unimpressive :P

I wanted to do Trimesters to speed things up. My inspiration was firstly Marc Stein's MVP of the Trimester articles. I looked through your Bobcats and remembered that you did Trimester Updates. That's why I asked you if you were ok with me using your Trimester Update idea. That's I credit to you as the original source on NLSC. (Y)

Image 2010/11 3rd TRIMESTER UPDATE (PART TWO)

HEAT WHITE HOT AS THEY TIE UP LEAGUE BEST RECORD

First trimester: 17-11 (0.600)
Second trimester: 20-9 (0.690)
Third trimester: 22-3 (0.880)
--------------------------------------
Overall record: 59-23 (0.724)

The championship favourite Miami Heat have gone from strength to strength this season as keep getting better with each passing game. Led by their three superstars, MVP favourite Lebron James (29.8ppg, 8.1rpg, 5.8apg, 2.3spg, 1.7bpg), Dwayne Wade (25.1ppg, 4.3rpg, 4.9apg, 2.3spg, 1.2bpg) and Chris Bosh (21.0ppg, 9.9rpg, 1.1bpg), it's little wonder that they are the most feared team in the league, especially with the Los Angeles Lakers (57-25) now being sans Pau Gasol. The Heat have also being getting strong despite lacklustre bench play and a key season ending patella injury to Udonis Haslem earlier in the season.

The real question about how good this Heat team really will be determined when they have to beat teams like Boston (54-28), Chicago (48-34) and Orlando (48-34) in a series.

Rotation: Z.Igauskas/C.Bosh/L.James/M.Miller/D.Wade/C.Arroyo(6th) [U.Haslem - out for season]

Image
It might look like a three-headed monster to most, but this Heat team starts and ends on Lebron’s broad shoulders.

Charlotte with 51 wins, wow.

IMO, I think your Bobcats squad was worst than this one. At least players like Love, Beasley, Flynn, Johnson have a nice future ahead. Bernard Robinson, Carroll? No, thank you.

He went on a tear late in season. The thing about this first year of Association, 2/3 of it was done pre-patch so sim scoring stats were inflated. I expect that to be down in year 2 :P

An early season trade of Lowry & Battier to David Lee turned this team from also ran to elite West team. I also sent them a solid backup PG in Luke Ridnour. You have to remember that Yao is 100% healthy (even though I dropped his durability rating to 25 :P ), & the West is going through a transitional year, even with Lakers not having Pau due to injury.

As for Bobcats, yeah, Larry Brown has been leading them well. Gerald Wallace & Stephen Jackson have both had All-Star/career years. I think they'll get bounced in first round of playoffs by New York :P

Obviously I know Bobcats were less talented squad, but I was more referring to disappointment/performance wise. I achieved alright with a really crappy Bobcats team, but couldn't do anything with a more talented Wolves team. I also didn't have any players score more than 13.6ppg. Don't think I've seen another Association/Dynasty like that

Re: X's T'wolves Association (NBA 2K11): PLAYER AWARDS

Postby The X on Sun Feb 20, 2011 10:05 am

Image 2010/11 SEASON AWARDS

MOST VALUABLE PLAYER

SF- Lebron James, Miami
Season Stats: 29.8ppg, 8.1rpg, 5.8apg, 2.3spg, 1.7bpg

What more can you say about King James? Third consecutive MVP, joined a new team and led them to the best record in the NBA. He had some stiff competition from Lakers' guard Kobe Bryant and Thunder forward Kevin Durant, but in the end, you can't argue that hard against this one.

DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE YEAR

PF- Josh Smith, Atlanta
Season Stats: 13.7ppg, 8.9rpg, 4.0apg, 2.2spg, 2.2bpg

The do everything Hawks' forward Josh Smith was one of the few bright spots for a disappointing season in Atlanta. J-Smoove (bad nickname anybody?) took advantage of a relatively weak year for elite defenders, with the usual winner Dwight Howard (Orlando) having a down year on the defensive end for his standards.

ROOKIE OF THE YEAR

PG- John Wall, Washington
Season Stats: 15.4ppg, 6.2apg, 1.6spg

There was a renaissance in the nation's capital and a certain rookie point guard was a huge part of it. On the back of a strong comeback year from teammate Gilbert Arenas, both Wall and Agent Zero made the All-Star teams. It was a huge surprise to see Wall selected at the time. Not that he didn't have All-Star ability, but it was an up and down season shooting the ball. The pick might have been more a reflection of the lack of backcourt talent in the Eastern Conference. Either way, Wall and Arenas are having the last laugh, as they will battle the Heat in the first round of the playoffs.

SIXTH MAN OF THE YEAR

PF- Luis Scola, Houston
Season Stats: 10.6ppg, 6.5rpg

This award says a huge amount about the ability and personality of Luis Scola. When the Rockets traded for one-time All-Star forward David Lee and immediately slotted him into the starting lineup, one could've forgiven Scola for being a bit miffed. Instead he put his own playing ambitions aside and put the team first, paving the way for the Rockets to have the equal best record in the Western Conference. This award reflects as much for Scola's sacrifice as his strong play.

MOST IMPROVED PLAYER OF THE YEAR

SF- Terrence Williams, New Jersey
Season Stats: 13.3ppg, 7.0rpg, 1.7spg

Although Williams improved statistically from his rookie season to his sophomore season, he still failed to shoot over 40% from the floor (38.5% FG) and it was largely a reflection of his increased minutes rather than efficiency. I am not a fan of this award, but if it must be given then I could find a few better candidates: forward Tyrus Thomas (Charlotte) who finally put it all together and was dominant at times on the defensive ends for the Bobcats or guard Monta Ellis (Golden State) who took his game to another level and won the league's scoring title.

COACH OF THE YEAR

Erik Spoelstra, Miami
Season Record: 59-23

Spoelstra was able to get the Heat through some early season struggles and a season ending injury to Udonis Haslem, and have them finish with the league's best record and home court advantage through the playoffs. Having the ability to juggle huge egos and three stars who are all use to dominating the ball (James, Wade and Bosh) can not be understated.

Nice short recaps of the awards. Congrats on Wes Johnson making the rookie 1st team.

Good updates. Can't wait for a brief playoff recap before we move onto the most exciting part of The X stories :)

As always, I'm loving the pro-rata stuff. At one point considered doing an association where I pro-rated the game scores as well, playing 29 games with 5 minute quarters. Couldn't live with all the blowouts though.

Your roster is certainly better than those Bobcats (at least on paper). You underachieved with Love and overachieved with 'Meka though.

That's not a bad idea. Would allow me to get through games. Only problem is scores, don't know if I could handle it. Might have to consider it in future, thanks for the idea :P
