Chapter #1 - First dispute

What's up everybody? It's Michael 'no nickname' Parmer here. Playing in the NBA is amazing. I have been fortunate so far. I have been given the chance to play and play for many minutes here in Memphis. My teammates are all great and fun to hang out with, although with one exception (read below). After my 6th D-League game, where I had 32 and 12, and my agent said, that the Memphis Grizzlies have signed me to a 10-day deal, I nearly fainted. My dream to play in an NBA game was so close. My first game was against one of my favorite teams - the Heat. I was anxious to get in the game, but my agent said and I agreed, that I would probably play like 5 minutes, maybe not even that. But with 5 minutes gone, coach Hollins yelled my name. With the 3OT's there were, I played 31 minutes.

Image
One of many easy buckets I got against the Warriors defense..

So far with 5 games under me and 2 more before my contract runs out, I have played nearly 30 a night. I guess I bring what the Grizzlies need. When I come in a game, my mindset is simple - rebound, set screens, move without the ball and defend my match-up. Scoring is not on my mind. We have so many brilliant scorers on our team. Rudy can score from anywhere, OJ is the best jump-shooter I have seen in a very long time (hope I could shoot like that), Zach is a very underrated player who has great post skills. We are 3-2 now with me on board, following a loss to the Nuggets.

Image
The defense was like Swiss cheese. When I made cut, I was like thought what the ****? and OJ fed me straight away for the easy two..

The Nuggets game was very challenging. Went in and coach said to shut down my match-up, who was J.R at the time. It was very difficult. JR finished with 21 points. Also, when he went to the bench and Balkman came in, I had to defend Melo. I think he's the most difficult guy I have had to defend. He's as quick as a PG, as strong as a PF and shoots like a SG. Coach played me for 25 minutes and I think I actually did quite well. Yeah, he did finish with 34 points and 13 boards, but when I was in, Melo and J.R combined 20 points. So a simple math equation shoves they scored 35 points, when I wasn't in. But we still lost 106-99. I had 14 and 7, but shot just 7-18. Coach said my shot selection wasn't very good so that is one thing I tried to improve, when we played the Warriors next.

Image
Guarding Stephen Jackson has been the most mentally challenging match-up yet.

Rudy and O.J were saying in the locker-room before that it was gonna be an easy night against the Warriors. I felt good before the game with my usual mindset. Before the game, coach said he wanted to see me score and focus on rebounding, especially boxing out. I came in with 6 minutes to go in the first. I moved without the ball as usual, and I found myself wide open often and not beyond the arc, but in the painted area. We won the first quarter 34-18 and scored 13 points in the first, 6-6 from the field and a free throw. I was 9-10 in the first half and we had a 10-point lead. Our whole team kept going in the second half and we won 127-105.

Image
I called for a pass from Mike, but then saw Rudy fly to the hoop and then thought "never mind".

We shot almost 60% for the game and had 35 assists, although I had a season-low 2. But I did finish with 21 points and 7 boards on 10-13 shooting. Coach said this was my best game this season and I agree. Everyone talks about my debut, but that game had 3OT's. That game did give me a better feeling, as it was my debut on the big stage. But this game was better all-around. In my first game, T-Mac dropped 37 on me and Beasley had 31. I was really struggling against them. But we did well against the Warriors. Monta Ellis had just 15 and Stephen Jackson had 17. Maggette did score 16 in just 19 minutes, but that's what he does. It feels good after the game, when Ronny Turiaf if the opposing teams leading scorer. They did shoot 56% from the field though.

Image
Jaric is the only guy on the team I cant stand, especially when he's on the floor with me.

The only downside has been Marko Jaric. You can be wide open, but the still shoots. I mean he's a good shooter, but often he just dribbles for 20 seconds and shoots away. On the very first possession against the Warriors, I set a screen, he didn't use it, attracted my defender as well, I was wide open under the hoop, but he still shot a fade-away over Ellis and Wright. Then he just mumbled something in his native language. On the next posession, he asked for the ball, but I found my Sam instead for a two-handed slam. If I'm correct, the Warriors game was the last of my 10-day contract. Really hoping the Grizzlies sign me to a second one. All my teammates say that I have nothing to worry about. But I'm still worried. I'll let you know.

Got a nickname for you Parmer.

Michael 'Napalm' Parmer. You are a tactical weapon (combining all of your bball skills) used to remove vegetative cover (the other team) and instill fear (fear in your opponents).

Michael "The Farmer" Parmer. :P

I was wondering when a My Player story would pop up around here. I didn't think it was humanly possible to miss a rookie that could pull off LeBron James-esque numbers in 27 minutes.... What playstyle do you use and which real life NBA player would you compare yourself to?

Chapter #2 - Part of something special

Image
Two of my career high thirty two..

My agent didn't say anything about a second 10-day contract, but I'm still with the team, so I guess they did sign me. I think I should be informed about stuff like that but what can you do, huh?

We were on the road against the Mavericks for this one and the locker room wasn't anywhere near as loose as it was before the Warriors. I was nervous, but very excited and I had a good feeling during warm-ups. The shots were falling for me and me teammates where cheering me on and giving my high-fives. Except for that Jaric. Although I think coach Hollins spoke with him. Because he didn't attempt a shot in the 5 minutes he played. He usually has like 15 by then.

But now he just had 4 assists and helped us in the first quarter.

I checked the box score after the game and as it turned out, I beat my career high and the 30-point plateau. Yes, 32 points. And I got some good looks and was more aggressive and even shot 16-23 from the field, including 2 triples which were off. I was glad they didn't foul me, because I have really struggled with my free throws.

Z-Bo got a double-double with 20 and 11. Marc had a great all-around game with 12, 7 and 6. If Rudy and O.J had made their shots like they usually do, we would have won. I mean they shot just 9-25. They had 24 points combined. I wouldn't think in a million years when I signed with the team that I would score more points in a game then O.J and Rudy combined. I felt good after the game, but I couldn't feel good about the game because we lost.

Also, Shawn dunked on me. And not just once, twice! That sucked. And the game featured a magical feat. Jason Kidd, a player I looked up to in high school, is still playing ball. I mean, he's 36 and he had a career-high 25 freaking assists with 3 turnovers. That gives him a freaking good assist/turnover ratio. Mine is like 1.5 or smtg.

Thanks to his superb ball distribution, Dirk had 32 on 15-18 shooting, The Jet had 25, Shawn had 16 (4 of them over me), and Josh had 14, although he struggled a bit. But still the Mavericks shot 59%. They had 41 assists for god's sake!

Also, with this game, we could see what the coaches rotation looks like. Only 6 of us played significant minutes and only 9 players saw playing time. Darrell only played a minute and Jaric saw 5 minutes. Dumbass-Jaric deserved it, but not playing Hasheem, Steven and DeMarre at all I don't get. I'm glad I'm the sixth man of the team now. I feel really good about my situation.

I still have to do all the rookie-stuff, like going to games with pink bags and very tight orange suits, but hey, I'm in the NBA and I'm actually playing good minutes. I'm blessed.

Sit, I'd like to keep it simple. :P

Its_asdf, I'm a slasher, I don't shoot threes or in fact anywhere from about 20 feet. I like to crash the boards and move without the ball. Don't actually know a good comparison.

I move like Rip and Ray-Ray without the ball, but I can't shoot from distance. My range is similar to Josh Smith, but I'm nowhere near as good on D and I can't jump out of the gym. The closest I can think of are Corey Maggette (But pass more and don't dunk like that) and Jeff Green (but worse).

Thierry., thanks. Oh and your signature reminds of The Big Bang Theory. :D

Caught up with this. While I somewhat agree with the criticisms that you are already a superstar (which is really the game's fault, with its broken rotations and nonexistent interior D), this is very enjoyable and well-written. (Y)

Chapter #3 - Wizards have no spells against us.

Image
My boy Sam with the dunk of the year!

Man, the NBA keeps surprising me. Last game Jason dropped 25 dimes on us, now the Wizards just plain sucked and we won by 57!

That's right. And we beat the Wizards who had their full line-up with Gilbert, Antawn and Caron. But their defense was awful. Even more woeful than the Warriors'. But the Warriors had offense, something the Wizards didn't have tonight.

Arenas shot brick after brick, so did Foye and Caron. Mike James came in, shot 1-6, Jeff started and shot 0-4. Nick Young was 1-4 in 2 minutes. They missed so many shots and had such a low FG percentage in the first half, I had a double-double by halftime.

Because of their non-existent defense, we did everything we wanted inside. We checked the box score and were shocked - we shot 69% for the game! My boy Sam came in and shot lights out, including that dunk over 3 Wizards players (my assists, yeah!). That's the dunk of the year!

The Wizards shot 35% and were just 3-16 from three. Our defense is really getting better and we are working more and more on D. We have so many talented scorers on our team, it's time we worked on our D.

- Gone.

Thierry., it was odd, but he couldn't do anything, as Foye shot poor shot after poor shot.

Sit, I was so surprised. I was on the bench for a long time in the third-fourth quarter with us up by 30. Came back in and we were up by 50. :D

hova-, it really sucks to be posterized. :D

Chapter #4 - 'Spectacular' rookie, but a rookie nevertheless.

Image
Granger got me twice late.

What's up everybody? I guess we all know 'what's up' with Greg Oden, eh?

Anyway, we had a great laugh about that in the locker-room. We were in Indiana for this game, the second and the last time we face them. I was already with the team when we faced them the first time and we won. I had 21 points and 11 rebounds, but that doesn't matter. We won by double-digits.

Coach wanted me to concentrate on defense, because of Danny Granger. He's the NBA-s 4th leading scorer after Lebron, D-Wade and Devin Harris with 28.2.

I started the game on the bench as usual, but coach subbed me in quite soon. When I come in for Marc, we have a rotation of Z-Bo at C and Rudy at the PF, leaving me with guarding Danny. In the first half I think I did a good job. He scored 8 points on 3-10 shooting.

Danny was still quiet in the third quarter, making one three-pointer (over me, god dammit). But we were hurt from elsewhere. Especially T.J. Ford and Roy Hibbert. O.J struggled with his shots and Z-Bo struggled against the young Hibbert.

But the end of this game is the part I'd like to forget. The final minute started and I grabbed a rebound off the miss from Murphy. I put us up by 2 in the other end after a great feed from Mike.

The Pacers would miss again and I grabbed the board again. I wanted to put the game away, but missed an easy shot with little over 30 tics on the clock. We played great defense the next possession and Danny fired a shot over me. He missed, but Dahntay Jones came out of nowhere and grabbed the offensive board. I went to help, but Dahntay kicked it out to Danny.

He put the ball in the triple-threat position and I was on him. We were up by 2, so I prevented him to go straight to the hoop. But he shot over me, I did everything I could, I could even remember the sound of coach Hollins yelling 'good D'. But he knocked it down right in my face. We were down by 1.

Coach called a time-out and the play had the ball going to Rudy and if he can't catch it, I would set a screen to O.J and he would pull up for a jumper. But the play went wrong and Z-Bo almost didn't get it in. The ball went to Mike and I was down-low so O.J could cut off my screen for a jumper. The time was running out and Mike was in trouble.

I went to set a screen for him, but he passed me the ball. I wasn't confident but I had to take the last shot. I failed as Danny defended the shot well and to make matters worse, it was an air-ball.

After the game, we were shaking hands with the Pacers and Danny said to me : "Don't worry about the ending. Just keep working hard and you'll do fine in this league. You have talent, I can see it. You've been spectacular." I felt better after he said that.

My teammates were all supportive, that it's no big deal. I guess we'll see when the regular season ends and we're out of the Playoffs because of one loss. We are 9th in the West and this game could have put us into the 8th seed.

- Gone.

T.J made his shot. I must of missed the ball by less then an inch.
