The complain (and help) about your computer thread

Postby kevC on Mon Mar 29, 2004 7:05 am

i've noticed many people having problems with their computers... and also many knowledgeable forum members helping them out... so why not make it a thread?

Post all your problems with your computers here (both hardware and software) and try to help each other out..

here's my problem: my internet explorer always gets an error and shuts down... and it shows that annoyin XP "send error report" thing... so i use mozilla for all my browsing purposes but it's a lot more limited than explorer...

Mine does too, and I also use Mozilla. Internet Explorer works now for me but it's really slow(I have a cable line). It used to not even work.

And KevC, you can get it to work if you use Windows Explorer and type in a URL in the box where it shows your hard drive.

sometimes when im online my computer gives a message and then restarts...
the message is:
This system is shutting down.
Pls. save your work in progress
and log off.. this shutdown was
initiated by NTAuthority/system

windows must now restart because
the remote procedure call service
terminated unexpectedly

tends to really be annoying especially when im downloading files...
what the f*ck do you think causes this?

I will be getting a new computer fairly soon as mine is almost too bad to deserve being called a computer.
Any suggestions as to what graphics card and all that other stuff I should get?

Good thread (y)

Here is one of my current and most urgent and maybe only problem:

When I try to start my "IEXPLORER.exe" I get this error message
http://upload.serverseed.com/pictars/ScreenHunter_001.jpg
(Copy and past in new window) It says in swedish so you won't understand it anyway, but you may recongice it.

So then I copied my "IEXPLORER.exe" file and changed the name and tried to start with the copy.

http://upload.serverseed.com/pictars/ScreenHunter_002.jpg(Copy and past in new window) It says in swedish so you won't understand it anyway, but you may recongice it.

Now I get in the to explorer but some important function doesn't work.
Popup windows doesn't work and links sometimes dosen't work, and the PC craches sometimes.

get a Radeon video card, no lower than 9600 since the older don't run Direct X 9 games so well.
Memory at least 512!!!

My problem: Damn near everything, except the 60gb hard drive :D

It gives you a 90 second count down, and no matter what u do u cant stop it!
Thats a Virus, its could be any 1 of about 50. Its causeing an RCP error which shits down your system, i have experienced it a few times my self. I have an article in a PC mag which explains exactly how to get rid, whan i find it i will post what it says!

WHAT ???

Mozilla is far better than Internet Explorer and is far more advanced !

Tabbed Browsing (just open a link with your middle button mouse and you'll see), Popup Blocking, Integrated Search, Download management, far better security and so much more, it beats Internet Explorer in every ways ! :D

And above all, Mozilla Firefox is still under developpement and improving version after version, while Internet Explorer 6 is no longer developped (except for Security Patches)

For those whore are interested, give it a try here :

For Win 98: to install a font stick the .ttf file in C:\WINDOWS\FONTS

There might be more stuff you have to do, i haven't installed them before.

thanks man.... but problem fixed by reformatting the pc... this virus slowly destroyed my pc's performance and it closes down all antivirus programs... i think i got this virus from kazaa and i will never use kazaa again... anyways, still interested in reading the article about this virus...

It's just a virus that exploits crappy Windows XP. Try to keep up to date with all the patches/updates using Windows Update to prevent this. As far as I know, this problem is easily fixed now and you're still susceptible to it after you formatted your drive. Run Windows Update now if you haven't already.

im surprised though that norton antivirus was not able to detect this virus, and i update my virus definitions as much as possible... could you a suggest a different antivirus program that i could use? and do you have a link that has more details about this virus? thanks..
