Drunk Driving

Have any of you guys ever done this? An old pal of mine died two days ago from a drunk driving accident and it really bothers me how irresponsible people are. I have had several situations where I've been drunk and though I was invincible, but NEVER have gotten into the driver's seat of a car while being drunk. I haven't even been in a car where the driver was drunk, we just crash at the place we drink at. A few of my friends do it on a regular basis and I tell them to stop so they can avoid a tragedy like this, it seems to me people never learn.

Driven buzzed at 3 AM to perkins (a restaurant open all night with kickass breakfast food) to sober up. It was about 4 blocks with no other cars on the road but my other friends car. We both got there and stepped out and said "holy shit we shouldnt've done that." stayed at perkins till we were sober. We probably could've walked home but *shrug* next time maybe. I havent driven drunk like that since.

Never, not worth the consequences and making the news as another statistic. That said, I'm sure there were quite a few Sundays many years ago now driving home from a friend's place after spending the night there (rather than drinking and driving) while on a provisional license where I probably wouldn't have had a blood alcohol level of absolute zero which is the law for provisional drivers (previously it was .02 as opposed to .05 on a full license) and it's fortunate I didn't get pulled over on those occasions. I was no longer feeling the effects and I definitely wouldn't have been over .05, but that's not really the issue when anything other than a zero is too much on a provisional license.

had some problems in the past but recently landed a new job and was happy because he had recently received his first paycheck.

speed and alcohol played a major role in the tragedy

At least we know what he bought with that first paycheck.

I got a friend who has more than a few too many and drives home all the time. I mean, not too much traffic where he lives but you don't need traffic to screw up. It was tough for me to talk to him about it and pretty much got told off for doing so since I dont drink. So, another statistic waiting to happen :?

Had about 5 mates in New Zealand done for it. Back when I was 18 I would drink, then crash the night then drive home in the morning at 5-6am when nobody was on the road. I wasn't drunk, but looking back I would've been over the limit at least 1/3 of the time I did it. But by the time I was 19 & living away from home I stopped that pretty quickly.

Now I don't drink drive if I'm in doubt. I run by the 2 standard drinks in the first hour, 1 standard drink per hour after that. Since I'm a pretty big guy (110kg) I think I'm fine to ran on that & not be at risk of even being close to being over limit. If I am in doubt on how much I've drunk then I definitely won't drive. Usually if I'm driving these days I might've had no more than a 3-4 standard drinks over a 4 hour period and have eaten and kept myself hydrated.

It's about being smart I guess. It's just not worth the consequences (no I don't mean fines & loss of license, I mean killing somebody else & having to live with the guilt for the rest of you life).

I don't drink and drive more, but I have to admit I used to, but in responsible(?) ways. Once, I was stopped by 2 cops, but luckily let me go. I don't know how I do it, but it seems I have this something to talk out of situations like that. I've never got any tickets from police for that metter, even though my job field was liquor related so there were occasions when I couldn't get home if I didn't drive after drinking.

My friends mate was killed the other week in a pretty horrific accident, it was all over the news (the 5 guys who died, plus the girl that survived) and apparently the driver was way over the legal limit. Plus doing 140+... we drove past the crash site yesterday actually and the tree it hit was sort of down a 5-6 foot embankment, they must've gone flying off it. It's really not worth the risk.

Tough pictures.

I never drank and drive, even under the allowed limit. I would never do it, but I also have to admit that I am not really relying on driving to come home after partying.

^ what does that have to do with anything related to this thread?

I've seen the pictures, i've heard the stories, had friends no longer here and some who are lucky to be here after drunk drivers (about half my competition in wheelchair sports are from drunk driving crashes). I understand all this. But driving 140+ is stupid sober or drunk. Driving 10 miles an hour through family neighborhood at 3 in the morning to get to a restaurant where you can sober up your friends while most likely under the limit but still feeling it isnt NEARLY as bad as driving 140...even in kmh vs mph. Like I said: that one time was it for me and when i realized how stupid it was it was a new view on things. I pass off my keys quite easily nowadays. This summer if i had even 1 drink i'd let coworkers drive us back from town.

I agree with some sentiment here: its not worth risking other peoples lives. You're absolutely right. But to me there are still different degrees of drunk driving. For instance: my 220-230 lb buddy has 2 12 oz regular beers. He's fine as long as he wasnt drinking that high gravity shit. If i have 2 12 oz regular beers (or the alcoholic equivalent in mixed drinks), at my 70 lbs: i absolutely shouldnt have my keys. The problem comes in is everyone's body reacts differently not just to amount of alcohol but type and some people refuse to admit when its hit them.

I can't drive a car. So I won't be drunk driving. You need any more handholding? Then ask your mom.

Do you also wander in to shopping malls and randomly fire a gun, but in a responsible way?

How about before you lash out at him for not understanding your inane ramblings, you actually make yourself coherent?

You've got a lazy eye. Woopity fuckin doo da for you? People with lazy eyes can drive. If you happen to be one of the few morons with a lazy eye, doesn't mean it's self explanatory that you can't drive because of it.

Dumbass.

No, I wouldn't drive drunk, I quit drinking alcohol about two years back so the chances of it happening are not too big.

Horrific indeed, those pictures are awful. Last week I heard a couple of P-platers were picked up with each doing at least 130+, one alleged to be three times over the limit and the other four. They might not see it now but it's damn lucky they did get picked up, they'll have lost their license for at least a year but it quite possibly saved their lives.

I don't drink and drive, but I always get as high as possible and then drive as fast as possible on the highway. Makes me an infinitely better driver.

Whoops, confused myself with Indy again.
