Building a PC for 2k11?

Postby pacificsmoke on Fri Sep 03, 2010 8:52 pm

Didn't know which section to throw this in, so my apologies if not pertinent here. Im pretty good with computers but have never actually put one together, so I went in on this blind. Below is what I put together for my price range. I need to know if there are any glaring compatibility issues.

Thanks.

You need a double core processor (I suggest AMD Athlon). Im not sure if using 6 cores will be better or worse :?

Another thing is, your video card has to be 6th generation or higher. I would suggest 8600s, I didn't have any problems playing 2k with it.

I think he isn't gonna use this PC only for NBA 2K11, so I wouldn't recommend Processor with only two cores. I would buy processor with at least 4 cores.
GTX 460 is higher than 6th gen. Or am I missing something?

Correct. It'll be for other games but 2k11(and this mod community) will be the main reason I buy it.

And If Im not mistaken...6 cores>4cores>2cores? No? And I know for sure the graphics card is top of the line.. My main thing is, on my list, is there anything that screams, "those two combos won't work together"

Your going to need two SATA cables since both of those oem drives are bare drives. You won't be able to connect them to your motherboard without them. Unless the motherboard comes with cables, you won't need to buy any more. You'll have to confirm that before your purchase.
Looks like a solid build that will last a couple years and maybe more if you ever need to update any components later on down the road like the video card.

I bought MSI motherboard couple of days ago and got 4 SATA cables, so I guess he should get these too. But I'm only guessing

I looked at the image on newegg of your motherboard and it only comes with one SATA cable, so you need one more.

You should easily be able to run NBA 2K11 with a system like that, not to mention most new PC games.

What OS?

You'll need a 64-bit one to use all that ram.

Thought I heard of people having problems with 2k10 and Windows 7 64bit...Something about the game just shutting down on them.

Blown out of proportion ?

Your PC is more than enough and i'm almost positive you can play Crysis on high settings. Don't bother with Windows Vista. Get Windows 7 64-Bit.
I'm playing NBA 2k10 on Windows 7 but on 32-Bit. It should work on 64-bit.

Played 2k10 on windows 7 64 bit for a while, crashed perhaps once. I definitely recommend 7, I switched from vista x64 and would never go back. (Y)
