I don't like the Celtics, but it definitely is interesting news for the rest of the league. I reckon he should go to the Clippers (y)

Him opting out doesn't mean him going out of the Celtics, well I think. Just like Nowitzki is right now. I think they want a longer term with their teams that they are opting out.

Honestly, it's bit surprising. I have to guess that either he wants a better shot at the championship or he's thinking he can get nearly as good of a contract that can compensate 21 million that is due next season from this crazy market with tons of money available. Or perhaps he's willing to take a cut in the salary for the Celtics, but I am thinking that's least likely with Paul Pierce.

Especially considering with the new CBA looming, considering that they don't know how will it change all things (e.g. any change to max contract, losing MLE etc.). Same goes for Anthony's extension.

Guess that answers the question posed in this thread.

To echo my posts in that thread, I expect he'll end up negotiating a new deal with the Celtics, perhaps even taking a paycut to help them re-tool or accepting a frontloaded deal so he's paid handsomely now but his contract isn't a burden in two or three years time. Perhaps he'll listen to what other teams have to say but when it's all said and done, I think he'll remain in Boston.

all the players that can get a new deal will this off season. no one knows what will be up next year so they wanna secure their long term deal now before the prices drop. i wish he would take a pay cut to let the celtics get some more talent but that is not gonna happen.

I cant imagine Pierce playing for another team rather than the Celtics. Just like what Andrew and the others have already mentioned, I think he's doing this in order to negotiate a new deal with the Celtics but we have to wait and see how it all turns out and why.
