Blockbuster? I love that we're bringing him back, though he's making about twice as much as I thought he would. All of the team's centers are injury prone, but we have 3 of them, who are all starting caliber.
It's a bit more than I'd have expected them to shell out, but seems like a good move to me. Ideally Oden will be back and showing the same form he was before he went down, all the while continuing to improve, but having Camby and Przybilla around as his backups (and yes, insurance policies to a certain extent) is not too shabby at all. Hopefully Oden will remain healthy and shake that unfortunate reputation but even so he still struggles with foul trouble, so having Camby and Przybilla on hand will be a luxury for the Blazers.
Oden and Camby twin tower combo sounds really interesting. Both are great at shot blocking and rebounding. I think many will have trouble against this duo. But it's noteworthy that Camby is 36 years old and will be 38 in the final year of contract.
THX TO DOPE-JAO FOR THE SPECIAL SIG! <3 Enjoy! <3 Jao
Yeah i know. But lets not forget even at age 36 he is easily grabbing over 11 rebounds a game and blocking 2 shots per game.
I dont see that going down much next season. And the season after that he will be a great trading asset with 12.5 million in his final year of the contract about to expire.
That's a good point, even as players decline they seem to regain some value as an expiring contract when the time comes. Even if the Blazers can get one productive year out of Camby and then use him in a shrewd deal moving forward, it'll have been a worthwhile investment.
Me neither, though he's in his fourteenth season so I guess I should've realised he'd be around that age. The last few years seem to have gone by so quickly that guys that were hitting their prime, in their prime or perhaps just slightly past it are suddenly edging ever close to retirement.
