Good god. Al Thornton could end up being Washington's first option!

Cavs trading for Jamison

Postby Andrew on Thu Feb 18, 2010 10:05 am

The story will no doubt be updated as more details are made available, but for now here's the rundown:

The Cleveland Cavaliers have reached agreement on a six-player, three-team trade that lands them former All-Star forward Antawn Jamison(notes), league sources with knowledge of the talks told Yahoo! Sports.

The Cavaliers are sending center Zydrunas Ilgauskas and a first-round pick to the Wizards. The Wizards also will receive Brian Skinner and Al Thornton from the Los Angeles Clippers. The Cavaliers will get point guard Sebastian Telfair from the Clippers. The Wizards will send Drew Gooden to the Clippers.

Presumably Ilgauskas will still be released and later re-sign with the Cavs, as was suggested in reports about the Amar'e deal which appears to be dead.

EDIT: Merged with Lamrock's thread, as he got in first.

Wizards have no use for Big Z. Their presumptive starting 5 of Mike James, Randy Foye, Josh Howard, Al Thornton and Javale McGee is epic fail though.

The Clippers will apparently buyout Gooden as well, so perhaps he'll end up back in Dallas.

wow, never thought Wizards would want to give their core to the Cavs, especially since the bad history between them...

If it wasn't the Cavs destroying them in the first round year after year, it would have just been some other team. Its not Cleveland's fault that Deshawn Stevenson is a douchebag.

Blatche should start. he's currently owning the T'wolves

if McGee stays out of foul trouble, he can notch a 10 block game

Man, part of this trade just kills me, Jamison? He's ok but i don't think he's that athletic, i didn't know this trade went through. But i'm glad that cleveland was able to get telfair, because Mo Williams is hurt. And thank goodness, thank goodness, thank goodness! The cavs will get Ilkauskas back, yes! I love that guy! He's been one of the most loyal cavalier players i have ever seen since i've been a fan of the team since 1982 when they were 16-66. If the cavs got Ameri i would say that cleveland would win it all this season, i still have doubts now, but yes Jamison can score at times. I kind of wish that cleveland would have gotten Al Thornton and have cleveland send Jamero Moon to washington instead of the wizards getting Thornton.

Al Thornton is one of the worst players in the NBA. Not so sure about the trade either though, since the Cavs already were on pace to win about 65 games. Plus, they will be stuck with him if LBJ leaves.

Don't bag out on Stevenson.

Also, this is a good deal for the Cavs. Makes the postseason even more interesting now.

They're basically going to only drop off on defense due to the loss of Haywood, but their offense shouldn't suffer from getting rid of Butler and Arenas, indeed it may improve enough just from dumping those two that the losses of Haywood and Jamison won't kill the offense.

Plus more Singleton and Blatche is always a good thing.

Of course, Thornton will take care of this hopefully.

This deal is awesome for the Cavs. They did not even have to give away Hickson. The Z issue is sad but does not hurt them on their run to win a championship imho. Getting Sebastian Telfair is at least a good deal in case of getting some backup guard with Williams being injured and West being a psycho. (Gibson is no real PG imho)

For the Wizards I just hope they can shred Arenas' contract and start from scratch. Thornton won't help them though, but he is a very cheap player. If you manage to rule him in, he can contribute in a way his contract implicates.

For the Clipps it's a nice move since they get rid of Skinner, Telfair (who has a player option) and an inconsistent Thornton --> clearing around 6M$ for the next year. Outlaw will replace Thornton which fits well. And the 1.5M$ Cash they got from the Blazers will help them to buyout Gooden. The Clippers ain't that dumb right now if you ask me. Their next year line up could be pretty good if they just start to sign the right free agents and get back Griffin and maybe another decent player from the draft.

In all likelihood - or so it seems - the Cavs will only be giving up Ilgauskas for 30 days, at which point they'll re-sign him for a considerably smaller amount.

Damn, the Cavs just get good players. Mo Williams they got for basically Damon Jones and now Jamison, who they got for.. nobody, as they re-sign Ilgauskas most likely after 30 days. I hate this.

The Wizards are obviously re-building, but they should have asked for Hickson too. At least Blatche can be the regular starter now. 33 and 13 tonight.

With a two point overtime loss to a top 5 team in the league? They probably would have won if they had Zilgauskas.

This deal will get Lebron dancing from the second he's on the floor nonstop up to the end of the game for every home game.

Jamison looking good, wait let me put it much better, excellent, in a Cavs uniform.

0-12 from field, 2 airballs, 5 of his shots blocked.

Just what the Wiz wanted in that trade. Sabotage the Cavs and make sure LeBron fails epically again.
