06/02/2011
Team Result: 102-87 win over Boston (31-14)
Darko's Line: 20 minutes, 7 points, 3/3 FG, 1/2 FT, 4 rebounds, 1 steal, 5 fouls, +17 PD

KEY OBJECTIVES
1. Double Trouble: 10+ points, 10+ rebounds in a winning effort

RESULT
FAIL - Darko's team got the win but he spent most of it on the bench, picking up 3 quick fouls whilst defending Shaq. He had to play with a lot less aggression in the 2nd half to stay on the court but did come up with a couple of key plays and once against had a team best plus/minus differential of plus 30.

Image
The whistle blew even if Darko breathed on one of his Celtic opponents so he took the necessary precautions in the 2nd half. Darko had no blocks.

X's RETRO DIARY
"You must first understand where you have come from before you can define your future"

My 17 years of following the NBA has led me to this point, a YouTube-laden retro diary. Please feel free to leave your comments and opinions, but would prefer if you didn't leave videos as to not spam up the thread. Otherwise, simply enjoy the videos and soak up the retro styles. Tempting to have a banner for this, maybe if it becomes more regular

I mentioned the 1996 NBA Draft in a recent post in an Iverson versus Marbury comment. This was actually my first exposure to the joys of NBA Draft Night. So sit back and enjoy a small snippet from the draft night for what would become, whether you liked it or not, the next generation of lead guards.

Whilst on the topic of the 1996 NBA Draft, I could not forgo posting my favourite collegiate player from that draft. A shame that "Questionable Defense" and "Turnovers" don't go hand in hand with Jeff Van Gundy :( Damn Knicks (N)

To show that I do in fact take my reader's wishes into consideration from time to time, for Mr Sit:

Glad you like. Seems like some of my Bobcats' Dynasty caption comments are coming back

Yep, was one helluva win. The team clicked perfectly. I had a 22-4 run to start the third quarter where defense was turned into offense. Was fun, that's for sure (Y)

Looking back at that draft...I can seriously laugh at the "Weakness" column for Derek Fisher...

Perimeter shooting!! and oh, he just knocks down a handful of clutch shots every playoffs/finals, that's all

and not to mention, since when has being a lefty been a strength for a pro player?

Being a lefty is unique. Only about 1 in 10 or 11.

I love how Iverson & Marbury actually played defense in college but it disappeared once they made the pros..

Fisher just worked on his weakness I guess. He shot only about 30% from 3pt land as a rookie so it was somewhat of a weakness for him. I really liked the draft analysis style they use to have back then. Draft sucks now compared to old school.

I might have to go back & look at Steve Nash's selection (think it was 16th overall) & see what they say about him

lefties are tougher to guard than right handed players.

I saw it just now, weakness was "too selective with shots", which is still kinda true cause' he looks to pass so often and only takes the best shots available

He had a horrible tie and hair on that night

Only if it's the first time and you're only used to guarding right handed players

One thing about the retro update.

Interesting that AI and Marbury both came into the league as kids who 'grew up on the streets.' AI stayed true to himself during his NBA career with his 'hip hop' image while Starbury tried to be a professional from day 1 by doning a suit and not being 'gangster'. 17 years later, they both had the same kind of exit from the league. Both were good NBA players, Iverson was the better one after winning MVP and leading Philly to the 01 Finals. Starbury wasn't bad as he was one of only a handful of players to average 20 ppg and 8 apg for a certain number of seasons.

Interesting that it said Marbury has good point guard skills. When watching him as a rookie in Minnesota playing with KG I 100% agree with that. Unfortunately he became more shoot first in NJ. He should've stayed in Minny with KG (N)

Well, I'd say he's always had the skills as a point guard. He's just never put them to good use. He thought he could do it all and the fact that he racked up the numbers is a testament to his 'skills/talent' but those numbers do not reflect how useless he was as a leader and point guard. Sad because if he had the right mindset and less of an ego, I think the KG/Starbury Wolves (And who's the third dude who was there? Tom G?) would have been a solid team on par with the likes of the Blazers, Spurs, Lakers, Kings of the early 2000s.

Say what you want about Marbury, but he was an awesome lead guard (on some not-so-awesome teams, but that's... well that's his fault but not due to his game) until he called himself the best PG in the world.

11/02/2011
Team Result: 107-105 win over Utah (17-37)
Darko's Line: 27 minutes, 12 points, 5/11 FG, 2/2 FT, 9 rebounds, 1 block, 1 TO, 2 fouls, 0 PD

KEY OBJECTIVES
1. Double Trouble: 10+ points, 10+ rebounds in a winning effort

RESULT
FAIL - One solitary rebound shy of reaching his first Darko Challenge. At least he and his teammates put together a 37 point 3rd quarter to win back-to-back games.

I know Jonny Flynn seems to be featuring a lot in the Pic of the Day. Reason why is he's quickly making fans ask "Ricky who?". T'wolves win 3rd straight and move to 20-40 :P

15/02/2011
Team Result: 103-91 win over New Jersey (14-45)
Darko's Line: 30 minutes, 15 points, 7/11 FG, 1/1 FT, 10 rebounds, 4 assists, 5 blocks, 1 steal, 2 turnovers, 3 fouls, +8 PD

KEY OBJECTIVES
1. Double Trouble: 10+ points, 10+ rebounds in a winning effort
2. Darko's Block Party: 5 blocks (nominated by Sit)

RESULT
SUCCESS - Darko seemed like a man possessed. With the game over and their third straight win in the bag, the great Darko seized 2 defensive boards in the last 35 seconds of the game to secure an unlikely double-double in a win over the Jazz. He also went on a block party early in the game, having 4 by half time, but he had to wait until a few minutes to go to get that magical fifth block. Well done Darko, the people of Serbia bow.

Image
Who the hell is this guy (#10)? Darko doesn't care. You come into Darko Land, you pay the price. Rejected, denied by Mr. Milicic.

Finally cleared a Darko challenge, nice on the winning streak too.

When I'm using the Wolves, Beasley always score 25+ points a game mainly because he is always getting on the freethrow line. Also I'm having troubles getting Love a double-double like in real life.

KEY OBJECTIVES
5. No Harm, No Foul: 30+ minutes, 6+ rebounds, 2+ blocks, 0 fouls (nominated by shadowGrinch)

RESULT
FAIL - Darko did his best to reach his objective but those commie bastard refs were out to get him.

Yep, now up to 4 in a row with win over Cavs (just posted after your post). Nice easy run into All-Star break the last few games (Jazz, Nets & Cavs).

Darko's been solid. Now averaging 7.1ppg, 6.9rpg & 1.3bpg for the season. Yep, got the easy two out of the way. They won't come easy now :(

Love is averaging 12.4ppg & 9.7rpg for me. Not far off a double-double but would like to see his scoring up.

Cheers. In games I play I can get double digits (not 15-20 per game though) but sim games usually let me down (N)
