There would've been one but not anymore since people voted against it :P

You'll get to see real pictures during pre-draft coverage I'd say

I was just being an idiot :) We don't need pics. Only for draft but not even required if it's too much trouble ;)

I'll start posting first round results tomorrow night (if time permits of course).

Voting is now closed for round 1 as my beautiful wife (referred to from here as 'X's wife') has put in her picks (she actually picked the whole first round when I told her to only pick the four feature games, I guess she just loves bracket pick 'ems  ). The little secret I didn't let the five guys who've entered (Axel., Sit, dare, houndy, Lamrock, Agent420 & Thierry) is that all you have to do to win is finish better than her. Easier said than done, she has an uncanny ability of winning the brackets year in & year out (I've finished 2nd, 2nd & 3rd last few times, she's finished 1st every year). Probably have a bonus for top overall winner if this person wins & finishes higher than 'X's wife'.

Without further ado, the first round picks for 'X's wife' for the four feature games are as follows:

George Mason
Nebraska
Georgetown
Washington

She does not know any results, her picks are free from any bias or insider knowledge. She has already made her picks for all second round games even though I haven't picked the feature games yet.

As always, enjoy :chug:

And to show I'm fair, the extra effort for round 1 that you & Axel. put in may not be to no avail. If you can beat the first round of 'X's wife', you get a bonus 5 rating/attribute/tendency points to use, regardless of where you end up. Same for Axel. if he happens to gain a place in the draft.

I haven't actually looked through each of your full lists so I don't know how you've gone.

No love from X's Wife for her buddy Wilt. (N)

Also, not looking forward to losing again to X's Wife in a pick-em. I think I won two years ago but she smashed me out of the ball park last year and three years ago (if we did it three years ago???)

Two years ago you got 2nd (I must've got 4th that year, that was a bad year, UNC won, hardly any upsets), X's wife also picked the Tarheels to win it all & beat you narrowly. You had more games predicted correctly, but since she picked more upsets from lower seeds, she picked up more points overall :P I think we skipped it 3 years ago as I was in Europe on my honeymoon. I started 4 years ago.

Btw, she ummed & ahhed for a few seconds on Witt's game & said it was a tough one to pick.

Ah well, I will give it to her. You can't pick based on a video game simulation with no real life basis either! :P

But I do think G-Town are favorites judging from how good they would have been in 2K8. They were good right?

My wife's picks in real life aren't based on real life stats/performance either, just gut instinct & a lot of luck, which pains me when she beats me every year

G-Town were good back in 2k8 but I edited their top 3 or 4 players down to move them from an 87 rated team to an 82 rated team, which is middle of the pack for Big East, which IRL is generally the strongest conference in the nation, usually getting at least 8 bids, sometimes more. Can't remember what Saint Mary's rating is after adding you, something like 78, so it should be a good matchup. You are right though that G-Town has to go in favourites.

mandich wrote:Will you post the UNC line-up later if you find time ? I am really curious :D

It's not a real life one. They are led by the core of freshman PF Lloyd Murphy (projected mid-1st Round pick) and veteran guards Bernard York and Ken Davidson (both bubble 1st rounders, likely to go somewhere in 2nd Round). Aside from those 3, the team is very deep & the only teams in the tournament that are comparable talent-wise are UCLA & to a lesser extent Vanderbilt. If Kansas somehow gets to the Elite Eight & matches up with them, then I think they are one of the few that are capable of beating UNC.

Image 2011 MARCH MADNESS – NCAA TOURNAMENT

17 March 2011

EAST REGION

MOMENT OF MAGIC, PITTSBURGH SURVIVE NITTANY LIONS ON BUZZER BEATER

Senior point guard Hubert Mathis (11 points, 5 assists, 4 steals) hit an 18 foot jumper that swished through the net as time expired, helping (6)Pittsburgh avoid an opening round upset against (11)Penn State, winning 65-64.

Pittsburgh used balanced scoring, with no player scoring more than 11 points, as they threw multiple bodies at Nittany Lions' junior centre Gus Knight (10 points, 8 rebounds, 4 blocks).

OTHER RESULTS

(1)North Carolina 82 (L.Murphy 17pts, 2blks, 2stls; K.Davidson 16pts, 4asts, 2stls; B.York 8pts, 4asts, 2stls)
(16)Arkansas-Little Rock 66

(8)Butler 57
(9)Cincinnati 46

(3)Kansas 88
(14)Wofford 69

WEST REGION

MO BOSH MONEY FOR NEBRASKA AS THEY DOWN STANFORD

Senior point guard Mo Bosh (23 points, 4/6 3Pt, 5 assists) did everything you would expect from a veteran team leader as he willed his (11)Nebraska teammates to another upset victory, this time a 68-60 win over (6)Stanford.

Nebraska was out to prove it deserved its at-large bid and Bosh got strong support from senior centre Aleks Pattrick (18 points, 10 rebounds). Sophomore big man Erick McCarthy had 19 points and 7 rebounds for the Cardinals in the losing effort.

OTHER RESULTS

(1)UCLA 95 (P.Buchanan 24, 7asts)
(16)Sam Houston State 67

(8)Kentucky 68
(9)North Carolina State 59

(3)Memphis 64 (R.Harper 5pts, 7rebs, 6blks)
(14)Austin Peay 58

SOUTH REGION

SPARTANS GRIND OUT WIN AGAINST MIAMI (OHIO)

(4)Michigan State probably weren't expecting a tough first round matchup. Instead they got in a dogfight with (13)Miami (OH), before prevailing 57-49. Senior guard Fred Krywonis (14 points, 5 rebounds, 8 assists) was the best on court for the Spartans. Junior point guard Marvin Hale (11 points, 5 rebounds, 5 assists, 2 steals) did everything he could to keep the Redhawks in the game but him and his teammates just did not have enough firepower to compete with the big boys of the Big Ten.

An upset might have been on the cards however if MAC Defensive Player of the Year Benjamin Dragic had stayed in the game. Dragic (0 points, 0/8 FG, 0/2 FT, 4 rebounds, 1 block, 2 turnovers) had no real impact on the game, fouling out in only 22 minutes.

HOYAS HOLD OFF HUNGRY GAELS

Senior guard Pooh Mallory had one final chance to tie the game and send it into overtime, but his three point attempt was long and back rimmed as the buzzer sounded. (10)Saint Mary's had their chances, but couldn't get by (7)Georgetown, losing a low scoring affair 55-52.

Sophomore point guard William Witt (4 points, 4 assists, 4 steals, 3 turnovers) looked visibly disappointed on the last possession of the game when the pass wasn't delivered as he came peeling off a high screen, open for the final shot. Witt struggled to get any rhythm going as he was trailed, denied and hounded all game long by Big East Defensive Player of the Year, senior point guard Kenny Lane (11 points, 4 assists, 2 steals).

Gaels' sophomore centre Mel Pjevcevic (19 points, 5 rebounds) battled hard against the bigger and stronger Hoyas, but him and his teammates fell two possessions shy of advancing to the round of thirty two.

OTHER RESULTS

(5)San Diego State 101
(12)UTEP 62

(2)Baylor 82 (R.Strickland 23pts, 5rebs)
(15)Hampton 52

MIDWEST REGION

CLEVELAND STATE WINS THE GAME ONLY TO HAVE IT TAKEN AWAY

(12)Cleveland State once again looked like they were going to be this season's Cinderella story. Unfortunately, they will likely end up being a footnote in NCAA lore and sports trivia.

With 0.5 seconds on the clock, trailing 64-65 to the heavily favoured (5)Ohio State Buckeyes, sophomore guard Rodrigo McKee (13 points, 6/9 FG, 2 steals) found himself open. With a perfect pass was delivered, Rodrigo caught and launched a rainbow that seemed to stay in the air for an eternity. McKee's shot hit nothing but nylon as the Vikings went berserk and mobbed Cleveland State's newest star as his opponents slumped to the court in utter disbelief.

The referees conducted the mandatory review to ensure he released the shot in regulation. After 2 minutes of deliberation, the head official waved off the basket. What looked good in real time was not as good in slow motion. McKee still had the ball on his finger tips as the shot clock light went off, signalling the end of the game. Heartbreak for (12)Cleveland State, going down 64-65 to (5)Ohio State, who live to fight another day.

DUKE NEEDS TWO OVERTIME PERIODS TO BEAT VERMONT

(4)Duke used 19 points from sophomore shooting guard Lincoln Gogerty as the Blue Devils outlasted upstart (13)Vermont 90-84 in a thrilling double overtime classic.

Senior shooting guard Deno Whitney (17 points, 3/4 3Pt) was the star for the Catamounts, hitting two free throws at the end of regulation to put the game into overtime and a 25 footer to send the game into a second overtime. Whitney ran out of puff in the second and final overtime period, but not before making a few new fans along the way.

OTHER RESULTS

(7)Kansas State 64 (R.Schultz 5pts, 5rebs, 4blks, 2stls)
(10)Notre Dame 68

(2)Maryland 82 (F.Bradley 14pts - injured [will miss at least the next game])
(15)American 68

Awesome read! Despite losing the Hoyas, i do admit we were always long shots against them so it is not unexpected! However, Witt played bad - reminding me of recent real life events. Ben also had a Ben game too! Can't wait for more!

Cheers, took a while. Will be glad when round 1 is out of way as every subsequent round is shorter :P

So you don't love the WCC Conference Tournament Player of the Year and All-WCC 1st Team member? Mr Witt was also an honorable mention All-American. Unfortunately he couldn't crack the top couple of teams (N)

Yep, Saint Mary's or another WCC school was the obvious destination. When was the last time a UNC, Maryland or Nova recruit a 5'8" PG from Australia?

I know you would've preferred St Peter's due to Keydren Clark, but it was easier storyline wise for you to go to the Gaels. I don't know of St Peter's recruiting Aussie players.

Mr Moore & my alter ego ended up at Wisconsin due to the coach & school's ties to New Zealand (& Kirk Penney). Bennett coached in NZ for a little bit before going to Wisconsin. I obviously would've preferred a different school & Marcel would've preferred Arizona, but thems are the breaks.

I took a venture out down the road. Flood waters still going to be rising for at least next few hours. Brisbane won't hit peak until tomorrow.

I should get an Association update up later today, provided power doesn't go out (big if since a lot of surrounding areas don't have power).
