Watch out for superb 'free agents' at start of each season!!

Postby Mikelaker on Tue Jan 13, 2004 10:28 pm

Friends,

thanks for all your advice before and I finished my first season eventually. Got the world champ in 5 games. Then Horace Grant retired (which I can't control) and have traded Karl and Gary and Fisher and George for Doug Christie and Lebron (yes the Cav agreed out of my surprise!)... In fact my plan was to have stronger shooter like christie as starting with Kobe, and point guard putting Pargo who is performing extraordinarily well last season...the surprising getting of Lebron gives me a strong point guard for next season :)

And, while I just casually browse through the free agents, surprisingly found MarBury and Penny being released by the Suns and having 'MINIMUM' points required!! Don't know why .... maybe the simulated Suns management want to clear up caps for other strong free agents but still sounds very weird to me... I then (of course!!) signed both of them!
Playing first game of 2nd season, Marbury is still strong but I utilize it to trade for Yao Ming. Penny becomes a backup SG.

Why Yao? Well, I got LeBron already and Yao is first draft pick which in this game means 'high development potential'... this rating is meaning a lot when I gradually realized that these players (Yao and Lebron) can IMPROVE A WHOLE LOT when I keep on spending 800 points for 'individual training' for consecutive 3-4 times.... Up till now Yao can score 18-25 ppg and much faster actions c/w rookie year, Lebron improves speed by 4 points and 28-30 ppg plus 5-8 apg.

But NB that such 'great value' free agents occur randomly and when I try reloading game from end of season 1 and do all the trading again, then find out Marbury and Penny were still at Suns and not released....

So, 'watch out for good value freeagents' all the time!!

Enjoy NBALive

Maybe ... but it matters how realistic you wanna be. As for me I see no point in trading so long until I get the desired superstar. You can have that a lot easier by simply changing rosters before season. Finding some quality free agents at the minimum is common. Everytime I have simmed my Hornetsdynasty through the first year Kenyon Martin was a free agent ... not at the minimum and I was never able to sign him, but still he is a free agent.

I for one try to go with the team I have (although I am using the uninjured roster) and if there is a need, I'll try to improve it. But not through tradin for a superstar, but for some quality backups.

Well that post was maybe slightly off topic ... but anyway :).

It's annoying, guys like Kobe Bryant and Vince Carter end their careers w/out playing for a team for 5 years because of the FA bug. They'll just sit in free agency unsigned.

However the CPU signs some during the season (not all) and they can get EVERY one for Minimum, and you still have to pay max. It might be fair if you could play minimum as well, if you wanted to do that. Because i'm a realist and just seeing guys like that go to waste ticks me off.

This is a problem in Dynasty Mode that can work to your advantage. It's also been present in Franchise Mode since NBA Live 2000. I haven't seen too much of it when I've simulated Dynasties - it's not as bad as last year.

Agree that it's not realistic at all being able to sign Penny plus Stephon at min during offseason....

I always don't trade players in my past years of LIVE from 96 and even swab players according to nba.com latest rosters :)
But I gradually notice that the essence of playing the 'dynasty mode' after 70 plus unsimulated game in my first season.... the game provides me enjoyment on court in a game as well as nba management, which should be of great fun and with lots of unexpectations every day or so... you gone crazy with pippen when released from da bulls when that stupxd manager tries to 'rebuild' and you get payton and karl all in same year as a plus to kobe and shaq...this sort... pretty 'realistic' 'unexpected' things happen....

So, after some thoughts, I allow myself buying these 2 guys, yet keeping my mind of building a better team by trading guys out ... particularly I will let go big stars with only 1 year left and still have trading value... like george, fisher, payton etc., and keeping in mind training up guys like 'Pargo' (who I like his dribble) and 'Rush' (who I like his dunking)...

:)

Anyway, there should be various ways people enjoying THEIR OWN NBALIVE and hope everybody gets the best way of fun out of hours of playing...

enjoy NBALIVE

I was playing my Nuggets Dynasty and during one offseason I think Mashburn was a free agent and his salary was like $7 million and he went unsigned for like the first month of the season because no one had the salary to sign him then finally I made some trades and was able to sign and trade him

Oh yeah, great you got Mashburn!

I have second experience by starting with Bulls as my second dynasty game. After 1st season, there exist Nash and Penny in free agents pool and they are released by their team for unknown reason! Just the same as my Laker dynasty experience, that Penny and Stephone were released from Suns and can be signed with minimum!

This time, I didnt' sign both of them; I've invested quite a lot points on training Jay Williams and he's quite good now, and I have scottie still and don't want to have Penny :)
