The Westpac Halberg awards recognise New Zealand's top sporting achievements.

The Awards help the Halberg Trust to raise funds, which are then used to provide opportunities for young people with disabilities to be active in sport or active leisure pursuits of their choice.

During his talkback show last Friday, Laws said it was "crazy" that disabled sports people were able to compete for the Halberg Awards saying "If you have had your legs chopped off, you shouldn't be in there at all".

Laws also said that disability sports were "ludicrous".

International Paralympic Committee president Sir Philip Craven told TV ONE's Close Up that he did not take the comments personally.

"I really feel sorry for this guy," the former paralympian said. "But from what I've heard about him, I think he's a lost cause

Basically. Was wanting to know if these awards meant something or if he was just being a prick to be a prick. From my searching apparently he's just a prick. Im more pissed at his company standing by his statements.

Coincidentally, we have a John Laws here in Australia who had a habit of making controversial comments during his talkback radio career.
