Here's my 742 HP, 340+ km/h Monaro. I bought it in the used car dealership and I beat the Supercar Festival in the Professional races with it.

There is a slight issue with wheel spin out of corners now and again...

I still can't figure out how to upload replays to youtube yet though.

after some googling even though it was promised that feature was taken out

probably will be added later though

you should try b spec if you haven't yet. that will get you easy money and xp. it's pretty muc hall of the same races except more laps and you have to watch it all. or you can set up a race and do something else i.e. watch the dishes, take out the trash, then kathryn will think you're pulling your share around the house but in reality you are waiting for money

oh and you talked about rolling over i read there's a trophy for totalling your car via rollover

Re: Gran Turismo 5

Sat Nov 27, 2010 3:20 pm

yea but for damage, DAMAGE, you gotta get to level 20 in one or the other. Sooooo, I could try and get through a half level of racin, or go through another 3-4 days of B-Spec

and F U Phil, now I gotta find another car.....(nice pic)

Re: Gran Turismo 5

So jealous, though I hate that there is a Forza-esque XP system. I'm also opposed to B-Spec. I had such a hard time resisting the temptation to just B-Spec my way to the top in GT4.

oh yeah i forgot they split the A & B xp levels. so you're just stuck in the game now?

Just did some tuning and got it to 356 km/h on the Le Mans track. May have also forgotten to break at the end of the straight. :D

Awesome screens guys! Any of you using a wheel? After putting an effort to get used to it at a friends, I eventually realized just how awesome it is, and that was with prologue. I bought one for prologue and haven't used it in probably a year almost, definitely need to give it some use and get GT once finals are done.

That being said I am extremely upset about no cockpit view for all the cars, really hope they patch it with just a generic one for all cars because it adds allot to the experience especially with a wheel.
Do the non-premium cars really look that bad? Like ps2 cars but in HD? I don't think I'll really care, but I honestly can see that affecting which cars I drive most when I'm just casual racing.

For those that have played or bought Forza and GT5, which do you honestly prefer? Is the realistic driving in GT enough to win you over?
I recently got a X360 but my wheel is only for PS3, just wondering if it's worth all the hassle to just get Forza. I'm not a huge racing game fan anymore but the wheel just makes it so much more involved in the race.

Re: Gran Turismo 5

Sun Nov 28, 2010 6:57 am

I have a wheel for the 360/PC but I personally just use it for Grid, Fuel, and Dirt.

I have Forza 2, didn't have time to get into it and play it but as of right now the only thing I like more in Forza is having to pay for your damage and penalties for driving off the course. In GT5 you can still cut through the grass when crossing chickanes or whatever they are called without penalty.

Non-premium cars do look bad.....compared to premium ones. I have noticed that the textures look pretty crappy but unless you are looking for issues you aren't going to find them. IMO it doesn't take anything away from my experience but I can definitely see the differences. I LOVE the cockpit view and I hate that the non-premiums don't have a generic one but I just reverted back to using the outside camera.

I am very curious about Forza 3 now......but I think GT5 with it's rallying and tons of cars is going to keep me happy whereas if I want to just mess around I'll play Grid.

Re: Gran Turismo 5

Sun Nov 28, 2010 9:18 am

honestly i didn't notice that there was a difference between premium and standard cars. i also didn't notice the bad textures in some of the races until jao pointed them out. before all that, i was wondering why they seperated the cars like that. and i was wondering why my Suzuki Cappuccino was a premium

So I was a little irked about Phil's car raping mine so I got a Lambo....

Image

Sorry, fucker is waaaay too fast. Top speed I've hit is 225mph and at Daytona I was doing 40 second laps without hitting the brake or going below 200mph. Road courses are a pain, I burn out the tires and lose control nearly every turn. But I have yet to lose a race to any car (not even the Le Mans cars).

^click it if you want to see it, you know you want to.

Finally unlocked damage, I think if I want to destroy something I need to stick with Grid......I couldn't do anything more than make the bumper hang on the Lambo and my "standard" '62 Buick didn't get any damage on it at all after a bunch of wall runs.

So after that I finally don't feel the need to play and trudge through the game. I think I'll make some more of my favorite cars (I still have ~1 million left), try online, and definitely make my own damn music playlists. Have you guys tried online?

Is that the LP 670?

Mine's blue.

Seriously though, that is one awesome car. The grip and speed combination has helped me win a lot of races by 30+ seconds.

Here's my $40,000 Monaro kicking a couple of millions worth of ass.

tried online once. it was pretty cool. very little lag. can't really do anything but race, which is a bummer. would've liked to see drifting competitions or drag races

Re: Gran Turismo 5

Sun Nov 28, 2010 2:59 pm

I've just reached level 20 and unlocked Extreme events.

So far I've completed Beginner, Amateur, Professional*, and 6/9 of Expert.

* - I got gold in all the GT World Championship races but only silver in the series. I'll re-do it at some stage.

Just bought an Audi R8 for the first series in Extreme and tuned it up to 870 HP.

Kathryn spent all my money again (Shelby Cobra and the old Camaro, both suped up) and then we spent an hour snapping pictures

I miss drag races....weren't they in GT3?

Re: Gran Turismo 5

Sun Nov 28, 2010 4:08 pm

They had the Vegas 1/4 mile thing I think. I'm disappointed that they don't have the top speed test on the big oval track anymore. (N)

Not bad choices. E-money well spent I say.

Re: Gran Turismo 5

Sun Nov 28, 2010 9:38 pm

i liked the vegas strip from gt4 but it was for testing purposes only. i wouldve loved to have drag races on the strip

so when i got to the lambo race in professional i sold a bunch of cars which barely got me enough to get a gallardo. now there's a ferrari challenge. wtf how to i get enough money to buy a ferrari now??
i was thinking racing at daytona in the supercar series but it seems like they're stepping up the competition every time i go back. i smashed the competition with the buick special the 1st time i raced it now they're throwing enzos at me.

i just barely got to level 14 and completed all of the beginner and amateur races and i only have the ferrari and world championship left in the professional. i feel like once i finish those, my level wont be high snough to do any new races. what did you guys do to get up to level 20?

ive done the karting, nascar, top gear, and amg beginner races. i tried the tarmac rally one but i keep losing. tried the intermediate karting race and i keep losing. then i tried the intermediate top gear race and couldn't keep the elise on the road. i suck at this game

Re: Gran Turismo 5

Mon Nov 29, 2010 2:03 am

patients was key, but the special events is what got me to level 19 and then doing the professional events got me over the hump.

Re: Gran Turismo 5

Mon Nov 29, 2010 1:24 pm

Just completed all the license tests. Mostly bronzes though.

Gold - 2, 0, 1, 0, 1, 1. (5)
Silver - 1, 5, 1, 3, 3, 3. (16)
Bronze - 7, 5, 8, 7, 6, 6. (39)

I'm stuck at just over half way through level 20 and not sure how to get more experience without repeating events.

Apart from redoing the GT World Championship event in Professional, I've only got 3 events left to do. (Apart from Extreme events)
I can't do the Historic event because I need a car worth a few million.
I can't do the Gallardo event because I don't have enough money to buy one yet.
I can't do the All Stars event because my fastest car isn't quite fast enough.

Also, I can't do the rally special events. I bought a Ford Focus RS and failed. Then I bought a Subaru Impreza and still failed.
So then I bought a Mitsubishi Lancer Evo VI and still can't beat it. They were all tuned up to within a few HP of the limit as well.

Have you guys managed to beat the rally events? What cars did you use?

Re: Gran Turismo 5

Mon Nov 29, 2010 9:32 pm

um i'm at level 14 and i already beat the lambo challenge with my gallardo i bought for it. im working on buying a ferrari for the ferrari challenge. probably the cheapest one that's not the california. i would like to get an enzo someday. and also a bugatti veyron but that's not even offered so i assume it's a prize car. i saw you had one jao where did you get it??

i beat the beginner rallys today with my renault megane i bought for the french and hatch races and i had to take some stuff out of it to bring it below 249 hp. i got a free 98 impreza for winning those and am using that to dominate the intermediate rally races. the tarmac races seem to give me the most difficulty but the dirt & snow ones are easy for me.

Re: Gran Turismo 5

Mon Nov 29, 2010 10:06 pm

You get a Veyron for winning the GT World Championship series in Professional.

I upgraded mine and now it's 1220 HP and reaches 430 km/h.

Re: Gran Turismo 5

Mon Nov 29, 2010 10:18 pm

oh snap, i'm working on that championship right now. what car did you use to win?? my gallardo can't cut it. it keeps spinning out on every corner.

i'm high on the veyron because i read that it has the fastest 0-60 time in the world at 2.7 seconds. stock.

Re: Gran Turismo 5

Mon Nov 29, 2010 10:29 pm

Originally I used my Murcielago 670-4 to win those races. But I re-did the series today with my Audi R8. Both are fully done up.

They are 4WD and have have amazing grip + speed. I won each race by 30+ seconds, so you probably don't need to do too much to them.

The R8 cost just under $200k, (Murcielago is $395k), so that's probably the better option. (Y)
