10k, What to do, What to do....

Mon Feb 08, 2010 5:58 am

I've been mulling over what I would to do for my 10,000th post since I hit 9,000. A lot of ideas and I am glad to say that all of them are going to fall through so I can just get this out of my way.

Idea #1: Retire

I thought seriously about retiring when I first started thinking about 10k. I was on pace to beat Sit to this milestone and was just trying to figure out what I wanted to get and give to this community. Ignorance truly is bliss sometimes especially when it comes to situations like the lack of EA interviews around here, choosing between 2k & Live, and dealing with all these damn trolls when you are an Admin and put yourself out there on Facebook and Youtube.....and yea, really, facebook, fun. So while I had enough of the shitty parts of this "job" I can't get enough of helping people out with their games, attempting and continually failing to make mods that never get past a personal release, and just getting excited for what next year might bring. Basically the good heavily outweighs the bad and everyone can get overwhelmed by the bad parts of anything and want to quit....sticking through shit in the past has made me a better person so why quit when I'm still in a position to fuck with those who wish to fuck with me or the good members of this community?

Idea #2: Get back to Releasing Patches

I was thinking about releasing out all of my personal hoarding piles for both 2k & Live games as a celebration of 10k. NCAA, multiple Street mods, D-League, Generics, Legends, I've done a lot of shit and haven't any of it since SUM/Street 07 or even Street 08. But the problem is that these are not release quality. Everything that gets released here is bitched about in one way or another and the moment I stopped caring about that was when I really started to enjoy basketball games more. Lately it has been just enjoying the NBA Today mode in 2k10 and playing the PS2 versions of MM03 and the Street series. So my heavy patching lifestyle has been subdued to just enjoying the games and being more of an idea man. Whether it be figuring out the 2k file system or helping Vlad out with the latest 2k roster editor, I think I've found a better (healthier) niche than back in 2005-2007.

Idea #3: A 7 Day Party

10,000 minutes more or less equals 1 week. So I was thinking of starting this thread with 9993 posts and doing the great Dynasty Story padding technique of reserving posts for a week to have a different themed post for 7 days. Get a youtube video up on the top with some party music, get a bunch of the similies all in a post, maybe have some internet scavenger hunts that have to do with me and stuff that like. But unfortunately, this lead me to my third realization.....I don't have the time for this shit anymore. I'm not breezing my way through college anymore....I'm working 40 hours, keeping a fiancee happy, trying to keep in shape, and attempting to hold on to my childhood as desperately as I can with video games and sports. I can't say I'm proud of the video game playing but I've tried going without it (completely) before and it drove me fucking nuts with my extra time to watch advertisements, I mean TV, and seeing the same movies over and over....fuck that. Some people drink, some smoke, I have fun listening to music (by playing Rockband) and shooting people/playing sports with a controller. And by not caring that video games are my "vice" I've noticed that the amount of time that I used to devote to playing them has been slowly whithering away to the point where I'm not playing as much as my old high school buddies or people I know from here.

Idea #4: Give props, Thanks to certain people, etc....

I don't want to do this anymore with my milestone posts. When I first started getting involved in this community I thought it was really cool when the first person mentioned me in their milestone post but since I can't remember who that was now I think I should just let this NLSC tradition go. Basically if someone is on my shit list here, they know....cause they are either banned or I've told them that I don't fucking like them. Everyone else, we're on good terms and therefore and included in my props section of this milestone.

Idea #5: List off the things I was going to do for my 10,000th post

Wait....shit.

Basically, thanks to you all and I hope I can continue to help everyone here with their Live/2k PC issues and contribute more good ideas for the forums, main website, patches, and maybe someday I can get a comfortable real life situation where I can start spending time creating and releasing patches for this community. I hope you enjoyed reading my rambles and improvised milestone post....now if you'll excuse me, there is someone in the 2k10 patching issues forum that needs to know how to remove the replay indicator.

Congrats on the milestone! It's been great having you around and member of the NLSC Team.

I'm certainly glad you won't be retiring for some time. Having done this as long as I have, I can certainly relate to those feelings and there have been some times where I've come very close to hanging it up. As you said though, ultimately the good outweighs the bad and as long as we're enjoying ourselves and are proud of the work we're doing - like I said in my 50k thread, I still believe we have a good thing going here - then there's no harm in keeping up what we're doing as long as real life permits.

Completely understand what you're talking about with the patches, though I do hope you'll make a glorious return some day. The negative vibe that permeates the patchmaking community at times is something I've noticed too and is quite unfortunate. Still too many needlessly rude and unhelpful "No good (N)" posts for my liking but then the Internet sometimes seems to run on negativity and cynicism.

The 7 day party idea would've been cool but yeah, more effort than a posting milestone really needs! And I too have resolved to leave shoutouts behind, invariably someone gets left off the list.

So that brings us back to the milestone. Congrats again, I hope you'll be around for a while yet and thanks for everything you've done for the site. Onwards and upwards to 15,000. ;)

Grats on your 10k, ming. The timing couldn't be worse for you though, with Andrew's 50K drawing most attention like Kobe becoming an all time leading scorer for LAL. But still 10k of quality posts shows what kind of an Admin you are. Also on a personal note, it's good to see fellow chubby man reaching such a milestone.

Goodbye everyone, Well since no one here wants to hear people's opinions or views, and you must have to know someone who posts alot well not to be hounded everytime you post...then I will take leave of this place. After the last few weeks or so of posts (and the often aggressively and needlessly snarky comment storm that accompanies several of them), I feel that I must leave this community. Be happy with your commuinty of bitches, since you are the queen of them. this community would be much better if you didnt jump down every persons throat on almost every damn post. i'm out of here. i am not sad about it either.

If it's not a lengthy freestyle flaming your way out of forum and making sure that you burn as many bridges as possible, then I'm sorry but it just won't cut it as a retirement thread.

Hey Jao,
congratz on your 10,000th post!
I would rather see you releasing occasional patch in the future in NBA Live 11 (if it ever comes out on PC), or on NBA 2k10.

Anyways, you've been a great patcher, a great poster and a great moderator, so please don't leave NLSC and keep it up! :D

now that is a terrible thing to remember me for. 3 of the dynasties I started didnt last more than 3 days and a few games where the only one I finished had only 7 games, was completed in I think 3 days, and was just a cover for making another video.

But anyway, thank you Andrew, NovU, Jae, The X, shadowgrin, Jae, Modifly, Oznogrd, Guillaume, Cartar, Lean, Fresh, Thierry., cyanide, Rip32, Pdub, hova-, Eich, & Mark. (hey, that worked well with all the commas and Mark's period)
