I can see where you're coming from, but that still doesn't prevent him from fairly being labelled a bust if he doesn't pan out. They already had a centre who is a much better talent in Marc Gasol and they passed over far better players in the draft class who could've made a bigger impact right away. Even if they knew what they were doing and what they were getting into, it still seems fair to say that they made the wrong call.

http://www.nba.com/2010/news/features/fran_blinebury/03/24/thabeet.dleague/index.html?ls=iref:nbahpt1

In five games with the Dakota Wizards, Thabeet averaged 15 points, 13 rebounds and 5.6 blocked shots. He had rung up three double-doubles and the Wizards went 4-1 with the NBA big man in the middle.

Yeah, 5.4 bpg is amazing. There's the development.

5.6 blocks a game is amazing by Thabeet, but take into account that those are his D-League stats.

Also take into account that no D-Leaguer has ever averaged more than 3.8 blocks per game.

Although Thabeet didn't average those numbers either, and played six games. http://www.nba.com/dleague/playerfile/i ... em_thabeet
