Marvel Vs Capcom 3 (or others in the series)

Postby Oznogrd on Fri Jul 23, 2010 11:30 am

So I finally have a game trying to take Soul Calibur's spot as my favorite fighting game. I had the original on Dreamcast and i have the sequel on XBLA so...this may be the first game i'll own a complete series of.

On another note: I wanted to see if anyone has interest in this game besides me because honestly, i'd love to pwn each other over Live. Give me a reason to pay for this damn gold subscription outside of Netflix.

What do we know about the game since the E3 Announcement?

3 vs 3 action
Graphical Style similar to SFIV
Control system similar to MvC2 (lp, hp, lk, hk, assist buttons)

Confirmed Characters:
Marvel
Captain America
Deadpool
Doctor Doom
Dormammu
Hulk
Iron Man
Magneto
M.O.D.O.K.
Spider-man
Super-Skrull
Thor
Wolverine
X-23

Capcom
Albert Wesker (Resident Evil)
Amaterasu (Okami)
Arthur (Ghosts N Goblins)
Chris Redfield (Resident Evil)
Chun-Li (Street Fighter)
Dante (Devil May Cry)
Felicia (Darkstalkers)
Morrigan (Darkstalkers)
Nathan Rad Spender (God's Hand)
Ryu (Street Fighter)
Trish (Devil May Cry)
Tron Bonne
Viewtiful Joe (Viewtiful Joe)

In the style of Phil89, I'll try not to cream myself over all the videos like below coming out:

I'll try to keep this thread updated with new character announcements as I hear them. I personally hope they got away from some of the spam happy traits in MvsC2 (still a great game, but 1 button fucking projectiles/2 button triple hyper combos? Come the fuck on) and a little bit closer to SF or the original MvsC. They already seem to be stretching the roster to some lesser known characters so I'm hoping for a huge roster like in 2 (56 characters is awesome).

Ok oz, Stop Rambling now.

Not confirmed yet according to that list, but Spider-Man has to be on the game.

Yeah im still waiting on that announcement but i say it'd be safe to assume spidey will be in it due to a whole stage set in New York during the Macy's day parade with giant spidey balloons. No Marvel title is complete without him

Deadpool rules and Super Skrull just raped them in that video.
Already seen Deadpool use his guns and swords for his special/super attack, just waiting to see the one where he grabs the health bar and uses it to attack the opponent, as said in some articles.

deadpool breaking the 4th wall when he wins

Love it. They said in an interview at e3 that deadpool is their most finished character so who knows what else we could see?

Holy shit. Got this game today. My girlfriend bought it for me. Seriously, i need to marry this girl

My fingers are sore and i loved every second...

Nothing like a well crafted fighting game that you can pick up and learn quickly enough to have fun with but complex enough where you get the idea you'll still be learning for a long time...

MVC2's difficulty curve was wayyy too high. Even on easy, there was no guarantee you could win with you favorite characters. I could only win by cheesing.

well, i got very good with my favorite characters (or the ones i was good with became my favorite characters)... i think it was too fast-paced for me. i think it became too much of a button-mashing affair for anyone not obsessed with the game. i would say i wasn't a complete newb but i wasnt exactly pulling off infinite combos either. people in the middle like me find a few moves that work and do them over and over again. being a huge SF fan, i also didn't like how the SF characters were waaay weaker than the others. it was just a lot of little things that i didnt like about mvc2

btw, my faves were guile & rogue and i usually play with venom as my 3rd.

oh and i don't really know a lot of characters from mvc3 so i wasn't too excited about it either. i loved SF and xmen so mvc2 had a nice roster

The balance was terrible in 2. Like you said: several characters were just flat out useless. I have no idea why they made that way. And you're right it was too fast paced. I suck at it unless im using cable/cyclops/ironman and just blast it with beams. So I agree with you on 2. It wasnt as good as everyone made it out to be. I read the reviews and everything before i bought it and i was kinda done with it in a week.

This so far hasnt felt that way. Characters are viable, they have a variety of ways to play them etc. I'd suggest renting it if you're not sure about the characters and pacing though.

Sorry your faves arent in this one but you never know with patches and DLC

yeah i really doubt it. seems like they made a concerted effort to put new characters in the games, and part of the reason why they had so many SFs and Xmen in the last one was the fact that they had recently made 3 SF Alpha games, Xmen COA, Xmen vs SF, and Marvel vs SF. they've only made 1 new SF game since then and they inclued Viper in the game if i read correctly.
