Discussion about NBA Live 2004.

I donno about y'all, but I feel there are maaaaaany things that have came and left in the NBA Live franchise, from Genesis, to PS1, to PC, to PS2. Can you all name everything that you miss from previous years that you wish was still there and/or wish could come back?
I know I will forget some, but here's mine....
-PC - Saved Games!!!
-PC - Save instant replays, either in .mov or either just to be viewed when the game is open
-PS1/PC - Select what dunk u want to do. Now it's just a lob button...y would they take options from u? This would be better than the dunk button to me, just because it took a long time to get used to the dunk button.
-No look passes, behind the back passes, all of that..they barely do it! I can't even feel the "Magic" when I play with the 80s because Magic just does all regular passes!
-PC and PS1 - Make custom teams. I loved doin that, whether for just exhibition games, or to play a season with. Even tho it's basically possible on PC, you used to be able to do it on PS1, choosin the logo and all.
-3 Point contest - I don't know why it ever left. They could keep the exact same format and it would still be tite.
-Genesis - 2 on 2 and 3 on 3. Now I am sure I am not the only one who said this....when 97 came out with this, me and all of my friends were like "this is cool but they should have a one on one!!!" and they brought one on one and we loved it. But I still wish they had 2 on 2 and 3 on three, it would be tite havin it on a new version of the game.
-Signature moves - Well, this may have been more less the Bulls vs. Lakers and NBA Showdown era, but I still think it would be tite for certain players on Live to have their signature moves that ONLY they do.
-Jazz on the soundtrack - I don't know if you all like Jazz as much as I do, but even if I don't get the same "hell yeah!" feelin from a Jazz song as I do from a rap song, I know that hearin these rap songs they choose for the sdtks annoy the hell outta me after hearin em too many times, even though they are tite when I first play it. I wish they kept the original soundtrack, as well as having some rap songs. And PLEASE don't think I have anything against rap because I produce rap and like rap the most, but when u hear a rap song over and over, u get extremely tired of it.

The ability to save during a game, custom teams and some of the roster management features (specifically trading for an empty roster spot, the ability to completely restore rosters to default, the ability to disable automatic roster re-ordering and the ability to change headshapes in Create-a-Player).

Live 2000 gameplay....

The only one on your list there I would really be interested in is the ability to save games at any time...
Save instant replays for me is not really important... but if I really wanted to I could just hit F12 a heap of times during the replay and string them together into an animated gif.. there you go.. saved replay..
Makeing custom teams has always been possible on the PC version of the game since NBA Live 2000.. it is just that it is too hard for most people to do..
3 point contest is now a free game for download on the EA Sports website... though I wouldn't mind seeing it back in the game so I can use my favorite NBA players.. but it is not a big deal..
The soundtrack you can change to whatever you like on the PC version.. so that doesn't worry me..
Signature moves are in NBA live... certain players do certain dunks and crosovers etc... they could expand on this.. but most people don't really notice them anyway..
anyway.. another thing I would like to see them "bring back" is the graphs they had in NBA Live 2001 for player progress... or even any player progress at all.. (it is totally gone in 2004
) ... it makes your dynasty more enjoyable when you can see how your players are progressing.. and the graphs in 2001 were good cause you could see at a glance how a player was doing in certain areas.. I think it was a bit silly of EA Sports to include training in NBA Live 2004 but leave out player progress.. its too hard to see how effective your training strategy is over the years..
Another thing I hope they change for 2005.. is to "bring back" the way the roster is displayed on the re-order roster screen. In 2004 it is too hard to move your players to the inj slots etc.. having to scroll up and down the list... make it all on one screen like it used to be..
... thanks..

- I REALLY miss a UI for PC Users
- I also miss the way players stats were displayed in Live 2000. At last in 2000 you could see in which teams the players was
- I also miss the real seasons stats for the seasons you've played in franchise mode. In Live 2004 once a season is over, the game replaces the real stats by simulated ones. Is EA convinced that we are dumb people ?

-In Live 98 on PC, you could create a custom team, doing it a LOT easier from how you have to do it now. It was an option in the game, you didn't have to open databases to do it.
-I can already tell u play PC...I do both, I play PS2 for when people are over. And it was just a lot of fun havin that on console
-Yeah I forgot about the graphs, that is somethin they need to bring back

What's a UI?
Wow, how do they replace the real stats by simulated ones in Franchise? I haven't really got into a franchise past the second year, I haven't finished a 2nd year yet, but I never peeped the stats from the previous season.

Also, I don't know if it annoys you all, but I like watchin instant replays, especially on buzzer beaters. But now, if the other team calls a timeout, or if it is the end of a quarter, you can't see the instant replay! When I play on console, it's nothin better (or worse if u lose) than beatin somebody at the buzzer and then showin the instant replay to make em even more mad.

Saving in game is lame, just for cheaters and lameasses

m halftime save would maybe be ok though.
Anway I miss to play 1on1 in sunlight, 3pt would be nice to have back, Customteams, that's about what I can come up with now

Saving is just for cheaters and lameasses? How about people who have to go to class or work, people who have a roomate or family member who has to use the computer and can't wait for u to finish the game, when u only have 5 minutes left after playin 7 min or more quarters? I admit, back in 98 I may have used it to cheat a few times, but it is a 10000 ways to cheat on there anyway, so saving a game wasn't the only way at all.

Aight I agree on your there, but there should be a limit, maybe just one save a game and only one load oppurtunity, but it the end it's yourself that decided if you wanna cheat or not, but it's very tempting to do it, if it can be done so easy.

I miss the career stats displays for each player...They also showed the teams the player played for.

Single player game design should not be affected by anyone's lack of self control...

no, there's no point in doing that. there are far better ways to cheat, and the in game save is mostly for people who'd love to do 12 min quarters but don't really have the time (like me

that's why i'm forced to play 3 min quarters)
and last but not least, most of people are mature enough to play without cheating, and after all, if they wanna cheat, well, let themselves do it

Hey R-Tistic, not sure if you do this or not but I'm just responding to your comment. When someone wants to use my PC and I'm in the middle of a game I just pause it, hit the windows key and it minimizes to the task bar and then they can browse the net or whatever. Then just click on Live on the task bar and it reopens right where you left off.
But sticking with the topic I did like it before when you could save a replay as a video file and the threepoint contest. Also the 2on2/3on3 on Live '98 on Genesis was cool too

I miss Direct X 8.1 and Anisotropic Filtering, live 2003 looked so good at MAX. The beach court. Epic best of 3 battles online when there was the REMATCH option. I still play with alot of the same guys i played with last year but because of the way EASO runs its just not the same
Wed Feb 18, 2004 10:34 pm
things I want back in da game
+commentary recognizing common last names
+custom teams
+changing teams to a different division
+3pt shootout
+player progress charts
+player/rookie of the week
+players comming in and out of the game BETWEEN the two freethows, not after
+being able to see the most stats on screen (2000), not scrolling for them
+flowing animations, without those stupid pauses that wreck gameplay
+most improved and 6th man awards to actually mean something
+2000 UI
Wed Feb 18, 2004 10:57 pm
yeah i miss all of those mentioned above... but the thing i miss the most in NBA Live are those sexy cheerleaders dancing at halftime... it may always be the same movie for the division but i miss them yeah!!!

i may be able to fix that for u
i miss 3pt contest, most of the features from live 2000 like create a team (god would that help me), and those graphs in franchise like people are talkin bout, i loved those. they had em in live 98, but every single player got better, and one player in the league got worse lol, least thats what happened for me.

i thought the menu screens in 98' were the best, also the reorder roster screen grouped the stats when uscrolled through the team i.e. stealing, blocking, quickness, defensive awarness were next to each other as they were the defensive ratings.......
i also thought the msuic in 98 was better, i love rap but listening to the same song 100's of times does your head in, where as an instrumental tends not to.....
can you also remember in the old lives thatwhen u pressed R2 the player would to a angled quick step on the move that allowed you to blow by defenders, bring it back!!!!!!

I miss the clutch rating.

i miss the 'fake' control... it allows you to fake your pass/shot

I miss:
The ability to push a player and sometimes knock him down
The fake pass move
The cheerleaders
Computer controlled ISO play where the player does his thing
Intentional foul working anytime
Sun Feb 22, 2004 10:05 am
Yeah indeed the half-time show that was fun!
And when teams don't agree with your deal they say : "Feels to weak at center". just as it was in live 2000.

-I miss the old skool sountracks (good music)

-If you all can remeber from live 96' i think they had a 1-on-1 point game where you would play for a certain amout of time or points making shots as quickly as possible
Dunks and 2 pointers- would count as 1
3's- count as 2 (it was very fun)
- what about the challenge mj 1-on-1 mode in 2000!
Yup well those are the gooden days hopefully I can get hired at EA and bring back the glory!
