It's really random to blame NASCAR for the delays......it's the same logic that people on OS use when they say getting rid of Blacktop mode will make Association better.

anyway
There are also claims that the game has been delayed due to the recent PS3 hack. It was apparently was about to go to production, but needed to be updated so it ships with the latest firmware to ensure that the game is pirate-proof.

"There are numerous reasons why we need a little more time, but I'm not going to go into them," a spokesperson from Sony Computer Entertainment of Europe told Kotaku. "What matters is that the delay will be a short one and the game will live up to expectations."

yeah it's really bad logic, but you gotta find something or someone to blame

Re: Gran Turismo 5

it's Gran Turismo.....it's like blaming Valve for delays.....expected without reason.

DAMN! This and LBP 2 I was planning to get in November until the delay happened.

So the game is out, mine is coming from Amazon today. Got it for $20 after the discounts I got from Halo and CoD.

Heard that you "unlock" Damage and Tire/Gas depletion. That is HUGE - for me but w/e. It's GT, the PS3 now has 10gigs free for it (i only had 2), and I'm ready for some backwards kart racin' ya'll.

I'm hopefully getting my copy tomorrow. :D

I've been jealous the last few days seeing people who've already got the game post videos and pictures online.

i'll be getting it in about 4 hours (haven't been sleeping well recently) and debating on sleeping for a few hours or trying to stay up.

and Jao it takes 10 gigs on the HD??? wtf that's gonna hurt my 20 gb ps3. with 4 of that already used for ps2 emulation. luckily the rest of it is for games i do not play anymore

Re: Gran Turismo 5

Wed Nov 24, 2010 11:41 pm

yep, 10 gigs required, 100mb+ patch to start off with, and it takes nearly an hour to install FYI.

you can bypass the install which will slowly install the game as you progress through it but evidently that messes with the frame rate

Re: Gran Turismo 5

Thu Nov 25, 2010 5:21 am

Games have had options like this in the past.

You have the option at the beginning to install 8gb to hdd, this just allows for quicker load times in most cases. I can't talk directly for GT5 but it usually doesn't affect actual game-play just load times.

If you choose not to install the game will just install what it needs when it needs it.

As an example:
If you didn't install at beginning, and select Autumn raceway, it will load in a minute, during this minute it is temporarily installing the track to your hdd. If you were to finish this race, exit to the main menu, and decide to race the track again, it would have to re-install the temporary data.

Where as if you did install it might take 30 seconds to load the track.

Game-play shouldn't be affected (frame rate), but then again I haven't played the game this is just the way it usually works.

Re: Gran Turismo 5

Thu Nov 25, 2010 5:53 am

it could be placebo, I should get my copy in an hour or two but Im just going to wait it out for the full install

Re: Gran Turismo 5

Thu Nov 25, 2010 12:41 pm

it is optional. but dear lord some of the menu load times are ridiculous even WITH the install. it sucks to go from used car dealer to home to an actual race. pretty much anything to do with the gran turismo mode's home screen. i bet this game is unbearable (read: Blitz: The League on PS2) without the 8 gig install

Re: Gran Turismo 5

Thu Nov 25, 2010 12:49 pm

Damn. Still really excited to play it, but that is a shame about load times. This is 2010, damn it!

Re: Gran Turismo 5

Thu Nov 25, 2010 1:10 pm

loads suck but the game plays good. the non-premium cars are a let down when I was trying to trick em out/cockpit view.....I would have rathered have generic interiors.

Autumn ring.....ugh, and the Top Gear track both have TERRIBLE graphics in some areas. The Top Gear's buildings are hilariously low resolution (compared to the rest of the game) and the TG trees are the 4 textures placed together in a cross trick. Autumn ring's trees look copy pasted and 2d as well. The crowds look like a 2d texture which I am not happy about but you do need to look for it for it to bother you.

the track generator is fun, that right there does a lot for replayability for me....once I unlock damage (level 7 right now)

I dont know if it will happen or not, but I LOVE in Forza 2 how I have to pay for the damage done to my car, I hope it's the game in GT.

Re: Gran Turismo 5

Thu Nov 25, 2010 1:18 pm

Haha, I hated that feature. I love sim racing, but as someone who's been playing since GT2, I can't help but use the other cars as brakes.

Game installing now.. :applaud:

Re: Gran Turismo 5

servers went down earlier just as i was sending you a gift, jao :lol
i think it's gone for good unless you got it

yeah menu loading is a little better the 2nd time i fired it up for some reason. i think it's because the 1st time i played it couldn't connect to the server so maybe that had something to do with it

and i failed the B license test ion high speed ring just in awe... admiring the scenery as you cross the bridge i really liked the improvements for the original GT track

and i am a big fan of their streamlined loading screens. you don't need to exit between license tests and races in a championship series

yea it's useful. I stayed up late trying to get to Level 10 for damage....come to find out I only get tire damage. Level 20 gives me physical damage......dammit.

The special events are awesome for lots of XP & money though. Kathryn loves GT and when she finally came up she spent all my money on her favorite classic muscle cars (that I could buy with my level). 75k cR ------ FLUSH. lol. Maybe I'll sell some when she's not looking.

Re: Gran Turismo 5

Fri Nov 26, 2010 2:32 am

ouch.
for the special events, you have to clear all 3 in each? i did the top gear beginner one and it took forever, i have to do it again 2 more times?

what cars have you purchased to get through some of the events? i'm stuck on the classic cars ones. i can't seem to find any cars made before '79/'69

have you tried b spec yet? i tried to win one to get the trophy and got smashed. then i tried again with the free GTR Stealth car i got and it was pretty easy then. i still dont like that mode. it was convenient in GT4 when i was too lazy to race the races myself

Re: Gran Turismo 5

Fri Nov 26, 2010 2:51 am

well top gear intermediate runs with lotuses so its a bit faster (and a lot harder to control). The NASCAR ones are just like the licensing tests so far (first 2) the ACR one just teaches you how to run that long, hard, narrow track in germany (and gives tons in money & xp) but the rally one has been my favorite so far (i tricked out a 98 Taurus, lol)

as I said, Kathryn kinda spent my money so I havent really gotten back to the collection part yet. or normal A spec. for the advanced stages I ran with a new impreza and for the 90s Japanese one I got a skyline. One of the cars I unlocked in the beginner stages I used to beat most of the other ones....I forget what its called but it looks like a PS2 quality car and has stickers all over it.

haven't tried b spec, I never tried it in GT4 so i dunno if Ill try it now (idc about trophies says the 23k 360 gamerscore person)

right now I am just whoring out the special races for xp so I can get my damn damage. did the intermediate go karts, nascar, and got frustrated with the lotus top gear race. after I take care of prepping dinner Ill do what is left for special events then go through and clean out the beginner stages.....or get my first international license.....bah, too much to do, I havent even started ricing out my cars yet either.

btw, phil, add me on PSN, only person in my friends list who has it is Q. JaoSming is my PSN.

Learn to control your woman Jao! Show her who wears the pants in the house. Next thing we know you're making sammiches for here while she's playing. :shake:

The Top Gear stuff is pretty frustrating. The VW race was tedious and I couldn't even do a lap on the lotus race without losing control or hitting a cone.

Today I'm concentrating on finishing all the beginner events. Ideally without spending any money.

Re: Gran Turismo 5

fucking won a race on top gear....its with 8 cars, and its this old, war like VW....tops out at 50 mph and the twist on the race is there is a 2nd race going on so you run into the other cars at the figure 8 part

special events are totally the way to go at first, I have 1.5 million right now and 40k XP away from my precious damage....i can taste it

on another note, patch tomorrow for online stuff I think and a 2nd one December first adding Damage to Arcade mode, something about rollovers and some other jazz.

Re: Gran Turismo 5

Sat Nov 27, 2010 9:47 am

yeah i noticed that when i played the vw bus top gear challenge it said there was a crossover portion of the track but everybody was too close to together. i might just try to knock out some of the special events today. i cleared almost all of the beginner and amateur i still need a japanese classic car, pick up truck, and i have a bad feeling im gonna have to buy that old ferrari to beat the italian race and euro classic

Re: Gran Turismo 5

Sat Nov 27, 2010 10:53 am

bah, I am halfway through level 19 and I can't get gold on any more special races and the A-Spec/Licenses don't give crap for XP (in comparison) I need another 25k I think.

anyway, I pimped out my Skyline, bought a TVR specifically for the paint chip  , and did every damn update possible. This car beats the suped up super racecars and I beat the Gran Turismo Cup with it against those cars. Nasty Acceleration but it tops out at 165  I need to learn the transmission stuff.
