New album by everyone's favorite uber-pretentious indie rockers! Funeral (their debut) is one of my favorite albums, but their second disappointed, and I think this is the album where everyone gives up on them. It has its moments, but its about a half hour too long, and boring in places.

New 36 Crazyfists album dropped yesterday and it's fucking epic.

I haven't listened to it much, I got it at the same time as the Avenged Sevenfold one and it put me off music for a day or so. Will have to check that out.

Leaked yesterday, albeit in low quality. Probably won't crack my top 10, but its better than Our Love To Admire. Because I'm nice, and its the first time I've ever made a winRAR archive, here's a link if you want to be a bad person:

Listening to "The Catalyst" this morning, I was thinking "WTF?" over and over and over again. Apparently LP is letting fans remix the song so it's damn near impossible to find the real version on youtube.

Yeah, TOTBL's a classic. Antics is decent, and Our Love To Admire kinda blows. I'd probably put this new one on par with Antics. Barricade's probably their catchiest song to date.

I'm waiting for November 16 like crazy. New Kanye album + NFS Hot Pursuit 2010.
It's going to be legendary.

Oh my god that it going to be so sick. Didn't even know they were making HP 2010! Hopefully Kanye's album leaks before then though.

As much of a hipster prick I am, I've still listened to all of Weezer's terrible post-Pinkerton albums. Despite the album art, their newest, Hurley (which leaked today), is probably their best album of this millennium. It's cheesy and all, but I'd say its worth a listen for fans.

I should probably copy a rant about Weezer I made on another site:
HOLY FUCK WEEZER IS STILL GOD-AWFUL
I CAN’T BELIEVE I DIDN’T PICK UP ON THAT FIVE YEARS AGO, BUT STILL.
FUCK YOU RIVERS GET MORE DEPRESSED.
I should probably explain the thinking behind this.
Okay, so their latest album (available for streaming) is fairly decent, obviously well above Red and Make Believe (not difficult to do), possibly better than Raditude and probably inching towards Maladroit/Green (which are equal on the scale, methinks, as yawnstipatingly solid albums).
BUT EVERY TIME THEY RELEASE AN ALBUM I KEEP THINKING, HEY, I TOTALLY BET THEY’LL MAKE SOMETHING THAT AT LEAST PARTLY RESEMBLES PINKERTON BUT NOOOO IT’S ALL THIS COCKNUGGET SHIT WHERE RIVERS’ CLEARLY DOESN’T GIVE A QUARTER OR EVEN A FIFTH OF A SHIT ON MOST OF THE SONGS WHILE TOSSING IN ONE OR ONE-AND-A-HALF GOOD TRACKS TO TEASE.
So on the hierachy of post-Pinkerton...
Green---Maladroit---Hurley--------------Raditude-----Red--------------------------------------------------------------------------Make Believe
The thing is, Rivers manages to produce at least one pretty darn good song per album. Then I assume he gets too lazy and fills the rest with lazy power-pop anthems. 'Unspoken' and 'Time Flies' are brilliant. Everything else pretty much sounds the same. At least Michael Cera is in one song!
Mon Sep 13, 2010 3:12 am
Totally agree with you on Unspoken and Time Flies. Definitely the best on the album. However, the supporting tracks are far more listenable than they were on their five previous albums. Run Away is another very good song, and with the exception of Where's My Sex, all of its better than Raditude. For me, it probably goes:
Blue Album: 10/10
Pinkerton: 10/10
Green Album 5.5/10
Maladroit: 5/10
Make Believe: 1/10
Red Album: 4.5/10
Raditude: 1.5/10
Hurley: 6.5/10
Mon Sep 13, 2010 6:54 pm
Yeah, I rate Green (7 to 7.5) and Maladroit (8) higher. I personally think Maladroit's rather underrated.
I'd kick Raditude up to 5 maybe, because it's a more listenable version of Make Believe (0.5)
I would be willing to take a dump upon The Red Album and walk away from it without feeling any remorse. I was so hyped when 'Pork and Beans' came out. Just like I was kind of, with 'If You're Wondering If I Want You To'. The album is absolutely a combination of crappy power-pop AND songs where Rivers tries too hard and fails miserably.

I didn't hate Red, though I did swap in the best bonus tracks (Ms Sweeney and Pig) for the other band mates' tracks. Also, The Greatest Man That Ever Lived was awesome.

I'd put all of them at/below 4. I liked Weezer when I was like 10 years old. I listened to them so fucking much now I hate them.

On that note, Linkin Park tomorrow: I like Linkin Park, but I think I'm gonna wait on it until my friend buys it.

If their album is like "The Catalyst", I'm not wasting $10.
Tue Sep 14, 2010 7:44 am
From everything I've read it's god awful.
Tue Sep 14, 2010 8:50 am
On this one, I'll probably agree with you.
EDIT: Yes I think I agree with you. I read a review of it Sounds terrible. Just like the last one, only worse because they've gone way out in their own universe where techno is better than rock. Sorry. Not here. Bring back Hybrid Theory please.
