I'm sitting here watching nba tv and i've seen some strange and surprising picks by teams in past drafts. First of all, in the early 2000's the boston celtics drafted Joe Johnson! They had Paul Pierce and Joe Johnson on the same team! I couldn't believe it, and in the Lebron James draft, the guys were saying some crazy things about who the number two pick should be. They were saying that the number two pick should Darko Millicic, is that crazy or what? He must have had something coming out of Europe, because i don't know anything about the guy, but i do know this, that he never became a star, and they wanted him to be number two? And as long as i have kept up with the cleveland cavaliers, i did not know that in one of the drafts that they drafted Brendon Haywood, i couldn't believe it, how did they let him go? Or why?

Lol 10 nope, more like 37, its just that i did start getting in the nba until the 2006 season. And by the way, washington also drafted in the 2003 season a player named Jonas Hayes who is Jarvis Hayes twin brother, i don't know what happend to him guess its time to do some research.

I just can't believe what got us to believe he was worth 2nd overall pick. The guy was a total stupid. Having him watched closely while the team was in Vancouver, I hated every bit of his game. He only has hop, and that was it. The fucker couldn't D or do anything on Offense. I just remember being so frustrated to watch him and waiting for any signs of development.

He could block shots too, but he certainly never lived up to the hype. One of those players that was great in video games being a big man you could dump it inside to and he usually had a decent development attribute allowing you to turn him into a real beast, but no such luck for his real life counterpart.

Sort of hard for me to believe players like Kwame Brown or 'Kandi were first overall picks. I just hope this draft isn't overhyped, and that it comes out strong, just like the '09 draft class.

dude, he hurt his knee. Calling him a bust not even a year after he's drafted is one of the most idiotic things you could say. I hope you're not surprised when Griffin and Evan Turner are neck-and-neck for the Rookie of the Year next season.

My thing on being a bust in the NBA is related to the amount of time you play. I'd say you give a player three years to find is way in the NBA. If you're still a bum after three years then this may not be the place for you, but there are ways of avoiding the bust tag that don't include serious-ish injuries (Griffin/Oden).

If a guy drafted in the top five is just brutal for three years and then he's out of the league, yes, he's a bust. On the other hand, if a guy is drafted high and doesn't end up playing up to his draft position (ie: Joe Smith) than you can't really call him a bust, more of a disappointing player. If a guy sticks around the NBA for 8-10 years and has some sort of impact on his teams then that's really a success in itself. Not the ultimate success both the player and the team(s) expected, but a sort of NBA success that hundreds of D-League guys dream of having everyday.

I bet you could find 31 other teams in the NBA who would LOVE to have a back-up center of his caliber; not to mention the one that drafted him.

The 2000 draft sucks because of lack of stars but was a bump in the road considering the 1996-200x onslaught of talent. But the 1986-1991 draft span (sans maybe 1987) was worse in the context of the league.

you miss my point. the celtics had the 10th 11th and 21st picks in the draft and we got joe johnson (who we let just leave), kendrick brown (fuck you), and joseph Forte (again fuck you). johnson was the right pick and we should have kept him. but those next 2 could have been so much better. parker and jefferson? parker and haywood? maybe arenas(nah i dont want him). tinsley maybe? anything but damn brown and forte.

I'd tend to agree with that. Just to add to that, a player isn't automatically a bust just because a player selected after him enjoyed more success. Sam Perkins was taken before Charles Barkley and John Stockton in 1984 and while they'll go down in history as more significant players, that doesn't make Big Smooth a bust because he had a long and respectable career in his own right.
