Question about NBA Elite if Jordan is on 2k

Postby wabenne on Tue Jun 01, 2010 6:03 am

My question is if Jordan is going to be on 2k's cover and in the game then does that mean he wouldn't be able to be in lives game to. I mean because how in the world do we compete with that. Yes I love live over 2k all day I think the gameplay is much better but man if they pull that off and then we can't get him I would still get live but for the first time I would have to buy 2k also because come on if you grew up watching Jordan who doesn't want to relive his greatness through the game...I just think live would suffer a major blow

Even if we got retired players and hall of famers to know that 2k has the great one would be terrible. So again if 2k has him in the game does that mean that we cant

I honestly don't care. . .It would be nice, but what's the point of using Jordan unless it's on a 90's all star team

Yea that is what I'm talking about using him in a 90's legends things I remember live u to have 60's, 70's, 80', 90,'s legends I mean no one could deny how fun that was getting to play with players that we grew up on or that we heard about. I mean Jordan is the greatest there is no matching 2k on this one the best bet we have is being able to get him and other legends in our game to.

I mean the truth of the matter is the live brand has taken a backseat to 2k over the years even though I prefer live's gameplay over 2k... It just seems like they are always coming up with marketing ideas and implementing things in there game that over shadow our game. If live continues to allow this to happen it could damage the brand so much that live ends up dead lol no pun intended, ok I guess there was pun intended lol.

But like I said man Jordan in any game makes it better rather you played with him in the legends game, rather u created a team and relived the old bulls with him on it, rather u put him on a team that is currently playing so that he goes up against kobe, lebron, and wade I mean its just a dream come true. We won't see Lebron ever play jordan in real life so at least it seems 2k is going to let u see it via the game, just not understanding live right now. We are the foundation of great basketball gaming yet we taking a back seat to every big announcement. Its like who will care about our cover now basically I just hope we get him in our game but don't know if we can if he signs with 2k

It would depend on his deal with 2K. It wouldn't surprise me greatly if it were an exclusive deal which would prohibit him from appearing in NBA Elite but if not, hopefully EA can secure his likeness rights as well.

But Andrew how do you feel as far as if 2k got Jordan not only on the cover but also in the game do you feel like that puts live almost automatically under 2k because I mean it seems like 2k is always making the Big Ones if you know what I mean.

I guess you could argue that, I think if they've got Jordan in the game along with former teammates and opponents for the purpose of recreating classic match-ups as rumoured, then they've certainly got some great extra/bonus content lined up this year. However, it comes down to the core experience: gameplay, Dynasty/Association and online features. Michael Jordan is my favourite all-time player, as I said I'd love to see him in Live/Elite and if 2K has him in the game and on the cover then that's big news that's caught my attention (I'll be picking up both games again this year), but I don't think that's the key to Elite being successful and competitive with 2K.

thanks Andrew, and I do agree with you the only thing i'm thinking is both live and 2k can make improvements but both have good gameplays I guess its about who's you prefer. How i'm looking at it is that regardless of which game a person prefers we agree that Jordan adds a whole knew experience to the game. With that said it just catches me by suprise sometimes that 2k keeps coming up with the big stuff while live wich was once the leading game seems to always be a step slow and not providing that big bang. For Example the games come out about the same time yet 2k starts releasing pivital information to the game now and I'm sure with more to come while Live only follows with a name change to the game where real live gamers are going to kind of question that. Not that live won't still be great but sometimes I feel like they don't understand how really the live brand is be threaten by the 2k consistency and I don't want to see live die out cause i'm just not comfortable or familiar with 2k

They'd have to be pretty dense since 2K has been outselling Live every year for over half a decade at this point.

No reason not to think the 2K deal is exclusive. It wouldn't make much sense for the exact reasons you mentioned.

Also, don't tie yourself to a brand, company or series. Or use "our game" for something you're just a fan of. It's not a cult or a tribe, it's a video game of a sport.

2K hasn't officially released any info about NBA 2K11. The Michael Jordan report leaked from a 'source/s' and reported by ESPN.
Even last year 2K was 'late' compared to EA in releasing info about NBA 2K10 outside of the Draft Combine.

They've said they'll be showing at E3 this year unlike last year however. (There's still two weeks for that to change though!)
