Deserving or not, I think most of us picked that one too.

I think he is not the most deserving but he is still deserving of the award. So no big qualms for me. Lamrock is going to die of a heart attack or something though.

It is very satisfying to see a player from the Rockets FINALLY win an NBA award  . 10 years is a long time.

You could definitely make a debate on this one. There are other players like David Lee, Andrew Bogut, Joakim Noah, Andray Blatche, Marc Gasol. Heck even Kendrick Perkins has improved.

Edit: But Big ups to my mans Aaron Brooks. I thought he pretty much proved himself last season though.

What a load of bullcrap. Then again, it's expected from this kind of media voting award.

I love Brooks. I can't wait to see improved Brooks with Yao. I do think they can make a playoffs if yao comes back healthy enough. Good job NBA for picking Brookses.

Horrible selection. He didn't seem to be any better this season than he did last playoffs (N)

Actually I could not care less about an award. Usually this is the award for a guy whose teammates get injured and thus sees more minutes -> seems more productive.

I think Benji could tell us who really improved, most of these guys I guarantee were not even in the race for MIP.

True. Brooks being the first option played a big part.

But he did step up his game, and his scoring nearly double from 11 to 20. His other stats improved and the team didn't do that bad considering the expectations they had before the season started.

Even if somebody else won, I think we'd be hearing the same thing on whom really improved or not.

No we wouldnt, didnt benji post the stats for this in the awards thread? Improvement doesnt mean crap if you went from a 4th option to a #1. It also doesnt mean crap if your minutes doubled. Naturally, your stats will be better if you play more. Does it mean you improved? I don't think so. I think it should be guys who got better and played a similar number of minutes from the year before (Bogut/Durant).

If Aaron Brooks was that good, they'd be in the playoffs.

Rofl... Not gonna argue with that, but there's no doubt he improved. Also this is an individual award, so I have no problem with it.

I think Brooks did improve, but then again this is a biased opinion (I guess) since he's on my favorite team. I agree that he didn't show the best improvement though, I think it should have gone to Kevin Durant or Bogut.

To be fair, it doesn't necessarily mean a player hasn't also improved, earning him the playing time and then being able to do something with it. That's difficult to prove either way of course, I do agree with what you're saying and that it does overrate certain candidates.

This. (Y)

And this is largely why he won the award, despite a majority of you guys here saying that it's only because his minutes were doubled.

This season Brooks set career highs in points (19.6 points per game), assists (5.3 apg) and rebounds (2.6 rpg). His 8.4 ppg scoring increase from last season (11.2 ppg) was the highest in the league among minimum qualifiers. Brooks became only the sixth player in NBA history to make at least 200 3-pointers and dish out at least 400 assists in the same season. He set the Rockets' single-season record for 3-pointers made with 209. The 6-foot guard scored 20 or more points 39 times and at least 30 points on 10 occasions.

OK, his minutes were doubled, but he did improved. Give him some credits.

Benji analyzed it in the other thread. HIs improvement wasnt enough to say he was the MOST improved. Its the name of the award. Not taking away any improvements he did make. Good for him, but that doesnt make him the most improved. Bogut suddenly becoming a force and Durant becoming a scorer only rivaled by Lebron showed much greater improvement than Brooks who went from inconsistent but solid when he had a good night, to Above average and consistent.

I dont disagree with anything you said at all, matter of fact I did mention in the other thread that Brooks is not the most deserving player for the award, nevertheless he still deserves it in a way. What you said are all correct and I completely agree with you, but as we all know, the NBA doesn't hand out the award to the most deserving guy all the time. ;) Now that they've decided to give it to Brooks, the least we can do is give him some credits instead of saying "terrible" and the like. ;)

Brooks won the award during last year's playoffs. It was his to lose, all he had to do was to be at least consistent all season, which he did.
