Practice mode substitution problem

Just encountered a problem recently, with practice mode. I have no idea what I did, but now when I go into practice mode, I start off with the top player on the team, as usual. But when I try to substitute him with another player, the only players available to substitute are the bench players, NONE of the other starters. Anyone else have this problem or know of a way to figure this one out? Thanks.
