Dan Gilbert, Chris Gant Missing
October 23, 2010, Cleveland (AP) - In a shocking turn of events, both Cleveland General Manager Chris Gant and Cleveland Owner Daniel Gilbert have gone missing. Both Gilbert and Gant have been reportedly missing for a week. Newly appointed Cavalier coach Byron Scott was the first to confirm the story as true.
"This is one of the strangest things to ever happen to the NBA and this organization. I sympathize with the families of both men but I feel that we still need to move forward for the sake of this organization. If we don't find a temporary replacement for these two while the police do their work, the city of Cleveland won't have an NBA team this season."
David Stern has yet to confirm whether a team needs a GM and Owner to be able to participate in an NBA season.

David Stern answers questions; Cavs need GM before season opener begins.
October 24, 2010, Cleveland (AP) - After the strange disappearance of both Cavaliers owner Dan Gilbert and General Manager Chris Gant, the question of whether a team could go a season without both a GM and an owner were posed to David Stern. Today, David Stern announced his decision of the situation.
"As far as I know, a team can go without an owner for an entire season. I can't say the same about the general manager position though. Without a general manager, a team is ineligible to take place in the NBA season and will be forced to give up their players in a dispersal draft."
The Cleveland Cavalier franchise has yet to determine who will be their general manager for the 2010/11 NBA season, and with the NBA season opener only two days away, things are looking grim for the franchise.
