Filling the void in your life when a show/season ends..

So my favourite shows in the last year have been Dexter, Ultimate Fighter, Smallville, The Office, Secrets & Lives and The Circuit... in the space of 2 weeks, EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THEM either finished their season or went on that stupid hiatus thing American shows do. This left me with a dilemma, as I had gone from 6 shows I watched religiously to 0 shows, so I set about finding temporary replacements. This is what I found...

Sons Of Anarchy
Amazing show, I nearly turned it off and deleted all the episodes I'd downloaded half way through the first ep (I thought a biker show would be cool so I just downloaded both seasons without watching) but I couldn't get enough of it, finished both seasons in 4 days and got approx 5 hours sleep between them. The next season doesn't start until September (!!!!) but it's worth waiting for. Really well done, brilliant cast.

True Blood
Great storyline and well acted throughout... Sookie is hot as hell and there are plenty of nude scenes to keep everyone entertained, plus main characters die constantly which is pretty entertaining. I'd heard about this ages ago but never checked itout, so I finally did and it's an awesome show. Should be back a lot sooner than stupid SOA.

Paranormal Cops
This show is awesome. A bunch of Chicago cops with weird Italian/NY accents looking for ghosts and shit. The first episode features a morbidly obese Mexican with the voice of a 5 year old girl talking about how scared he is locking up his shop at night, which turns out to be an old mafia hangout where loads of people died. The cool thing is they investigate the locations history and stuff, but it is very unintentionally funny at the same time.

Steven Seagal Lawman
Steven Seagal is a deputy sheriff and this is a COPS style show that follows him around. You don't really need to know anything more.

What shows do you use to fill in time when the ones you usually watch disappear/go on hiatus?

Thankfully I have so many shows backlogged I don't have this problem. I'm already at four weeks and so of some shows, and now a bunch more have restarted in the last two weeks.

Plus I have an endless number of series that I copied DVD's of their entire run and have never gotten to watching.

Haven't bothered to watch The Office since the shitty Christmas episode. Didn't know it hasn't been on. Whatevs. I love to watch series that are great but aren't on any more. I've watched Six Feet Under, Deadwood and right now I'm on to Twin Peaks. Problem is, I usually watch 2 a night, and so I run out quickly. I prefer this to watching an episode a week because I'm not left wanting more.

I usually reach for the DVDs or simply catch a random repeat on Foxtel.

if you have netflix- you should check out the tv series they stream for free. Man vs Food, Anthony Bourdain: no reservations, Mythbusters. just to name a few

I also have a ton of backlogged shows, so I'm still needing to catch up on Dexter, and now recently, Dollhouse. I'd look for hidden gems of shows (i.e. Six Feet Under, Dead Like Me, Arrested Development).

Other than that, I'm watching re-runs of Seinfeld. I hate watching shows twice, but that's the exception. And South Park.

The only recent show I regularly watched that went off the air was the Tonight Show with Conan O'Brien. I can't even stay up past 11:30 PM anymore. There's no reason to. No more Coco

I've seen that show couple times as well, decent enough, but there are some similar shows that have been much better in my opinion. Actually I could suggest you one which was very similar to this, pretty much same setup, 2 guys and a woman, another british sitcom, called Black Books. Even one of the creators was the same.

Along the same vein, I've watched some Fawlty Towers, and I'm looking forward to seeing Are You Being Served?

I prefer the earlier seasons of Are You Being Served?, before the constant cast changes of the later years.

It doesn't matter how many times I watch that show between seasons 1-9, I can always find the episodes hilarious. Which is why I think it's the greatest of all time.

As for shows that left a void after finishing...

Prison Break: I'm glad it ended, but I invested so much time in that show that the way it ended felt like the writers had complete contempt for their audience. Great in seasons 1 and 2 though.

Veronica Mars: Kind of got cut before it was resolved. Not the greatest show I've watched, but it was addictive.

Freaks and Geeks: Amazing show which should have gotten atleast 1 more season. But atleast it ended well.

I spent 4 years watching that show. The whole time it strung me along with all these twists and turns (essentially plot holes), and for what? The ending was so lame... if it tried to prove that mediocrity outlives genius, it made it's point. Stupid Brett Ratner

Michael Scofield dies while T-Bag is allowed to live (albeit in prison). Basically while a good person dies, the other gets to stay alive and make life a living hell for other people.

So yes, I think once I get through all of King of the Hill, there will need to be a void filled there. I still need to see the second season of Breaking Bad... the first one was amazing.

That's not lame, that's life. Not everything has to have a ridiculously happy ending.
