Thinking back to all the games you've played, can you recall all the ones you've finished? Any particular memories to share about the difficulty or the endings?
My list (that I can remember off the top of my head):
- Various NBA Lives (SNES, PC, PS2, Xbox 360)...in so far as playing through seasons and winning the championship. Same goes for NBA Jam TE, NBA Hangtime, the original NBA Street and NBA Street: Homecourt.
- World League Basketball (SNES). This was the PAL port of NCAA Basketball, replacing the college teams with fictional professional teams located around the world, competing in the "World Basketball League". Not a bad basketball game, plus it featured in-game saves.
- The WWE Smackdown series, starting with Just Bring It and Legends of Wrestlemania. (PS2, Xbox 360). In the same vein, WWF Warzone, WWF Attitude, WWF Wrestlemania 2000, WWF No Mercy, WCW/nWo Revenge and WCW vs nWo World Tour for the N64.
- Return to Zork (PC). A quick search for videos of the ending on YouTube reveals some scathing commentary, but I always thought it was kinda cool. Love the triumphant music during the ending video.
- Solstice (NES). Well, sort of. I could never finish it back in the day, I ultimately used a walkthrough and a cheat code when I had another shot at it a few years back so I guess I haven't really beaten it.
- Doom II (PC). Several times back in the day using codes, finished it legitimately without any cheats a couple of years ago.
- Grand Theft Auto (PC). The original is pretty short - and rather easy - looking back on it now.
- Grand Theft Auto III (PS2). Took me four years and a few times starting over from the beginning, but I finally did it back in 2006.
- Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories (PS2). Actually finished it before GTA 3.
- Conker's Bad Fur Day (N64). A true cult classic, maybe a bit before it's time and released on the wrong console. Nintendo didn't do it any favours but it was a really fun game. Some frustrating parts though.
- Donkey Kong Country (SNES). I can't remember if I fully completed all the bonus levels though.
- Donkey Kong Country 2 (SNES). I did fully complete this one, but only after I got the Internet, looked up a walkthrough and went back to get the two last bonus barrels in Web Woods.
- Donkey Kong Country 3 (SNES). Fully completed this one back in 1996/1997, between us my friends and I found all the bonuses, probably along with hints from the official Nintendo magazine.
- Defender of the Crown (NES). Took my father and I a long time to beat it back in the day but once we found out the winning strategy, we could usually finish it on every attempt after that for a little while.
- Super Mario Bros 3 (the version on Super Mario All-Stars, SNES). I did use the warp whistles to get to World 8, however.
- Fallout 3 (PC, Xbox 360). And all the expansion packs, along with almost all of the achievements on the 360. I really found it that addicting.
- Commander Keen 1-6 (PC). Apparently, there's a community still making mods and unofficial expansion packs for them.
- The Mortal Kombat series (SNES, N64, PS2, Xbox 360). Only the fighting games though, none of the spinoffs.
- Monkey Island 1-4 (PC). Monkey Island 2 is probably still my favourite.
- Sam & Max: Hit the Road (PC). I like the new ones, but I still prefer the original.
- Day of the Tentacle (PC).
- Full Throttle (PC).
- Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego? (PC). Yes, really. Hey, I was ten.
- Guitar Hero II, III and World Tour (Xbox 360).
- Super Mario Kart (SNES) and Mario Kart 64 (N64).
- Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time (N64). Still one of my favourites. I've played through it a few times, the last time I did I tried a little sequence breaking for a change of pace.
- Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask (N64). Love this one too, but liked OoT a little more.
- Goldeneye 007 (N64). Another classic, lots of fun multiplayer memories but playing through the single player game was a lot of fun too. Least favourite memory: killing Trevelyan in the last level after he drops down the final ladder, then accidentally falling off the platform before the end of level cutscene is triggered.
- Lemmings (Acorn Archimedes PC). It'd be so much easier too, the solution to every level can be found on YouTube.
- Pirates! (in its various incarnations; NES, PC). Another one of my all-time favourites, there's no true ending per se but I've basically reached the highest post-piratical career possible and scored 128/128 in the remake, which is basically as close as you can get to traditionally finishing the game.
- Body Blows (PC). Not sure if anyone else is familiar with this one, but it was pretty similar to Street Fighter. Pretty good beat 'em up.
- Leisure Suit Larry 1-7 (PC). I've only played a demo of Magna Cum Laude and seen reviews of Box Office Bust but both sound like disappointments for fans of the original series, so I'll steer clear. The originals were a lot of fun though.
That's about all I can remember for the moment. What are some of yours?
