Love the Noovember Recaps and Player Evals (Y)

McCants is shooting shit but 23 ppg is not bad at all, and you need to start James White! :P

Jae wrote:Also The X is right about McCants. He's basically the only reliable scorer I've got so I force a lot of shots with him. I think he'd be a lot more efficient with someone else to take the load off him, I REALLY need a PF who can score consistently.

Can you go small and move Miles to the 4? I think he'll work out fine there for you in terms of scoring, and he isn't that bad in terms of defense (You've still got Jones at the 5 covering)

This is very interesting and cool (Y) I did that in the early lives ( ´99, 2000). Just mess around with bad players in practice mode and then start a season with them.

McCants is doing very well. From the other guys I definitely like Dwayne Jones, wanted to sign him one day but he was askin for too much money. Jackie Butler also is not too bad.

I remember doing something similar with NBA Live 05, Ariza was my best player back then (when he used to be a scrub), he put up some all-star numbers for us. I guess McCants is your Ariza here. I like the concept.

PS. I voted for 1-5 as well, but that could even end up being too optimistic prediction

this is some quality stuff Jae

Are you using a "real" draft class? Or a generic one.

My bets are on 4 wins (you'll get back to back wins somewhere) and you'll get stuck with the 4th overall pick in the draft despite being the worst team in the league.
Opinions are my own.

Ok, so it looks like you are frustrated with your PG situation. If you're looking at D-League guys take a 10 day chance with Howard Stokes. He is super quick and has really good handles, he can't score at all, but if you need a PG off the bench to just run the offense he can deff be a good guy.

It's a generic one, probably should've gone with a real one but I like the generic ones purely because you don't know what you're gonna get.

I wish I'd read this earlier... when I created the team I filled it up with Ha-Seung Jin's because I didn't want duplicates that other teams would sign, so to sign all the others I released all the Ha's... now I can't release any more players and I just signed a D-Leaguer to round out the roster :(. Maybe next season.

Also, which smart asses voted None  ... next update will be tomorrow or the day after.

West, Cavs overcome resilient Claws
When LeBron struggles, the Cavs struggle and this was never more evident than tonight when the lowly Baltimore Claws came within 14 points of upsetting the heavily favoured Cleveland Cavaliers. James, who finished with 20 points and 13 assists, shot only 6/19 from the floor and struggled all game with the defensive attention of Darius Miles. Delonte West and Shaquille O'Neal picked up the slack however, with the former pouring in 19 points including two huge threes which sealed the game for Cleveland in the fourth. The Claws at one stage looked to be storming back into the game after a 12-0 run to start the second quarter triggered by some amazing defense from big man Dwayne Jones, but the frontcourt combination of O'Neal and Zydrunas Ilgauskas shut down their dribble penetration on offense and stabilized the game. LeBron found his shooting touch in the fourth as the Cavs pick up their 4th win of the season 84-71. Rashad McCants finished with 22 points on 10/23 shooting for the visitors, while Dwayne Jones put on a dominant defensive display pulling down 15 rebounds and blocking 7 shots.

December 11th
Baltimore Claws
67 (0-6) @ Atlanta Hawks 107 (6-3)

Hawks dominate as the Claws capitulate
The Baltimore Claws wrote an unflattering new chapter in their book as they let a 7 point deficit after the first quarter balloon into a 40 point demolition at the hands of the Atlanta Hawks. Al Horford, who was perfect from the field on his way to scoring 14 points and pulling down 14 rebounds, lead the way for Atlanta constantly bringing down offensive boards and shutting down any attempts Baltimore made to score at the hoop. Jamal Crawford contributed with 16 points but the win was a total team effort as 7 players finished in double figures for scoring. A 35-19 fourth quarter in Atlanta's favour wrapped up a game in which the Claws playing staff looked like they couldn't wait to be done with. Mickael Gelabale was the only player to offer any resistance, finishing with 14 points and 6 rebounds while Rashad McCants only managed 10 points on 4 for 20 shooting, 13 below his season average.

December 14th

94 (0-7) vs New York Knicks 109 (2-7)

Knicks outlast Claws in battle of the leagues worst teams
No one expected much from a game in which the teams involved had a combined total of 1 win and 14 losses, but the Knicks and Claws played out an entertaining and fast paced game that ultimately saw New York stroll home in the fourth quarter with a 15 point win. The Knicks made a fast start in the first quarter, before Maurice Ager exploded off the bench with 11 points in just 4 minutes. At the beginning of the second the Claws made team history by taking their first ever lead with a Rashad McCants three making the score 31-29. The Knicks barely left any time for celebration as they subsequently went on a 14-2 run thanks to some excellent long range shooting from Nate Robinson (24 points, 14 assists) and Wilson Chandler (19 points, 8 rebounds) and wound up finishing the half up by 10. The game remained even until the fourth quarter when the Claws managed to cut the lead back to 6 points, but it was too late as the Knicks frontcourt of David Lee and Jordan Hill, who had pulled down 25 rebounds between them, combined to keep the Claws off the glass and guarantee the Knicks only their 2nd win of the season. For Baltimore, Rashad McCants bounced back with 20 points while Maurice Ager poured in 18 in just 13 minutes of play.

December 17th
Baltimore Claws
90 (1-7) @ Memphis Grizzlies 88 (6-8)

Team effort gives Baltimore first ever NBA win
It may have taken eight games but the Baltimore Claws finally have their first victory, defeating the Memphis Grizzlies 90-88 in a game they almost let slip away. Getting out to an early lead thanks once again to Maurice Ager (14 points, 14 minutes), the Grizzlies turned a three point deficit in the first quarter into a three point lead by half time with Hasheem Thabeet dominating defensively and on the boards (12 rebounds, 3 blocks). The Claws came out firing in the third with Nick Fazekas scoring 8 of his 10 points in the first 4 minutes of the half. With the score tied going into the fourth quarter, Baltimore went on a 5-0 run once again thanks to Fazekas and Ager then continued that trend, blowing the lead out to 11 for the majority of the quarter. The Grizzlies fought back through OJ Mayo and Rudy Gay (18 and 17 points respectively) and managed to pull the lead down to 2 with only 8 seconds remaining but Zach Randolph's mid range jump shot was blocked by Mickael Gelabale and the Claws managed to hold on for their first ever win. Rashad McCants lead the way with 18 points and 8 rebounds, Gelabale finished with 17 and 6 while for the Grizzlies Zack Randolph's 11/8/5 was overshadowed by his last second failure.

BALTIMORE CLAWS SIGN RICH PAYTON
The Baltimore Claws have today announced the signing of NBDL star Rich Payton of the Los Angeles D-Fenders. The 6'11 Payton who went undrafted out of Louisville averaged 21 points, 9 rebounds and 1 block per game for the D-Fenders including a 36 point outburst against the Springfield Armor. His signing comes just days after the club announced they had released big man Ha-Seung Jin from his one year contract. Payton will be on the Baltimore bench for the game against Indiana on December 30th.

December 30th
Baltimore Claws

Granger, Pacers overcome McCants career night to down Claws
Coming off their first win, the Claws came out firing to start their game with the Pacers as Rashad McCants scored 9 straight points to give them the lead at the end of the first quarter. The game remained even in the second with Danny Granger (25 points, 8 rebounds) and Jason Terry (17 points) finding some shooting form but McCants continued to tear the Pacers defense apart, scoring 24 of his 36 points before half time. Having had time to reevaluate, Indiana came out focused in the second half and managed to open up a five point lead thanks mostly to the excellent interior defensive effort of Roy Hibbert (6 blocks) who was able to put the reins on McCants and force him to resort to outside jump shot. Baltimore were always trailing in the fourth and while the effort was admirable, the Pacers just had too much firepower and continued on to win the game by 8 points. McCants 36 points were a career high but he was not well supported with only Mickael Gelabale reaching double figures in scoring with 12. Dwayne Jones grabbed 13 rebounds and blocked 6 shots but ultimately lost his battle with Roy Hibbert inside.

Great job finally getting the win. Way to recover from the blowout loss at the hands of the Knicks. The awesome thing is that your record pro-rata will probably end up being better than that of the real Nets this season.

Sad to see Ha go though.

Thanks guys, yeah I didn't wnat to let Ha go because he's 7'3 but he is also insanely useless to a scary degree so I figured I'd give someone else a shot.

Player evals will come up after the weekend, then it'll probably be a week or two before the next update because there's 8 games in January. I might split them into 2 parts or something.

Yep pretty sure they're gone I just couldn't be bothered releasing them all. That's partially why I chose them to get rid of because outside of Harris and Lopez the rest wouldn't be missed

Damn, I picked a really bad season to hop on New Jersey's bandwagon.

Anyway, I like the idea of having a bunch of washed up/underachievers shoved into one team and seeing what happens. I've been a closet fan of a lot of those players on your roster.

22.1 PPG | 3.6 RPG | 3.8 APG | 1.9 SPG | 0.3 BPG | 2.0 TOPG | .399 FG% | .250 3P% | .655 FT%
McCants numbers have dropped slightly of late but that is mostly due to the emergence of Mickael Gelabale as a legitimate offensive weapon at the power forward position. I think McCants showed he has superstar potential after his 36 point outburst against the Indiana Pacers, he also added 5 assists there and shot over 50% from the field. He has mixed his game up more in the last month in other statistical categories; 8 rebounds against Memphis, 6 against Atlanta, 5 assists against Indiana and 6 against Cleveland.

Grade: A

Image
8.8 PPG | 4.1 RPG | 1.9 APG | 1.1 SPG | 1.3 BPG | 1.4 TOPG | .455 FG% | .153 3P% | .416 FT%
Miles is largely inconsistant, evident by the fact that in December he had only two of five games in which he figured in double digits in scoring. He does a good job defensively though and made life especially difficult for LeBron James in the loss to Cleveland. His defensive output makes him valuable but with James White being so impressive off the bench his days in the starting line-up may be limited.

Grade: C+

Image
7.1 PPG | 1.7 RPG | 5.3 APG | 1.3 SPG | 0.6 BPG | 2.4 TOPG | .400 FG% | .200 3P% | .454 FT%
Has been somewhat stable compared to last month, is beginning to look for his shot more and as a result has raised his scoring average. His assists have been steady of late too, finishing with 5 or better in every game in December, including 8 against Atlanta and 7 against Cleveland. Has solidified his starting spot by virtue of no one else on the team stepping up at point guard and staking a claim.

Grade: C

Image
4.4 PPG | 10.6 RPG | 1.3 APG | 0.4 SPG | 3.8 BPG | 1.7 TOPG | .395 FG% | .000 3P% | 100 FT%
Despite his rebounding numbers dropping, Jones has had his most dominating performance in December, pulling down 15 rebounds and blocking 7 shots against Cleveland. He has blocked 3 or more shots in every game, and is averaging 4 blocks per game overall for the month. Having Gelabale next to him has taken off a lot of pressure offensively but he is still not a factor there as of yet.

Grade: B+

Image
6.6 PPG | 4.5 RPG | 1.4 APG | 0.6 SPG | 1.4 BPG | 0.9 TOPG | .510 FG% | .000 3P% | .625 FT%
Since returning to the team and having to play off the bench, Swift has improved his shotblocking by a surprising degree. Whether it's because he isn't having to force his offensive game so much or he's just trying to get back into the starting line-up I don't know but he is averaging 2 blocks per game in December.

Grade: B-

Image
4.6 PPG | 1.9 RPG | 1.5 APG | 0.5 SPG | 0.4 BPG | 0.8 TOPG | .586 FG% | .000 3P% | 100 FT%
Continues to be the most efficient scorer on the Baltimore team, Fazekas has had an ok month, and topped it off by leading the teams fight-back against Memphis with 10 points and 2 blocks in just 7 minutes, which ultimately won them the game. Aside from that performance though he has been relatively invisible, scoring only 4 points in the other 4 games.

Grade: C-

Image
10.6 PPG | 3.9 RPG | 1.6 APG | 1.1 SPG | 0.4 BPG | 1.9 TOPG | .435 FG% | 100% 3P% | .625 FT%
Averaging 14ppg as a starter, Gelabale has taken a massive amount of weight off the shoulders of Rashad McCants. Using his quickness he can take most power forwards off the dribble and has improved his shooting touch somewhat as well. His rebounding is fairly weak, but Dwayne Jones is one of the best in the NBA in that department so it is not affecting the team a great deal. Needs to improve defensively but has had an impressive season thus far.

Grade: B

Image
4.8 PPG | 0.4 RPG | 1.0 APG | 0.5 SPG | 0.4 BPG | 1.0 TOPG | .480 FG% | .000 3P% | .000 FT%
With the emergence of Maurice Ager and James White, Dupree has struggled for any sort of court time lately. Whether this will change is hard to say but as long as those two are playing so well he will continue to be chained to the bench.

Grade: Incomplete

Image
6.8 PPG | 1.6 RPG | 1.3 APG | 0.5 SPG | 0.5 BPG | 1.1 TOPG | .407 FG% | .375 3P% | 100 FT%
Really came flying out of the blocks this month, has looked inconsistant and streaky in the past but really showed his worth against Memphis and New York, scoring 14 and 18 respectively in very very little minutes. Can get to the hoop better than almost anyone else on the team and draws fouls with ease. Looks like a lite version of Rashad McCants with a better outside shot.

Grade: B-

Image
2.8 PPG | 2.3 RPG | 0.3 APG | 1.5 SPG | 0.8 BPG | 1.3 TOPG | .444 FG% | .000 3P% | .750 FT%
Lost his roster spot to Fazekas after his return and with Stromile Swift returning to the line-up really has no place on the team anymore.

Grade: F

Image
1.6 PPG | 0.2 RPG | 1.2 APG | 0.4 SPG | 0.0 BPG | 1.0 TOPG | .176 FG% | .000 3P% | 100 FT%
Continues to struggle offensively, makes it really difficult to give him any court time when he can't hit a shot.

Grade: F

Image
2.1 PPG | 1.2 RPG | 2.9 APG | 0.1 SPG | 0.0 BPG | 1.4 TOPG | .350 FG% | .200 3P% | 100 FT%
Has really stepped up his game this month, while not scoring particularly well aside from a 7 point performance against Indiana, his assist numbers have been extremely impressive off the bench. Against Indiana he finished with 4, 3 against New York, 4 against Atlanta and topped it off with 7 against Memphis in 13 minutes.

Grade: C-

Image
7.5 PPG | 1.3 RPG | 1.7 APG | 0.8 SPG | 0.0 BPG | 0.7 TOPG | .525 FG% | .000 3P% | .600 FT%
Coming off the bench White is averaging 7.5 points per game in just 11.7 minutes. He has turned into a quick and efficient weapon at small forward and despite lacking an outside jump shot, his penetration is as good as anybodys. Could only be a matter of time before he is starting, defensively needs some work but offensively is leaps and bounds ahead of Darius Miles.

Grade: B+

Image
4.0 PPG | 1.3 RPG | 0.5 APG | 0.0 SPG | 0.3 BPG | 0.5 TOPG | .500 FG% | .666 FG% | .000 FT%
Has lost his spot on the bench to Rich Payton but is still a good back-up to have around. Had a couple of good games in New York and Atlanta, scoring 4 points in each while playing less than 10 minutes in both.

Grade: D+

Image
0.0 PPG | 3.0 RPG | 1.0 APG | 0.0 SPG | 1.0 BPG | 1.0 TOPG | .000 FG% | .000 3P% | .000 FT%
Signed from the Los Angeles D-League team, Payton has only played in one game and finished with 3 rebounds, an assist and a block in 6 minutes which surpasses anything Ha-Seung Jin has ever done. Looks a good prospect.

Grade: Incomplete

Don't know if I'd say McCants has superstar potential. Numbers seem pretty similar to what Ricky Davis use to put up for Cleveland just prior to the arrival of Lebron. That's probably more an apt comparison :P

You wait, I'll get the LeBron out of him somehow.

How many games will the Claws win this season?

None: 3 votes
1-5: 13 votes
5-10: 3 votes
10-15: 0 votes
15-20: 0 votes
20+: 0 votes

So most of you think 1-5, that looks pretty likely.

New poll question up.
