Uhhh...fossils?
It should be fair to note that despite their dominant family being reptiles, the direct dinosaur descendants we have around today are birds. Reptiles are related but are a different evolutionary offshoot.
The bone structure makes this evolutionary connection blatant.
Alton Brown provided a useful culinary example here.
