I like the idea of having a stable and proven veteran big in place in case Asik doesn't pan out (or at least is slow to adapt to the NBA game) and keeping Miller around to be that player would've been a good move in my view, but there's obviously better opportunities out there for him. The Rockets are offering money and a chance for playing time that the Bulls probably wouldn't, so no surprise he's moving on. A shame, but good luck to him.

Would Shaq accept the minimum though? The Bulls can pay him more, obviously, but that's not a commitment I'd like to see them make...at least before all other non-minimum free agent avenues have been explored. Whether or not he'd be comfortable coming off the bench remains to be seen as well. I see him going to the Heat before the Bulls (unless the door's already been closed on that idea).

Absolutely terrific offseason. Sure, we didn't get on of the big three, but from what we know now, there wasn't much chance of that happening anyway, so we can legitimately say that from all of the available players, we got one of the best possible combinations. All we miss now is a combo guard capable of backing up Rose, playing spot minutes at 2 and providing another threat from beyond the 3 point line. Ironically, Hinrich would be ideal in that role. Also, I wouldn't mind an additional big man, preferably a veteran player that could mentor younger guys and step in when (if) one of our big men gets injured. Perhaps we could get Chuck Hayes from Houston, considering they have a glut at the 4.

(Personal disclaimer: for the past year, I strongly believed that the Bulls have the best chance of landing LBJ. Rose emerged as an All-Star and as an potentially outstanding second banana, Noah grew into his role of a defensive stalwart, we had other quality players who we could either use as trading chips to free up even more cap space or as role players on a championship contender,... Too bad LBJ decided to forfeit his ambitions of challenging MJ as the GOAT, because Chicago presented him the best place to achieve this.)

Agreed, I wouldn't mind having Gordon and Hinrich on the current squad, though that's obviously financially unfeasible (and moving Hinrich's contract is currently helping them construct the team).

C.J. Watson comes to town in a sign-and-trade. Bulls give up a 2011 second-rounder.

Any real reason why this needed to be a S'n't? He was a free agent. The Bulls could have brought him in without giving away anything, couldnt they?

As far as the acquisition goes, it's not too bad. He's no Kirk Hinrich, but he's also no Jannero Pargo. So it should work out fine. He won't have a whole lot of pressure on him.

And with that, the Bulls have got their first 10 players pretty well sorted.

PG - Rose/Watson
SG - Brewer/Korver
SF - Deng/Johnson
PF - Boozer/Gibson
C - Noah/Asik

Centre is still a little weak, especially if Noah gets hurt again, or struggles to put together 36-40 minutes. Another veteran to play between him and Asik is still a good idea.

Kindness? Professional courtesy, perhaps? Gotta be careful giving away those second round picks sometimes, the Bulls essentially traded away Paul Millsap a few years back.

Anyway, seems like a solid enough signing. I too would like to see them go after another big man as insurance along with another swingman. To be honest, if there's any mutual interest and they're willing to play for the minimum, I still wouldn't mind seeing them rent Shaq and T-Mac for a year.

Good acquisition. A center is needed for sure as i don't think Asik can help as Miller did. And maybe a Sg/Sf should be the second priority

Watson, a restricted free agent, signed a three-year, $10.2 million deal with the Warriors, who then traded him to the Bulls, a source said. Watson is expected to back up Bulls All-Star point guard Derrick Rose.

Sign and trade for salary amount purposes. Same deal with LeBron and Bosh. If C.J. Watson signed outright as a FA, the amount of his salary would be less as compared if he signed with his original team and then traded.

Ah, I forgot he was a restricted free agent. The Bulls should still have been able to pay him that much if they'd signed him to an offer sheet, but regardless the sign-and-trade eliminates the need for that and gives the Warriors a second round pick for their trouble. Guess that explains that.

yeh i agree they should bring in a 3rd center. PJ Brown or Kurt Thomas? i wouldn't have wanted Brad Miller on the contract Houston gave him

I believe this time, they can skip the welcoming committee. See if he'll sign for the minimum with no guarantees of starting or anything like that, if he's not interested leave it be and wish him luck with the Clippers.

Kurt Thomas would be alright, he's a little undersized but he's been solid throughout his career despite that. He's a proven veteran who'd likely come cheap and would likely accept the role they could offer him. I'd be on board with that.

Another terrific signing. While Watson lacks Hinrich's defensive prowess, he provides much better performance for dollars spent.

I fully support the Kurt Thomas suggestion, but I'd also like to see Bulls to add another swingman who can defend and hit open shots. Yes, it seems we have positions 1-3 covered (Rose/Watson-Brewer/Korver/Watson-Deng/Korver/Brewer), but none of the player has proved to be particulary durable.

It would have been cooler if they had their courtside announcer introduce T-Mac via the airport PA as he was entering the area where the Bulls contingent were waiting.

Eddie House is rumoured to be heading to Chicago. Not bad if it's true, I still think another swingman and big man are in order but he'd give them a bit more depth at guard and another three point shooter to bring in off the bench.

I had read a mail at bulls.com Sam Smith's mail bag about House,and i have to admit that i totally forgot him. He will be a tool,with the full meaning of the word. He can take big shots(in fact he only shoots) and can be a great reserve for Deng and Brewer as well. Korver is Power forward or Shooting Guard? Or sth in the middle?

Korver's a swingman. He's definitely not a power forward.
