I think Bynum not playing in the same frontcourt as Pau has an effect on this. When the two players play together, Bynum's play suffers because he doesn't have the ball as much. Pau's numbers don't drop as much but they do because he has to share the rock with Bynum.

However, you put up a very convincing argument.

But I still prefer Bynum and his dodgy knees over Bosh. Bynum's physical presence and ability to shore up the defence. I'm just not convinced that Bosh would be a better fit.

I think there's definitely got to be an element of "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" here and while you've got to be intrigued by the possibility of adding Bosh if you're the Lakers, it seems like overkill and a potential headache in maintaining an established pecking order. Granted, they basically swapped Ariza for Artest this year when they were fresh off a championship, but Ariza clearly desired a bigger role while Artest was willing to make a few sacrifices and since they're back in the Finals, I think it's safe to say the change hasn't hurt them too much. That's not to say bringing Bosh in would ruin everything, but I don't think it's necessary and carries a certain element of risk when the team they've got is capable of contending at the very least.

I still thought it was a bad move by Ariza. He was a great fit as starting SF for Lakers, better than Artest IMHO. He was a nice 4th option on the court offensively & got into the passing lanes on D.

I suppose everyone who aspires to make the NBA dreams of being a star and not "just" a role player, although obviously only a select few can be the former and the rest accept being the latter. Ariza had the experience of being part of a top team and winning a championship, so I guess he wanted to try spreading his wings and pursuing individual goals.

Say that Fisher wins ring number 5, should it be retired? On any other team, maybe he would be able to. He's been a sarting PG on all championship sides. It was argued that Horry's number didn't get retired but Horry won 3 rings with LA, not all 7 of his. The also bring up Byron Scott. And he won 3 rings with the Lakers. Fisher still could have 2 more rings.

So if Fisher wins a 5th ring this postseason, do you think he is worthy of having his number retired?

One of stupidest things I've ever heard in my life. Lakers are more likely to retire Jack Nicholson's honorary number before Derek bloody Fisher. Guy sucks. Can't think of a worst starting PG in the league. Steve Kerr could go out there & get it done on open jumpers, but better.

I don't know about that, he has a tendency to make big shots and is pretty adept at drawing fouls, particularly charges. But retiring his number seems a little much.
