Defense Ideas or Suggested Slidders?

What's up? Been playing Live nonstop for a week now. The game is cool and much better and realistic then last year but one thing still get's me...the computer still shoots over 50%! I've bought down all shooting related slidders for the computer to 25 (down from 50) and they STILL shoot 50%! Most of them are fast break layups and dunks. As you all know, most NBA games the teams shoot 40%-45%. Is it because I'm playing with the Knicks and they can't defend? Anybody got any ideas on strategy or slidders?

Well, I think the other team is shooting 50% because most of their shots are layups and dunks. You'd expect most players to nail layups and dunks.

I guess it all comes to defense and whether your players are getting back or not. Somebody suggested that the 'Crash Board' option should be off, that way your players can get back on D faster. That and forcing your opponent to take more outside shots as well I guess.

I mean, I don't wanna sound like a teacher or anything, but that's what I can gather from what you've explained.

I hold the computer to about 45% shooting, and I generally shoot about 48%. I double team a lot on defense, and while I do give up layups, it helps to disrupt their offense enough that they generally have a poor shot. I've been playing on superstar, 12 min. quarters, in order to find the "perfect" sliders.

The most important things in avoiding fast breaks is to take good shots. I think this is an extremely realistic but difficult part of the game. If your PG drives the lane out of sync with the play being run, you will have poor court balance and give up a fast break with nobody back. Work on running through the plays and taking quality shots. If you are playing a team that likes to run try feeding your big men a lot and make sure you take shots in the flow of the offence. This leaves your PG, SG or SF back to disrupt the fast break.

Also use the 'last man back switch' button to immediatly pck your deepest defender and make sure he gets in position.

Despite doing better at this I got frustrated with All-Star mode and went back to Starter. I think the gameplay in starter is the best so far, I just bump up the CPU defence and shooting a bit to keep it difficult.

If you double the big guys once they get the ball on the blocks they won't shoot all lay-ups and hooks, if you do this they'll pass around and take the open shot if it's there..

tone down the layup sliders.
and the dunk frequency.
if you change those to 25 it should be better.

there are other things like speed that you may want to change too.

The field goals % is inflated because the game does not record blocks as missed field goals sometimes.

If you can't keep up with players, let the computer guard them for you and you can guard a guy off the ball, switch to contest shots and on fastbreaks.

My trick is to use the big men in the post, to block up the lanes and force the outside shot. Usually, if you use the guards, you're gonna get beat, especailly when he passes to the guy in the post. Then you double team, he passes back out to your man who your supposed to guard and he either hits the open shot or you foul him. But either one of these suggestions above is alright, I use some of them and they work good for me
