i need help with video card settings

Tue Mar 23, 2004 5:03 am

had a nvidia geforce3 ti 500 and recently got a ati radeon 9800 pro 128mb card. so far, it doesn't seem like it's as good as the old card, which i know isn't true. i haven't gone into mvp or nba live yet, just high heat 2004, but the same settings should apply. in high heat 2004, my old card showed crisp colors, textures, and contrasts along with red reds. when i play the game now, it seems like the textures aren't as sharp, the colors aren't as sharp and vibrant, the uniforms aren't as detailed, the stadiums don't seem as sharp. i've got the radeon 9800 pro set to the best quality settings (i'm more interested in visual quality than i am frame rates and performance). i've tried both settings - custom, with maximum quality settings with all 3d & openGL sliders all the way to the right except vsync, which is in the middle and set as 'application preference'.

i've also tried the settings with the 'applications preference' boxes checked and the quality settings all the way to the right (quality). it didn't seem to make much difference. i have the setting explanations from ati, but thought i could get some more input from gamers.

what version of the catalyst drivers do you have?

out of curiousity, what is your system setup (i.e., cpu, mb, ram, etc.)?

driver 6.14.10.6430 dated 2/24/04. athlon t-bird 1.0ghz, windows xp home edition, 512mb pc-133 ram, gigabyte ga-7zx mb, and a 17" lcd nec multisync 1760v monitor. some of the regular stuff looks awsome, but some seems to lack some detail.

i even noticed when i play links 2001 golf - the players and the course look super but on the overhead hole view cam, where i could see the flight of the ball and where it landed in the overhead cam, with this video card, i cannot see the ball at all. like i said, i've tried custom settings and application preference settings and i haven't noticed a difference. my desktop and web homepage don't seem to be as sharp as they were before either.
