Primacy or Clutch, which do you prefer?

As some of you might recall, Primacy replaced the Clutch stat of the old PS1 (or PC if you are a PC gamer) games. Personally, I would have EA junk Primacy and bring back Clutch as a measure of a player's greatness. Having a 93 3pt is jack if you choke in the homestretch. Case in point, in Live 2004, playing against the Lakers. Kobe gets injured in 2Q and I took advantage and lead by 7 at 4Q oh so suddenly Kareem Rush sinks 5 straight 3 ptrs which causes me to lose. WTF, KAREEM RUSH?! In Live 2002 (PS1), I was playing as the Wizards and 8.3 secs left. I inbound to MJ (who had a clutch of 5-this being the highest) and he does a 17 footer turnaround fadeaway against Vlade and swish nothing but net. Primacy is good, but Clutch IMO, is a better stat because it shows the maturity and effectiveness of a player as opposed to potential. Well that may be just me but what about you guys?

how about both? as long as ea could make it work. from what ive read on another thread, the primacy ratings mean shit...

I think both could definitely work

but primacy ratings need some tweaking of their own

I always thought about this as well, and if you think about it, you can have both, and just have the clutch rating overtake the primacy rating down the stretch of quarters and games (overtimes as well)

for example, shaq gets the ball most of the game, but in the clutch the lakers would go to kobe...

a thing I have noticed now is basically ANYONE can make a buzzer beating shot from ANYWHERE...if you shoot a 3 with jahidi white at the buzzer, there's a 95% chance that you'll make it

that to me is not really an effective way to replace the clutch rating

I'm down with both being implemented...but they really need to work on the primacy rating

I agree with that, I was gonna post pretty much the same thing.

I would say that primacy shouild just be how much somebody gets the ball...because for one, we all know PGs run NBA Live, and even if the PG isn't the best player on the lineup, the CPU will usually have him scorin the most points, and droppin 2 many assists. But with people like Dennis Rodman, who have very high FG% but don't shoot much, should just have lower primacy.

Yea why not both, Primacy would determine who got the ball most often (thi needs to be improved), then clutch would determine those guys that can hit the big shots and who got the ball when the game was on the line.

Primacy did not replace the Clutch rating. Up until NBA Live 2001, both ratings were in there game, though Primacy was a hidden attribute. The game calculated Primacy ratings for created players using their offensive ratings.

They are completely different ratings and always have been. The Clutch rating was simply removed.

I think it would be best to have both ratings in the game.

I Agree (Y)

Thanks for the info Andrew, although, looking back at the old Live's i can't help but chuckle at Ray Allen's stratospheric stats only to see he has a Clutch rating of 3

:| Primacy is very important in my opinion. It really determines how often the computer uses the player. It really has nothing to do with clutch. I agree that clutch should be a part of the game but they need a more in depth rating system. Something like a 20 pts system that breaks it down further.

A formula for Primacy
i.e.( Lebron should have something around a 76 based on the rest of the league.) He shoots about 19 shots a game. At 76 he will shoot about that. Look up a player's shot attempts per game and multiply it by 3.96 and that will give you his primacy rating. Remember to adjust that according to his mins per game if he plays less than 30.

Andrew: Mike only shot 22.6 shots a game in 95/96 so he should have around a 90.

I prefer not to use stats-to-ratings formulas as I feel they're too rigid. Also, I have to take into account simulated performance. With a primacy of 99, MJ averages about 29 ppg in tests of my 95/96 rosters. But thanks anyway. :)
