Sugar: The Bitter Truth

Postby puttincomputers on Wed Aug 11, 2010 10:11 am

I think this is very good message for those of us who are sports and fitness minded
the video is an hour and a half long!
Robert H. Lustig, MD, UCSF Professor of Pediatrics in the Division of Endocrinology, explores the damage caused by sugary foods. He argues that fructose (too much) and fiber (not enough) appear to be cornerstones of the obesity epidemic through their effects on insulin. Series: UCSF Mini Medical School for the Public [7/2009] [Health and Medicine] [Show ID: 16717]

The other thing that should be pointed out here is that the obesity epidemic isn't as bad as everyone says. BMI doesn't account for health, or body type, or even the amount of fat present in the body.

It doesn't matter what the video contains...
I shall not respond any further, as I have satisfied your criteria for objectivity and experimental and mechanistic rigor, and I have better things to do than engage in this continued puerile one-upsmanship. I’ll let the public decide who they wish to believe. And thus far, based on the 230,000 (510,000 as of now) YouTube hits and numerous blogs extolling this line of reasoning, I’ll take my chances.

So then who was lying when you said HFCS was as bad for you as alcohol, you or him?

You do realize that there is no possible way HFCS is literally "bad for you in any amount" considering I'm aware of zero cases of anyone dropping dead from having well, any amount. It's not fucking strychnine.

But hey, you can't get famous saying, "yeah, this stuff is fine to consume, moderately, don't panic, like everything though overconsumption can potentially lead to problems down the road." You have to scream "THEY ARE KILLING YOU WITH THIS! AND YOU ARE ADDICTED! WE NEED TO BAN EVERYTHING THAT COULD CAUSE YOU LAZIES TO GET FAT DOWN THE ROAD! DA CORPORATTIONNNSSSSSS!!!!!!!"[/Paul23] to get any attention.

Oh, and I thought this thread was about sugar, not HFCS. Or are you nuts finally accepting there's minuscule difference between the two in fructose content, and the primary difference between them is that one gets subsidized out the wazoo because we hate trading with brown people and other foreigners as that might cause food prices to drop?

All the food scare crap lets people blame the latest bogeyman rather than figuring out how to construct a proper diet on their own. And the government doesn't help with its absurd food pyramid and supporting all those irrational scares.

At least someone is telling the truth, high fructose corn syrup is part of the plot to destroy the American diet and force everyone into slavery by insurance companies. We need to ban this and regulate diets to make sure these crimes cannot be perpetrated on the American people. These corporations should not be allowed to kill the American people for profits. Instead we need to make sure people are consuming healthy diets full of grains and dairy and low in fats and other meats. If we need to levy massive taxes on these horrific foods then so be it. If the government is not working to save the American people what is the point?
