../Boston Fantasy Draft 2003-2004\..

Postby Mark. on Sun Mar 28, 2004 8:24 pm

Right this is my "explaining post" so it won't be in context.

I've decided to do a fantasy draft with a (is this ment to be an "a" or an "an" since "eighty" starts with an "e" but im writing it as a numeral? " 82 game season.

To select my team i hit randomise on the draft order and the team at the top of the order was to be mine.

I then went and ordered the teams for the draft by reverse order of conference placing in the real NBA today. So for example Orlando has first pick since they have to worst record so far, then the team with the worst record in the West goes next which is Phoenix then Chicago because they have the second worst record in the East.

So i ended up with the 15th pick

Im Playing on Superstar
12 min quarters
Andrews Rosters
Tweaked Sliders, the ones i used for my Phoenix Dynasty

Anyway ill post the results of the draft tomorrow, i hope you all enjoy this dynasty, posts will be similar to my Phoenix ones.

Boston -

Today the Celtics announced they had signed a new GM due to the re draft of all NBA players. Match_66 will be taking over the GM duties.

He is optimistic about the future for the Celtics.

"I realise it may not look like we will among the leaders in the league with only having the 15th pick in the draft, but ive got a few ideas up my sleeve and know where to look for the young talent"

September 26th 2003

NBA Redraft:

Boston Press -"Match_66 its nearing the start of the draft, will you give us any idea of who your looking for?"

Match_66 -"Sorry you'll just have to wait, but i can tell you im looking for a strong shooter in the first round"

Press -"Alright good luck then we'll see you at the end"

Recap of the draft by - Guy Barlow of the Boston Press

I was lucky enough to be in the main office of the Boston Celtics during the Draft enabling me to view new GM Match_66 in action.

As the draft started the Superstars were getting picked up quickly, the first 14 players drafted went like so

    T-Mac to the Magic
    KG to Phoenix
    Tim Duncan to the Bulls
    Kobe to the Clippers
    Baron Davis to Washington
    Shaq to the Warriors
    Kidd to the Hawks
    Matrix to Seatle
    Paul Pierce to Toronto
    VC to Portland
    Steve Francis to Philli
    AI to Denver
    C-Webb to Cleveland
    Bron to Utah

Then it was Bostons turn, i looked over to the main desk and saw Match_66 in deep thought, he looked up and bekoned his advisor over and whispered something in his ear, the assitant then goes to the phone and speaks into it, a moment later it is announced that the Celtics had Drafted Dirk Nowitski!!

The remainder of the draft held little supprise with the players that were expected getting picked early and so on.

For the second pick Boston took Andre Miller, a wise choice i thought to myself.

When the 3rd pick came around a heated argument arose and all media were asked to leave the office, grudgingly i left.

So watching from the outside i still managed to keep up with the Celtics remianing picks:

    3rd Eddie Jones
    4th Eddy Curry
    5th Tayshun Prince
    6th Chris Andersen
    7th Walter Mccarty
    8th Tyronne Lue
    9th Raja Bell
    10th Ron Mercer
    11th Marcus Haislip
    12th Hedo Turkoglu

Boston Press -

Immediately after the re Draft it was announced that the Boston Celtics had swung a trade with the Denver Nuggets. The trade sent SG Eddie Jones and PF Chris Andersen to Denver in exchange for G Dwyane Wade.
When asked about the trade GM Match_66 replied -

"We actually had an arguement over the picking of Eddie Jones due to his contract size, but i saw it as too big a risk to not pick him, we needed a strong SG, and i had had my eye on Wade but he was already picked, so we went with Jones. It was just luck that the Nuggets were interested in Jones and had the cap space to sign him so we ended up with what we wanted"

The Celtics also signed free agents Jahdi White and Kendrick Perkins, White was placed on the IR list while Perkins will be coming off the bench for Eddy Curry.

The game started out with neither team playing anything special, still adjusting to playing with each other. At the start of the 3rd quarter Miami made a run, bout their flame was qucikly doused by some solid Celtic defense followed by some killer offense, still the Heat managed to notch up 31 3rd quarter points, to close the quarter down 68-86. Wade was inching closer to a triple double with 14 points 8 rebounds and 9 assists.

The fourth was a blow out with the Celtics scoring 41 points on 78% shooting while the Heat could only manage 22 points, there wasnt much to say about this game except the Celtic starters came out with 5 to go to give the bench some quality time.

Match Report by Shooter Mc Craken

This game looked to be a test for the Celtics, playing agaisnt a team that was all about the fast break.

That was what the gmae was about, the fast break. Memphis was unstopable, every rebound was outletted in anticipation for the break. The Celtics were shocked, finding them up against a team that was far more efficent and prepared than them. At the end of the first the score was 34-27, Dirk couldn't hit a thing shooting 3/8.

The Celtics settled the game down in the 2nd and managed to pull the lead back to 58-52 by the time the buzzer sounded, the strong quarter was punctuated by a buzzer beater 3 from Dirk.

In the 3rd the Celtics hopes were smashed the Grizz blowing out to a 88-78 lead.(All i had in my game notes was Bull Shit!! and F**ked Up!!)

The fourth saw the Celtics pull it back to 106-102 with 3 mins left but the Grizz were too good pulling out the win.

Final Score 117-105 Grizz Win

Interview with Boston GM Match_66

Press -"Tonight a hard loss, you must be dissapointed after the great game the other night"

M66 -"Yeah we couldn't stop the Grizz tonight, but they were a incredible team, gelling better than we have, i expect to see them do well this season"

Press -"Any predictions for the season?"

M66 -"Well i think if we play to our potential, we could win 60 games"

Press -"60 games!!, thats a big call"

M66 -"Yeah but im fully confident with our team, i dont see too many weaknesses, as long as we work together and dont dwell on the bad games, liek tonight"

Press -"Thanks a lot Match, hope you are right"

Interesting choice to play Wade at two-guard and Miller at the point, though I suppose they're pretty much interchangeable.

Nice recaps. (Y)

Ok i need some suggestions, it may be early in the season, but im feeling that my team lacks a little in the middle with D, like i need some better defensive big men.

Any ideas?? I'm not looking for anyone special, just some D specialist to come off the bench when needed.

I dont mind trading any of my bench really, except maybe Walter.

Suggestions.......

You might want to give it a shot. I know the Nuggets have been playing him at the two with Boykins in the lineup, so a backcourt of Wade playing the point with Dre at two guard would probably be just as effective. But you should go with whatever works best. The advantage of having those guys is that they are capable of playing both guard spots, so they can share the duties of the point guard and shooting guard. But try Miller at the two if you get the chance, you might find he's more effective there.

Yeah i have been playing Miller at the two lately, not that much, but when Wade needs a rest i bring Lue in at the point and move Miller to the two.

I dont find him as gooda t the two though, since he isnt as proficent a scorer, to tell the truth, i'm finding it quite hard to scre with Miller, he is very hard to penetrate with and doesnt have that good a jumper, so he is only averaging like 11ppg.

Right a game!!

Hornets
F:Kendrick Brown
F:Lamar Odom
C:Vlade Divac
G:Derek Anderson
G:Gary Payton

Key Match-up - Dirk on Odom, both versitile fowards capable of playing both the fowards, and leaders of their teams.

Match Report by Shooter Mc Craken

The game was pretty evenly matched on paper, and it also saw Dwyane Wade play agaisnt Lamar Odom, who he would have suited up with had the Re-Draft not happened.

The game started out evenly with each team exchanging shots, but at the end of the quarter the Hornets made a late 8-0 run to put them up 27-21.

The second saw the Celtics take the lead again behind some strong play from Walter McCarty and Tayshun Prince, but once again the Hornets executed some critical fast break points to close out the quarter with the lead. 53-48 Hornets Favour

The third saw some explosive brilliance form rookie Dwayne Wade, who scored 15 of his 33 points during a Celtics 18-4 run. The Celtics scored 36 points in this quarter to the Hornets 19 points. At the edn of the quarter the Celtics were in front 84-72.

The strong play from the Celtics and especially Dwyane Wade continued during the fourth. Wade went on to score another 10 points during this quarter to close out his 33 point performance. The Hornets never really made an effort in the fourth, with Derek Anderson, Lamar Odom and Gary Payton all in foul trouble. The game will be remembered as a bit of an overkill as the Celtics decided to keep thier starters out during the last 3 minutes.

End Score 112-93 Celtics Win

It might be best to leave Dre at the point then. Just a suggestion, as the real Miller can be pretty effective at shooting guard.

Camby would be a good choice off the bench, or in the starting five if Curry is slumping. (Y)

Great game aginst the Celtics, this, is one sweet dynasty too I might add.
I personally, like things that are different, and this I like because, it's not just the same old dynasty. But great games so far, especailly the Hornets.
Dirk really seems to be playing well, and Wade whoa  , all 3 games have been greatly recaped. The team sound like, it may need some more playing time together to mix it up, but at the moment, are looking in fine form. Take it all the way I say. Great Work, keep it going match. (Y)

P.S. Any more trades, anyone not fitting in to your style of play like Curry, or are you going to wait until February??

Yeah im researching my options at the Moment to aquire Marcus Camby, but there isnt much to work with, i would most likely have to give up one fo my starters and i dont like the sound of that too much.

There is the possibility of Curry, i guess this could just be personal choice since i played a lot with him in my Phoenix Dynasty, but im not sure i want to lose him.

Ill have another look around, for some other options and see what is avaliable.

BTW i jsut thought that if anyone wanted i could send them my Phoenix Franchise save file, if they wanted to bring it back too life :D Just an idea, i doubt anyone would want to :P .

Another Recap coming later on.

The Celtics came into this game expecting it too be a fast hig-flying game. The Nets didnt dissapoint, taking advantage of weak Boston rebounding to get out on the break.

The first quarter saw the best basketball of the game from Boston, coming out at the end of the first 6minutes up 14-4, the Nets managed to rally back to finish the quarter down 26-14. Dirk had 10 points and 4rebounds during the first.

Interview with Dirk Nowitski

Press -"Dirk you had a great game tonight, and your team showed that it can almost toy wiht other teams"

Dirk -"Yes i thought i had a pretty good shooting half for the first half, in the second my shots werent dropping as much and i should have stopped shooting, but i kept at it and got back in my rythm in the fourth. I think our team is really gelling now, as you said we can sort of toy with the other teams, you know let them bakc in the game, to give ourselves a challenge, but i dont think you will see us doing that very much, we were just very confident tonight"

Press -"Thanks for that Dirk, we wish you luck for the season"

Dirk -"Thanks a lot"

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I've decided that im probably going to trade Miller, he is a good player but since i have Wade who isnt that great a pereimeter player i need my other guard to be able to hit the 3 conisitenly, so be expecting a trade soon. :D

Block Buster Trade!!

Today it was announced by the Boston Celtics management, that they had been involved in a 3 team trade (more like two trades) with the Golden State Warriors and Utah Jazz.

The deal saw Boston trade SF Ron Mercer and C Jahdi White to the Warriors for Leandro Barbosa.

The Celtics then turned to Utah and traded PG Andre Miller, PG Leandro Barbosa and F/C Stanislav Medvedenko (Signed) in exchange for SG Michael Redd and F/C Kwame Brown.

Views on the trade:

Boston GM Match_66
"We are very sad to see Andre leave us, but the decision was for the best of the team, Dwyane is not really a pereimeter player and neither was Andre so by getting Redd we now have a very complete back court"

Boston Guard Dwyane Wade
"I look foward to playing with Michael, he can play well on both ends of the court, i will miss Andre, we got on really well but its not my decision"

Celtics Coach John Carroll
"I am very pleased with the deal that GM Match_66 worked here, not only do we get another proven shooter, we also get another very able big man in Kwame, i think Kwame will help make Eddy improve since he will have some competition for his starting spot"

Other news today:
Michael Redd was announced as the Captain for the Boston Celtics.
THe Boston Celtics signed Tony Massenburg, he was placed on the IR list

This game was tipped to go in the favour of the Celtics who are unbeaten so far at home, and have just improved thier line-up. The big question was can the team play together?

The first quarter was close, but it was clear the the Celtics had it all under control. Boston was paced by new recruit and captain Michael Redd with 9 points, he was assisted on the boards by Eddy Curry who had 6 rebounds in the quarter. The Celtics were up 27-21 at the end of the first.

The second saw the Celtics gice the league a climpse of their true fire power going on to score 35 points while only allowing 17. Redd slowed down a little finishing the half with 16 points and Kwame Brown was strong off the bench with 7 boards all in the second, Dwyane Wade had racked up 8 dimes.

Halftime Score 62-38

In the third the Celtics went back to being just a good basketball team still out scoring the Kings 28-22. Curry played a big role notching up some more boards to have 11 by the end of the quarter, Redd only scored 4 points to take his total up to 20 while Nene was pacing the Kings with 16 points. At the end of the third the score was 90-61

The fourth saw the Celtics bench come out and notch up a 30+ point quarter scoring 33 points, while not playing as effective defense compared to what was played in the second quarter, allowing 25 points.

End Score 123-86 Celtics Win

Interview with Boston Coach John Carroll on the new players performances

Press -"Your new recruits played well tonight, any comments?"

JC -"Well i thought they fitted in superbly. They didnt try and take the gmae over, actually i wanted Michael to tkae more shots considering how well he was shooting"

Press -"So Kwame forced Curry to play well"

JC -"Well it would seem that way, Eddy had one of his best games this season, while Kwame played some good ball, they both got about the same time, and both played pretty much equally well, it'll be atough call about who starts next game, proabaly Eddy since i cant see any reason to move him"

Press -"Thanks for that Coach Carroll"

November 11 7pm

5-1 Boston Celtics @ 4-3 Indiana Pacers

Starters

Celtics
F:Tayshun Prince
F:Dirk Nowitski
C:Eddy Curry
G:Michael Redd -C
G:Dwyane Wade

Pacers
F:Rashard Lewis
F:Validmair Radomandovic
C:Dale Davis
G:Bonzi Wells
G:Mike Bibby

Key Match Up: Bonzi Wells vs Michael Redd - An excellent scorer versus an excellent defender, what more is to be said.

The Celtics went into this game with a very confident attitude, coming off a easy win over the Sacremento Kings, and now facing a team that had an even lower pick.

The game started out as Boston had hoped with Kwame Brown coming off the bench with 8 minutes left to ignite the Boston offense. At the end of the first the Celtics were in front 32-22. Kwame Brown was making a good bid for a starting spot finishing the quarter with 10p 7rebs and 2ast.

The second saw the free-flowing Boston offensive juggernaut really roll with the Celts scoring 38 points in the quarter on 72% shooting. Michael Redd had a solid quarter adding 14 points to his 4 first quarter points.

Half Time Score: 70-55

The third quarter saw a comeback by the Pacers, led by SF Rashard Lewis who had 18 points during the quarter. The Pacers also managed to play some good defense to stop the Boston offense and hold the Celts to 15 points during the quarter. Boston still managed to hold on going into the Final quarter bup by 6, 85-79. The Celtics were still confident, with the knowledge of thier fourth quarter finishing expertise in the back of their minds.

The Celtics were stunned in the 4th. This time it wasnt them who were owning, it was the other team. The Pacers went on a 28-8 run to put them ahead 107 to 93 with 3 minutes left. The Celts managed to find themselves and spurred by Dirk Nowitski, they put on a comeback, coming within 3, 113-110 with 10 seconds left and the ball at the base line. The ball was brought up court and passed to Redd who came off a Nowitski screen to put up the 3, to Bostons dismay, Lewis pulled through the screen and put enough pressure on the shot to force a miss from Redd.

Final Score: 113-110

Interview with Boston F/C Kwame Brown

Press -"Kwame, a though loss tonight, yet you had a stunning first quarter and a sloid game"

KB -"Yeah in the first everyone was confident and in a rhythm, so i just took the shots when the guards were finding me open. As for the loss i think it gave us a wake up call that, we cant take any team too easy, to be champions we have to play like champions"

Press -"Well said. From the way you played tonight it looks like you might be in the running for a starting position"

KB -"Well im not really too bothered coming off the bench, Coach Carroll has been running a very good rotation with most of us getting good minutes. Wether i get 33 minutes or 23 minutes im happy as long as i play well and help the team."

Press -"Thank you Kwame"

Forgot you had him on the roster, actually - I was suggesting you trade for him, and making him your starting shooting guard.

November 12 7pm
6-2 Chicago Bulls @ 5-2 Boston Celtics

Starters

Celtics
F:Tayshun Prince
F:Kwame Brown
C:Dirk Nowitski
G:Michael Redd -C
G:Dwyane Wade

Bulls
F:Latrell Spreewell
F:Tim Duncan
C:Stromile Swift
G:Doug Christie
G:Steve Nash

Key Match-up :- Steve Nash vs Dwyane Wade, Wade the explosive rookie vs Nash the unpredicible vet. What more can be said.

The Celtics came into this game very weary. The Bulls had the 3rd pick in the draft, and seemed to come out with the best lineup of all teams. GM Match_66 made a change to the Celts line-up starting Kwame at PF to try and handle Timmy.

Kwame's defense of TD was a showcase from the start. Duncan was non existant throughout the whole game. The Celtics had some truble with the rest of the Bulls through the first half with Nash having 10 assists by half time.

But once the Second half began then Celtics once again showed the true potential of their team, blowing out the Celtics during the 3rd and fourth quarters.

End Score 128-90 Celtics Win

POG Dwyane Wade 26points 11/13 7rebounds 5steals 8assists

Stat Sheets were lost, but it was noted that Tyrone Lue of the Celtics had 12 points 5rebounds 4 steals and 11 assists off the bench.

Interview with Boston Foward Kwame Brown on D effort on TD

Press- "You had a very significant part in this game, even if it didnt show up in the stat sheet"

KB- "Yeah Coach asked me to go out there and shut down TD, this was a very important game for us, as we saw the Bulls as one of the strongest teams in the league and to get the win made the next few games a little easier"

Press- "What are your opinions on rookie Dwyane Wade??"

KB- "I think Dwyane is the best rookie in the league at the moment, he may not socre more than 20 points every game, but he does what we need in every aspect of the game, comeone the guys only a rookie and he is one of the MVP candidates"

Press- "Strong words from you Kwame, we wish you the best with your new team"

Whoa, match, great stuff mate. I really like what you've done with the team. And that was a pretty good matchup, the Bulls had TD, Spree & Nash. Good win mate, you exploded. And Dwyane Wade is really coming into his own. But I gotta ask you, any trading ideas or rumours. If it's Hedo, trade for a tall SF. You've got a good post play with Brown and Dirk, but maybe someone in the middle who's an all round player. Just a thought. Otherwise, good start to the season so far. Where do you sit in the leauge stadings and have any of your players, got a MVP candidate vote??

See you over at my dynasty later mate,
Macca
