Games you've finished

Postby Andrew on Wed Jul 07, 2010 10:31 pm

(To be followed by a companion thread, games you haven't finished)

Thinking back to all the games you've played, can you recall all the ones you've finished? Any particular memories to share about the difficulty or the endings?

My list (that I can remember off the top of my head):

  • Various NBA Lives (SNES, PC, PS2, Xbox 360)...in so far as playing through seasons and winning the championship. Same goes for NBA Jam TE, NBA Hangtime, the original NBA Street and NBA Street: Homecourt.

  • World League Basketball (SNES). This was the PAL port of NCAA Basketball, replacing the college teams with fictional professional teams located around the world, competing in the "World Basketball League". Not a bad basketball game, plus it featured in-game saves.

  • The WWE Smackdown series, starting with Just Bring It and Legends of Wrestlemania. (PS2, Xbox 360). In the same vein, WWF Warzone, WWF Attitude, WWF Wrestlemania 2000, WWF No Mercy, WCW/nWo Revenge and WCW vs nWo World Tour for the N64.

  • Return to Zork (PC). A quick search for videos of the ending on YouTube reveals some scathing commentary, but I always thought it was kinda cool. Love the triumphant music during the ending video.

  • Solstice (NES). Well, sort of. I could never finish it back in the day, I ultimately used a walkthrough and a cheat code when I had another shot at it a few years back so I guess I haven't really beaten it.

  • Doom II (PC). Several times back in the day using codes, finished it legitimately without any cheats a couple of years ago.

  • Grand Theft Auto (PC). The original is pretty short - and rather easy - looking back on it now.

  • Grand Theft Auto III (PS2). Took me four years and a few times starting over from the beginning, but I finally did it back in 2006.

  • Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories (PS2). Actually finished it before GTA 3.

  • Conker's Bad Fur Day (N64). A true cult classic, maybe a bit before it's time and released on the wrong console. Nintendo didn't do it any favours but it was a really fun game. Some frustrating parts though.

  • Donkey Kong Country (SNES). I can't remember if I fully completed all the bonus levels though.

  • Donkey Kong Country 2 (SNES). I did fully complete this one, but only after I got the Internet, looked up a walkthrough and went back to get the two last bonus barrels in Web Woods.

  • Donkey Kong Country 3 (SNES). Fully completed this one back in 1996/1997, between us my friends and I found all the bonuses, probably along with hints from the official Nintendo magazine.

  • Defender of the Crown (NES). Took my father and I a long time to beat it back in the day but once we found out the winning strategy, we could usually finish it on every attempt after that for a little while.

  • Super Mario Bros 3 (the version on Super Mario All-Stars, SNES). I did use the warp whistles to get to World 8, however.

  • Fallout 3 (PC, Xbox 360). And all the expansion packs, along with almost all of the achievements on the 360. I really found it that addicting.

  • Commander Keen 1-6 (PC). Apparently, there's a community still making mods and unofficial expansion packs for them.

  • The Mortal Kombat series (SNES, N64, PS2, Xbox 360). Only the fighting games though, none of the spinoffs.

  • Monkey Island 1-4 (PC). Monkey Island 2 is probably still my favourite.

  • Sam & Max: Hit the Road (PC). I like the new ones, but I still prefer the original.

  • Day of the Tentacle (PC).

  • Full Throttle (PC).

  • Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego? (PC). Yes, really. Hey, I was ten.

  • Guitar Hero II, III and World Tour (Xbox 360).

  • Super Mario Kart (SNES) and Mario Kart 64 (N64).

  • Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time (N64). Still one of my favourites. I've played through it a few times, the last time I did I tried a little sequence breaking for a change of pace.

  • Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask (N64). Love this one too, but liked OoT a little more.

  • Goldeneye 007 (N64). Another classic, lots of fun multiplayer memories but playing through the single player game was a lot of fun too. Least favourite memory: killing Trevelyan in the last level after he drops down the final ladder, then accidentally falling off the platform before the end of level cutscene is triggered.

  • Lemmings (Acorn Archimedes PC). It'd be so much easier too, the solution to every level can be found on YouTube.

  • Pirates! (in its various incarnations; NES, PC). Another one of my all-time favourites, there's no true ending per se but I've basically reached the highest post-piratical career possible and scored 128/128 in the remake, which is basically as close as you can get to traditionally finishing the game.

  • Body Blows (PC). Not sure if anyone else is familiar with this one, but it was pretty similar to Street Fighter. Pretty good beat 'em up.

  • Leisure Suit Larry 1-7 (PC). I've only played a demo of Magna Cum Laude and seen reviews of Box Office Bust but both sound like disappointments for fans of the original series, so I'll steer clear. The originals were a lot of fun though.

That's about all I can remember for the moment. What are some of yours?

I get the feeling my haven't complete will be much longer. I'm also out of a matter of pride not counting anything i defeated with level cheats or gamegenie. Also not including traditional sports games like NFL2k or whatever that dont really have a "completion" point

NES
Kirby's Adventure-one of the greatest platformers ever.
Super Mario Brothers-its tough sometimes but i've done it.
Adventures in the Magic Kingdom-just..yeah...lets not talk about this
Legend of Zelda-took 6 year old self years but i did it
Double Dragon 2-Best, beatemup, ever

Genesis/SNES
Sonic & Knuckles-Knuckles side: its way easier than sonics
Toy Story-Great platformer
NBA Jam T.E. (exception to no sports since theres a level of completion)
Jammit (had a career mode: counts also despite sportsness)
Out of this World-Old school adventure game: probly the hardest game i've ever played
Golden Axe/Streets of Rage-great beat emups.

N64/PS/Dreamcast
Conker's Bad Fur Day-May be the only game i've only played on emulators and beaten. Its fantastic
Crazy Taxi-when one round is leaves blisters on your fingers, i consider that copletion
Dynamite Cop-another fun beat em up
Quake III Arena-one of the few FPS' i enjoy
Soul Calibur-bought every illustration and had every character
Tony Hawk Pro Skater 2-everything but get every gap i've completed in this game
Phantasy Star Online vol 2-only beat it once before my DC stopped working well enough to play it
Shenmue-best free form adventure game ever
Sonic Adventure
Marvel Vs. Capcom
Toy Commander

PS2/Gamecube/original Xbox era
GTA: Vice City
Guitar Hero 2/Guitar Hero 3/Guitar Hero 80's
NBA Street 1 and Vol 2 (career completion)
Shenmue II

XBox 360/ Current era
Fallout 3
GTA IV
NBA Street Homecourt
Lego Batman
Lego Star Wars: original tirlogy
Godfather
Perfect Dark Zero
Soul Calibur IV
Earth Defense Force 2017
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare

I'm sure i missed a few. And with cheats that list gets a whole lot bigger.

Here's mine, a pretty fair amount considered my gaming time. In no particular order, and I may have also forgotten some of the games I've finished:

  • Mass Effect 2 (PC) - Though I wasn't able to finish all DLC missions -- since they aren't really part of the main game pacakge.
  • Dragon Age: Origins / Dragon Age: Awakening (PC) - If BioWare was to replicate the original Baldur's Gate in terms of ambience, difficulty and such, this IS the game.
  • Just Cause 2 (PC) - Done all missions but one -- that filthy Reapers plane mission.
  • Star Wars Jedi Knight II: Outcast (PC) - Awesome game, I really find this game much much better than The Force Unleashed. Duels are balanced, Force powers aren't exaggerated, and Star Wars feel is there.
  • Star Wars Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy (PC) - Same as above, though much shorter.
  • WWE Smackdown VS. Raw (PS2, on-rent) - Finished the Raw and Smackdown storylines.
  • Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic (PC) - BioWare is so much <3 when it comes to RPGs. And this is still the best Star Wars game ever. Story's time line is set way, way off the movies allowing more freedom to screw around the story without affecting the six Star Wars films. Finished it in less than two weeks I guess.
  • Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic II: The Sith Lords (PC) - More of KoTOR is good. Also got it finished for less than two weeks. I am still hoping for the restoration project that would bring back the cut content from the game.
  • Batman: Arkham Asylum (PC) - Never thought this game would be great honestly. Pretty addictive, superb graphics, ambience and voice acting. Combat is smooth.
  • Mass Effect (PC) - Finished in two months I guess.
  • Max Payne and Max Payne 2 (PC) - Never really a shooter-gamer, but these two games really make me play the genre. Took more time to finish MP2 because of the Mona Sax levels.
  • Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time (Nintendo 64) - I got this done in less than a month -- that is without upgrading all stats to 100% but I think I got a fair amount of hearts before finishing Ganon off. And the Golden Spiders too, wasn't able to collect them all.
  • Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask (Nintendo 64) - This one's a lot more tougher than OoT. The quests leave you almost clueless and no idea how to finish it (especially that Couple's Mask quest).
  • Super Mario 64 (Nintendo 64) - One of the best Mario games made, hands down. I think I wasn't able to collect all 120 Power Stars though.
  • Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga (Gameboy Advance) - This too is , also -- I hate the water levels.
  • Hitman 2: Silent Assassin, Hitman: Contracts (PC) - I am not a fan of Altair. These games got a lot of replay value in terms of how you finish the missions. I would do a playthrough with a Silent Assassin rating, then I'd search for other ways on how to finish a mission. Doing so would took me too long to finish these games.
  • Metal Gear: Solid, Metal Gear Solid 2: Substance (PC) -, though the cutscenes are still meh. Also, I hate the water levels. Shame they didn't release Snake Eater and Guns of the Patriots in the PC. But they will release Rising (isn't a stealth game) on the PC, I believe.
  • Neverwinter Nights (PC) - Not much to say about this but I guess I was able to finish this in less than a month or two. Not fond of replaying BioWare RPG's with a different class.
  • Ultraman (Gameboy) - This was one of the hardest Gameboy games ever released.

That's all I remember at the moment.

Resident Evil 0, 1, 2, 3, Code: Veronica, Dead Aim, REmake, 4, 5 | I like Resident Evil games...
Twisted Metal 1, 2, Black | Twisted Metal 2 was the first game I ever played! (fun fact)
God of War | Took 5 years, but I finally beat it recently. Great game, but a couple of the platforming stages are ridiculous
NBA Street, Vol. 2, V3, Homecourt | Great series
NBA Live 2004, 2005, 08; 2K6, 2K7, 2K9, 2K10 | I've finished seasons and/or simmed championships in these games. Actually won the title while playing most games in 2004, 2005 and 2K6, with Seattle, Denver, Utah and Detroit.
Tony Hawk 1, 2, 3, 4, Underground, underground 2, American Wasteland, Project 8, Proving Ground | I like Tony Hawk games...
Fallout 3 | During the hottest recorded week in Seattle's heat, I was sequestered to the living room. Beat Fallout 3 in its entirely that wonderful week.
Midnight Club 1, 3, LA | MC2 is by far my favorite of the series, but the Tokyo races are ridiculously hard. Fun series though.
GTA: VC, IV | GTA IV took a couple years (gets pretty boring in Alderney), but I loved GTA: VC.
Jet Set Radio Future | I have fond memories of this game from when I was like 10. Beat it again a couple months ago. Still awesome.
Gran Turismo 1 & 2 | Back when GT games didn't have 1000+ hours of gameplay in them

And I'm sure there's more...

Super Mario 64 (for N64 and DS)- On the 64, it took me years, but a few months ago I was able to get all 120 stars.
GTA 3 (PS2)- I wouldn't consider it "completely" finished, but I did pass all the storyline missions.
Smackdown vs. Raw 2006 (for PS2)- Only need Jake "The Snake" Roberts, but I can upload him later from my PSP.
Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban- Yeah, I play Harry Potter games. It's a pretty easy game, shouldn't take more than a week for a slow player.
Mario Party DS- Passed it, next thing you know, my 4 year old brother gets a hold of my DS, and deletes the file!
Mario Kart DS- Takes awhile, but if you're patient enough, you can pass it.
God of War: Chains of Olympus (PSP)
New Super Mario Bros. DS- Pretty frustrating game, but patience (and a lot of it), is needed for this game.
Midnight Club 3 (PSP)- Addicting game imo.

Those are just off the top of my head. Might add more later. :)

Here are the "added" games I said I would add:
GTA Vice City (PS2)- Borrowed it from a friend, took over all the businesses, and passed all the storyline missions.
GTA Liberty City Stories (PSP)- Storyline missions passed, they are very addicting to play.
Ridge Racer 64 (N64)- Pretty hard game, but I unlocked all cars and all races, took me around 4 years, but it's well worth it.
Conker's Bad Fur Day (N64)- Passed the story mode, but my least favorite chapter was Zombies. You can't get me to play that chapter again.

I don't have a PSP, have no need or desire for one and certainly wasn't going to buy one plus a second copy of the game just to unlock one character, so I bought an Action Replay. ;)

CHEATER!!! Jk. Actually, I had no intention of buying a PSP either, but I bought one, can't remember what made me consider getting one. Then, coincidentally, my friend sold me a copy of SD vs. RAW 2006 for PSP for 5 bucks. I haven't unlocked anyone, but I did start a season with John Cena, haven't quite finished it though.

I'm glad they never went that route again. Their unlockables in subsequent games have been much fairer to get.

Really? Last SD vs. Raw game I played was 2007, so I'm not informed on how to open unlockables anymore.

More of the same, but generally speaking you don't have to play through the career/storyline mode a ridiculous amount of times to unlock everything. Shut Your Mouth! on the PS2 comes to mind.

Yeah, one season played and you only find yourself with 2-3 legends, and a few other unlockables. I'd really like to try SD vs RAW 2010, though, I heard you can create your own storylines. I'm not really a fan of WWE's real life storylines (one reason I stopped watching), so that would be a good few hours of addiction.

Diablo 1 & 2 plus expansions
The Thing
Various NBA Lives - especially 2001, notable because I finished Franchise mode (25 years?) using two teams - Warriors and Grizzlies. iirc I had the Grizzlies first, winning the championship 4 years in a row and 9 consecutive Finals appearances. First few years of that Grizzlies franchise was hell. I think I got Tim Duncan to build upon and Kobe followed soon after. Got bored and switched to the Warriors. Had them win a 2peat and 3 Finals appearances.
Spider-man - cool game that was also in the PS.
Oni
Command & Conquer (first one, Tiberian Sun, & Generals), Red Alert 1 & 2 - even the expansion packs. I basically stopped buying C&C games when EA acquired Westwood. Generals the only exception because my brother already has it, none of my monies spent.
Starcraft, Brood War expansion
Warcraft 2 & 3. Except for the Frozen Throne expansion.
Gravity Bone - last PC game completed recently. Real short.
Plants vs. Zombies
Left 4 Dead - no ending really but got to finish all levels without me dying, can't say the same for my teammates. :proud:
Battle Realms
Rainbox Six Rogue Spear

NES/Famicom
Super Mario Brothers 1-3
TMNT 1 & 2
Legend of Kage (lol)
Battle City - 256 levels then the level design repeats again but the enemy tanks are more faster
Megaman (yeah, all of it)
Double Dragon 2 - "Best, beatemup, ever" - ditto. (Y)
Airwolf (game from the TV series)
Batman (based from the 1st movie)
Contra 1 & 2
Punch Out
Road Fighter - racer, had good times with it. I think it's available for mobile phones now.
X-Men - that hard as shite game w/the horrible ending. Thank you for playing.
...and some other games I can't remember because the titles are in Japanese.

SNES, Genesis/MegaDrive
MK 1and 2, SF2
Streets of Rage
Sonic 1 & 2
Lakers vs. Celtics, NBA Jam
Alien Soldier - one of the best if not the best and eye-catching side scrolling shooter for the Genesis. You control a space chicken that shoots baddies!
Desert Strike, Jungle Strike
Spider-man Maximum Carnage and its sequel Separation Anxiety
X-Men 2 Clone Wars
Batman (based from the 1st movie) - awesome I say.
Dragon Ball 1, 2, & 3 fighting games.
Punch Out
Final Fantasy 3
Chrono Trigger

Metal Gear Solid (PS)
Pokemon Yellow  (Gameboy)

There's a lot more but that's all for now that I can remember.

It doesn't apply to this title but for me, that's sometimes proven to be another "you're getting older" moment; when a game that you remember when it was new and demanding a pretty good PC to play becomes a downloadable game for a mobile, even if it is a stripped down version.
