Brandon Jacobs wanted out of New York for a long time after run-ins with coach Tom Coughlin. Jacobs was told last night that he had been traded to the Indianapolis Colts in exchange for quarterback Curtis Painter and the Colts' 2nd round 2011 NFL draft pick.
The Giants released wide receiver Darius Reynaud to make room for Painter and also signed rookie free-agent running back Andre Dixon to a 2 year deal worth $1.52M. Ahmad Bradshaw will now be the full-time running back for the New York Giants.
The Giants face the Carolina Panthers in the season opener, who allowed 124.8 rushing yards per game (#22) last season.

Behind a new defensive coordinator, a new home and a new opponent to the 2010 season, the New York Giants weren't going to allow the Carolina Panthers to spoil the homecoming.
Behind Corey Webster's three interceptions (2 of which were endzone picks), Eli Mannings big day and a defense that looks more than spectacular, the Giants were able to put their past-season blunders behind them and get a little bit of revenge on the way to a 31-0 season-opening victory Sunday.
Despite both teams starting two three and outs to start the game off, the Giants were able to rely on Eli Manning's 323 yards and 3 touchdowns after rushing for just 37 yards off 32 attempts. "We couldn't get going in the run game with Ahmad [Bradshaw] and Andre [Dixon], so I knew it was all on me, were a good football team, a lot of people expected today's performence to be so-so but we weren't going to let it happen, we wanted to start out great and finish out great."
Under Perry Fewell's new blitz-crazy system, the Giants brought back memories from their 2007 Super Bowl winning season sacking six times, forcing 4 interceptions, one by new free safety Antrel Rolle who made a difference also in the run game recording 9 tackles and restricted the Panthers dynamic rushing attack to just 41 rushing yards, new starting linebacker Jonathan Goff recorded a team-high 10 tackles and dominated at the line of scrimmage with Justin Tuck who recorded 3 sacks.
To put into perspective Matt Moore gained the most rushing yards with 22. "It wasn't a great performence, there's still a lot of football left," said Panthers quarterback Matt Moore. Unfortunately for Moore, either the Giants are a very good team this year or the Carolina Panthers are just very poor.
Either way after a sloppy start the New York Giants managed to move the ball quite successfully against the Panthers defense (355 yds) compared to Carolina's 279 with no points scored. "We played a great game today," said free safety Antrel Rolle. "We were just ballin' out there we want to go back to the Super Bowl and if we put in these kind of performences, then it can happen."
The Giants may want to start running the ball a little better if they want to get back to the big game.

Eight long years it took for the New York Giants to defeat the Indianapolis Colts on the road. In what was a better Manning Bowl than the first,
both teams had fast starts on the offensive side of the ball before it turned into a defensive slugfest.
On the first series of the game, Eli Manning completed 15, 14 and 7 yard passes to three different receivers before
running in a 12 yard touchdown to put the Giants atop 7-0 after a 7 play 69 yard drive.
"It was a great first series," said Manning. "We felt really good about it after we were able to establish the run with Bradshaw back there." Ahmad Bradshaw went on to rush
for 115 yards in the 20-10 victory over the Indianapolis Colts Sunday night.
The Giants defense ranking 4th coming into the game were surprised by how the Colts moved the ball around. Peyton Manning completed 2 deep passes,
a 20 yard pass on the second play of the game to Reggie Wayne and a 43 yard pass to Dallas Clark, both would leave the game later but helped the Colts
level the game up with a 8 yard pass to Wayne in a 7 play 81 yard drive.
"We took this long huddle," said Jonathan Goff the starting middle-linebacker for the New York Giants. "It was crazily loud in there, we just said,
"Look this is the time now to stop them, we cant afford no more blips" we responded well and we allowed just one more field goal the entire game."
The Colts offense stuttered quite a bit in this game, Peyton Manning completed 23 of 46 passes for 256 yards for a touchdown and an interception
that gave him a quarterback rating of 65.1, the Colts ran the ball just 7 times for 27 yards and recorded just 271 total yards of offense.
The other Manning, the younger brother, Eli, completed 22 of 34 passes for 258 yards and a touchdown that gave Eli the better quarterback rating of 97.4,
the Gaints were able to move the ball a lot better when strong safety Bob Sanders went out injured.
"It was a hard offense to stop," said Melvin Bullitt, who came in for an injured Sanders and recorded five tackles. "They have a great team,
we just managed to sack them twice, it was just one of those days."
One of those days were in favor of Ahmad Bradshaw who recorded 194 yards from the line of scrimmage and touched the ball 31 times in what was easily
a vast improvement over last week's game.
The New York Giants improve their record to 2-0 to tie themselves first place in the NFC East with the Eagles and Redskins whilst the Indianapolis Colts
drop to 0-2 and are bottom of their division with the Jacksonville Jaguars.

New York quarterback Eli Manning threw three touchdown passes and Giants' defense held Duke to 213 total yards as
the New York Giants rolled to an easy 31-17 victory over the Tennessee Titans at New Meadowlands Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
The 2009 NFL Offensive Player of the year Chris Johnson who rushed for over 2000 yards last season was held to just 6 yards from
14 carries as the Titans struggled to get going only after a 39 yard fumble returned for a touchdown by Will Witherspoon jump started
a lackluster offense.
"I do think we’ve got things to work on, but when you play well and you have success, it builds confidence," New York head coach Tom Coughlin said.
Corey Webster recorded two interceptions, his last was his sixth of the season at this rate Webster would steam roll a nfl record for most interceptions
in a season with 32.
"I think a lot of players take Webster for granted," said free safety Antrel Rolle who also recorded his second interception of the season. "They will think
he's a so-so player, let's lob it down there because we will get the ball and get some nice yards."
It's been anything but nice down where Webster has been active in coverage. "I think coaches will think to throw away from Webster," continued Antrel Rolle,
Rolle was signed in the off-season and has been vital back deep for the G-Men in their quest to get back to the Super Bowl.
Defense may win championships, but offenses also help them get there too, Ahmad Bradshaw had another big day recorded 94 yards and 2 touchdowns,
the Titans defense just couldn't stop him, on the first Giants snap of the game Bradshaw ran a counter and ran through the Titans defense 21 yards for the
touchdown.
The only offensively great thing that happened for the Titans all game was Nate Washington who recorded 7 receptions for 111 yards and a 14 yard touchdown
catch.
The Giants defense is ranked second in the league and is considered just three games in as to be one of the best in the league, they are just one of the four
remaining teams to be unbeaten going into week 4, there are no unbeaten AFC teams left. "There's a whole lot more parity this year than previous years," said
coach Tom Coughlin.

The most unlikeliest of players managed to bring a team back from a 27-16 deficit and throw two late touchdowns as the Giants
defeated the Bears, 30-27 Sunday night.
During what was a defensive first quarter where the Giants took an early 3-0 lead, it turned into an offensive firework show the following
three quarters. The Bears took the lead 9:52 in the second quarter when Jay Cutler completed a 33 yard pass to Devin Hester.
The fortunes of the Giants were going to change, Mario Manningham fumbled the ball and Hillenmeyer returned the fumble 31 yards inside
the Giants 5 yard line and it was capped off with a touchdown. D.J. Ware fumbled the ball on the kickoff, but the Giants defense stood strong
and allowed just a field goal with just under 5 minutes remaining in the second half.
The Bears got into the Giants 10 yard line again only for Johnny Knox to drop the ball wide open in the endzone on third down, the Bears took the
field goal and extended their lead to 13-3 with just 1:14 left in the second quarter.
Andre Dixon returned the kickoff 58 yards and he took fumbled the ball but luckily it went out of bounds and Eli Manning connected with Ahmad Bradshaw
on a 40 yard touchdown pass to close the deficit to just 13-10 with 41 seconds left.
After Devin Hester caught a pass as the Bears tried to take the lead again with 30 seconds left, Aaron Ross forced the fumble and Terrell Thomas
recovered it, returning it 18 yards, the Giants took the field goal and the scores at halftime were level 13-13 apiece.
Jay Cutler threw a Hail Mary to Devin Hester for 53 yards but couldn’t make it to the endzone as the buzzer hit 0:00.
That didn’t throttle the Bears as Cutler connected with Hester on a 62 yard pass to put them back ahead 20-13. The Bears somehow were managing to get
around the #2 ranked defense.
The Giants converted the field goal with 6:06 left in the third quarter to close the gap to just a 20-16 deficit, but that wouldn’t matter as Jay Cutler
then threw a 69 yard touchdown pass to Johnny Knox to give them a 27-16 lead with 4:45 remaining in the third quarter.
And that’s when the theatrics started. Rosenfels threw a 7 yard touchdown pass to Hakeem Nicks with 6 minutes left, the Giants were now just down 27-23.
The Giants defense got the Bears offense finally off the field as the Giants offense went to work with just 3 minutes of the game left.
With just 1:50 left Rosenfels appeared to get sacked but shrugged off the defended then slinged it 23 yards to full-back Madison Hedgecock
in the back of the endzone and took a powerful hit but hanged on as the Giants took back the lead they had not had since the first quarter. With just 1:22
left the Bears threw a running back screen which failed on fourth down and the Giants walked out still undefeated.

The Giants' Defense held Matt Schaub to a 9.5 passer rating and 77 yards as the Giants rolled to a 19-10 victory Sunday.
Matt Schaub could only complete just 8 of 21 passes for 77 yards and 2 interceptions and although Arians Foster ran in a
84 yard touchdown, Foster would rush for just 2.0 yards per average sending the Houston Texans into a zero dimensional
offense as the Texans picked up just 187 total yards on the day.
"We didn't play too well, give the Giants some credit they played great, we played awful," quarterback Matt Schaub said.
The New York Giants used two running backs to get the ground game going in Ahmad Bradshaw and D.J. Ware, unfortunately
for the former they went out injured and now Ahmad Bradshaw is sidelined for 7 weeks with a strained back, now D.J. Ware
will get his first career start against the Detroit Lions next weekend.
"It's unfortunate that Ahmad is out now, he was playing well for us," said Giants coach Tom Coughlin, even though the Giants
received bad news about the injury they still remain unbeaten going into Detroit with a simple task of dismantling a rebuilding
franchise.
Aaron Ross and Antrel Rolle picked off Matt Schaub once each, Corey Webster limited Andre Johnson to a solo catch and Giants
quarterback Eli Manning completed 18 of 26 passes for 135 yards and a touchdown.
"We played pretty well, we know when were playing well we can be the best team around it just takes a lot of drive and energy,
which is what we have," said linebacker Jonathan Goff. The Giants defense this season is allowing just 12.8 points per game this
season.

In this week's segment: The Giants add Ahmad Bradshaw to the injured reserve list...McNabb joins him, Romo the turnover machine and how 'bout dat Flacco?
• The Giants are going to place Ahmad Bradshaw on the injured reserve list following the 19-10 victory over the Houston Texans. Bradshaw suffered a sprained back and could be back towards the end of the season, but the Giants will place him on the list and hopefully sign him back next season.
• Ben Roethlisberger will return to face the Cleveland Browns this weekend, Brian Cushing came back with a strong performence recording 6 tackles. Atari Bigby and Al Harris is due back in a week as well.
• Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo might be throwing for 339.2 yards per game but has also thrown a boat load of interceptions (9) this season in just the first five weeks of the season. The Cowboys are 1-3.
• Joe Flacco led the Baltimore Ravens to a historic 23-17 win, he became the first Ravens quarterback to complete 35 of 55 passes for 322 yards and 2 touchdowns, the Ravens defense held Moreno to just 38 yards but it "feels good" to Flacco for the offensive production produced against the Broncos.
• Redskins quarterback Donovan McNabb is out for the rest of the season with a torn rotator cuff, Trent Williams is probable after straining his achillies, perhaps the absence of his protection finally caught McNabb's leg.
• Here's my list of the best teams in the NFL (top 10) as each week passes we get a better look and understanding of the 32 NFL teams.- 1. Philadelphia Eagles (5-0)

This game will surely go down as one of the greatest games of the Detroit Lions in the 21st century. It's been dubbed the Matthew Stafford comeback.
Despite Eli Manning torching the Lions secondary for over 300 yards and D.J. Ware eclipsing the century mark, the Detroit Lions staged a frantic last
minute comeback from Matthew Stafford with a 5 yard touchdown pass in the back of the endzone to Nate Burleson.
Matthew Stafford completed 20 of 38 for 273 passing yards and 3 touchdowns as the Lions came back from a 10-0 deficit and eventually won
the game, 27-23 with just a handful of seconds left at the New Meadowlands Stadium Sunday.
Kevin Smith rushed for 52 yards from 13 carries, although one of those carries he torched the Giants vaunted run defense for 34 yards,
although not solid numbers it kept the Giants defense guessing whether to stack 8 men in the box or blitz on passing downs.
The Giants guessed wrong on a 72 yard touchdown pass to Derrick Williams where they had sent everybody inside the box to contain what had looked
like a run.
"We didn't know what was happening half the game," admitted safety Antrel Rolle. "It was a diaster I don't know why we played so bad, maybe the Lions
are just turning good now."
Turning good? The Giants fell to 5-1 and the Lions improved to 2-4, hardly the excuse of an embarrasing loss. Manning was sacked five times, and Lions
safety Louis Delmas picked Manning off, forced a fumble and recovered another, the positive part of the Giants loss is that they managed to get to
Mattheq Stafford seven times, although rattled Matthew Stafford recorded a 91.2 passer rating.
"Were going to Dallas now for big primetime game, we have to bring our A game," said Giants linebacker Jonathan Goff who recorded 11 tackles in the
upset to the Detroit Lions.

In this week's segment: The Giants fall way down the rankings, Manning's 500 yarder, Brady for MVP?, Wayne hustlin', Roethlisberger's 2010 season debut and take that Altanta! MV#7 is back!
• In last week's 48-31 victory over the Chiefs, Peyton Manning had another big day. Manning threw for 535 yards, 6 touchdowns and just 2 interceptions, Manning is pretty much the mid-way MVP, although Brady and Michael Vick are right on his tail.
• In the Patriots 45-17 win over the Baltimore Ravens, New England's quarterback Tom Brady complied a monstrous day throwing for 478 yards and 5 touchdowns. That defense really misses Ed Reed who should be back anytime soon. Tom Brady is my favorite to win the MVP award this season.
• We already discussed Peyton's big day, how about Reggie Waynes! Wayne caught 15 balls for 279 yards and 4 touchdowns, quite unrealisitc numbers, but when you play a defense like the Chiefs, I guess anything is possible.
• Ben Roethlisberger is back from his raping suspension, "Big Ben" completed 30 of 53 passes for 400 yards, he thew 2 touchdowns and 2 interceptions. At least he was throwing for a huge amount of yardage.
• Michael Vick handed the Falcons their first loss of the season throwing 51 times for 428 yards and 2 touchdowns, the Eagles improved to 6-0 after defeating the Falcons 23-14 and are #1 in the NFC East with the Giants losing to the Detroit Lions.
• Here's my list of the best teams in the NFL (top 10) as each week passes we get a better look and understanding of the 32 NFL teams.- 1. Philadelphia Eagles (6-0)

- 6. New York Giants (5-1)

In a fierce rivalry that has featured several of the most notable NFL players in NFL history, a couple of rookies made their mark in memorable fashion.
Add fourth-string wide receiver Victor Cruz to a list of notable New York Giants that includes Lawrence Taylor, Eli Manning, Plaxico Burress and
Michael Strahan.
Dez Byrant, welcome to a club that includes Roger Staubach, Troy Aikman, Michael Irvin and Emmitt Smith.
Dez Byrant caught a deflected pass in the endzone with 3:52 left in the final quarter, and the Dallas Cowboys completed and the comeback outlasted
the Giants 10-9 on Monday night.
Even with two of their starting safety's out the Giants held the Cowboys to 11 rushing yards on 17 attempts, 106 passing yards and 117 total yards of
offense, the Giants offense recored 366 total yards of offense and converted 12 of 19 third downs, but could not get the ball into the endzone.
"Dez definitley earned his Stars today," said head coach Wade Philips. Bryant caught a deflected pass in the endzone for the winning score, although
the Giants drove down the field, Lawrence Tynes missed a 54 yard field goal by inches as the clock ticked down to zero.
"It's a bitter loss definitley, we should of come in here and beaten them, we will get another chance to do just that in a few weeks," said the Giants
Quarterback.
