GetLiveDir ... Released!

Cameron wrote:Well, the wait is over for my tool release. I know it is a small tool but I think it will lead to bigger things. This tool is called GetLiveDir. It allows patchers to create batch files that can install customart patches from any directory. This saves users the time and trouble. It was created to overcome problems with another program in the works, but it seemed useful on its own so I released it as a separate entity. Currently its version 0.9 BETA, because while it works seemingly flawlessly on my PC, there might be some bugs for users to find.

Well, please post comments, questions, etc here, and enjoy!

Great news Cameron! (Y) I'm sure a lot of patchers will be able to put this to good use now that EA has released the CustomArt fix. :)

nifty (Y) could you give a shot at a program that would enable you to batch .dbf changes? i'm sure a lot of patchers would find something like that quite useful. :)

It is all right if you are early to put out this tool, it seems that function is not big now
You had better put out the tool that can be supported Windows.

Thanks Andrew :)

I've got a lot of ideas in mind... definitely a blotch type program in mind, or possibly one that allows batch files to add new lines to a file (ie add a new player with few steps)

Doesn't Don Daily's getnba2kx do basically the same thing?

Well........ I tried to contact Don about this program, and never got a reply :s Also it seems his site is down, I can't access it. And I really needed a fix for the blotch program... as it needs to modify the dbf files, but graphics need to be put in the program files directory... this program allows you to do all blotch installions from one directory. Ever since they separated the two folders... I don't know why, but it made things a little trickier. The other thing is that, aside from not being able to find Don's tool (which btw was made for 03) I heard from a few patchers that it has a pretty confusing syntax and is difficult to use. This program is easy as it is very similar to normal dos commands.

Hope that answered your question

Actually, getnba2kx was indeed for 04. he released it soon after the game came out, and has most recently been used in the national teams patch. it's not too hard to figure out either, David, DANet, Ultranix and a bunch of others have already used it. Don also did a blotchy type of program, although that one is still in the development phase, and right now tricky to use. a blotchy tool from you would be great though :)

Thanks for the heads up man.. would have been good to know before I made this, but lol w/e... Does Don have a new site? I try the link from here and there is no site there...

About this program and any others, I'm just going to keep making what people request and what I think would be needed... you know how there's always this concept that people shouldn't make patches because they've already been made? People make the patches for fun and release them in case anybody wants them... I look at programming the same way, I make things because I enjoy making them, and if people want/use them that's good, if not then oh well I still probably will. Its just a hobby you know? I ain't no professional programmer. Oh btw Tony this rant wasn't directed at you at all, just wanted to clear this up in case a problem arises where maybe Don and me make the same type of program or something.

a blotchy tool from you would be great though

Yep, this is one of my current projects - a blotch based on the original blotch, and one maybe that allows you to copy a player from one players.dbf and add it to another - ie a replacement for cbdflite.

Anyhoo, back to getlivedir... you can still post any questions/comments you have on the program here, and I'll be glad to help. Thanks for downloading!

nice tool Qweet and definately easy to use.. can I suggest that you expand it to allow for files to be copied to the save slots too so that rosters etc can be installed as well... Don's nbaget2k tool allows you to do this... if your could do this then it would be great as the syntax for your tool is a lot more straight forward.. (Y) Thanks

Thanks for the complements...

Once I find there are no bugs, I will change its version to V1.0 ... and it achieves its goal of overcoming problems with blotch, that was its initial purpose. But David, I spose I could come out with a v2 that allows you to copy lines from dbf files and add them to other dbf files ... (y) If that's what you mean.

i think he meant just so you can copy dbf's to the "save" folder in my documents.... like as in now it searches for "c:\program files\ea sports...." make it search for "c:\documents and settings\...\nba live 2004" too...
like "getlivesavedir" or something :P

copying lines to the dbfs won't be too useful for roster updates.... but updating the lines would..... if it's possible
copying lines would be great for custom team addons though~ (Y)

yes that is what I ment thanks iDiot... :)

NBA Live 2004 saves the roster files to the users My Documents folder. To be able to use your tool to install mods that have roster files or needs to update roster files you need to be able access that folder. It is this folder that will always be different on every computer too because it contains the user name in the directory so it needs to be obtained from the registry. If you want to enhance this program to be able to copy lines to a dbf go ahead.. but isn't that what blotch is used for?

Unfortunately for the NBA Live community Don had to leave on a business trip about a week after NBA Live 2004 was released and he only recently returned. When he returned he found that the place where his site was hosted was no longer there...

Don is back and is currently looking for a new internet home for his stuff...

Qweet, if you decide to tackle this issue feel free to contact me...I can fill you in on a few My Document detection issues that you may not be aware of...

Ahhh guys, I see what you mean now (I think!!! LOL I will just make every tool and hope one of them is what you're talking about ;) )

Anyway, I was exploring the registry and found the program files folder... and I was like, I can use this to move files automatically there! So when you extract everything to my documents and run a batch file which blotches the players.dbf, it can also move the graphics files to the program files one... this was good enough to fix this but I would definitely rather it be totally easy so that you can run blotch from any folder as well, unfortunately I wasn't sure how to find the my documents folder via anything... so I will definitely get in contact with you DaNet!!! (Thanks btw)

Sorry if this post seemed cluttered and unorganized and seeming to lack a point... Vince just did this sick left handed dunk... can't concentrate... raps playing so well.... must ... stop... posting... get... off... computer... have - to - watch - raps - play - well - for - a - change!!!!!!!!!!!

 I'm relying on you guys to get this thread back on topic, lol... ttyl!
