TNT's David Aldridge confirms Mike Brown has been fired

Postby Modifly on Mon May 24, 2010 9:03 pm

TNT's David Aldridge confirms Mike Brown has been fired as coach of the Cleveland Cavaliers.

No official source or article just yet, but this was up as a "Breaking News" banner over at NBA.com.

So if this is true (which it likely is), what are your thoughts? My opinion on this is that it is a good move by the Cavs organisation. I think they have given Brown plenty of opportunities. He (or you could say LeBron) led the Cavs to one NBA final appearance only to be sweep by the Spurs. The Cavs had good records under his reign, but without LeBron James on the team, what would the Cavs be like under Mike Brown alone? I'm curious.

That's kind of... expected for me.
Cavs showed that they have reached a top with this coach, wich is definetely not the NBA championship title.
They need a great refresh,a new start, and build from the begining , either with LeBron,or with a new superstar they will sign. And the hire of a new coach is just the best first step for me.
It's like the case of woodson here IMO.A great team, who can't win a title ,and the coach is a reason about it.

I think everyone saw it coming. I guess now it just remains to be seen whether this is the move that allows the Cavs to bring in Calipari, appease LeBron and keep him in Cleveland, or whether Brown is simply one of the casualties in the transition to a new, gloomier era.

So that means Scott Brooks is next if Thunder fail to move past the first round next year.

I have just one question, why would the Cavs use a backdoor deal and sign Big Z back, if you never put him in to play a single minute in the playoffs? :?

this makes me feel better about Kuester being the Pistons coach. I mean, Clev really kind of had a football mentality with an offensive and defensive coach during the Brown years. I think Brown was a product of LeBron in a way, but he should land on his feet somewhere.

So by "not playing" you guys mean playing 69 minutes in 7 games including 14 and 15 minutes in games five and six of the Boston series, right?

Yeah, practically when they were already gone, and that's around 10 minutes a game, not much playing time is that?

Considering he was behind two players at the position and isn't exactly an All-Star anymore I don't see anything odd or confusing about it.

Well, there isn't anything odd about it if two other players were above him. But to use him as bait for the Wizards in order to get Jamison and then snuggle him back into the team and only play him 10 minutes a game, really I would only do that if a player was valuable to the team, and by that I mean contribute well in, say 15-20 minutes a game, maybe more.

The Wizards wanted his expiring contract, they didn't want to play him, and Ilgauskas has played his entire career for the Cavaliers so there was sentimental factor in bringing him back hoping they'd win a title. And if he proved useful as a third center, so much the better. Besides he was already familiar with the team and system. They paid him the minimum so it wasn't some kind of crazy financial burden.

Damage control. Now you have to find a coach that knows how to win a championship.
