Im sitting around here thinking about the direction of my life and the bullshit thats led me to this point (some of it good, some of it bad) and got the idea for this thread.
Apply to grad school
I cant believe I actually did this, but 2 years and a shitty job market later: it seems to be my only choice to pursue a career in what I want to do. Who would've thought?

I swore for years this wasnt what i wanted to do. I fought tooth and nail everytime it was suggested...now...it seems to be my only logical choice of a degree that'd serve me a purpose and get me a job
Quit Playing WoW
Oddly enough, as little as a year ago i wouldnt've believed i'd give it up. 1 summer away from it was all it took. The spell was broken (and an xbox 360 later) and I dont even have the game installed anymore.

Due to my body crapping out and coming back here: i talk to 1 friend from college. Some of it has to do with me, some of it has to do with them. Either way i didnt see it coming

Darius rucker came to my work this summer and sat at the table with the kids i was working with. Good guy
Have a kid die that I knew
I knew it came with the territory working with kids with disabilities and terminal illnesses. Little did i know it was going to happen 3 weeks into working with them. One of the toughest days of my life and she wasnt even one of the kids i was in charge of. But it did help me realize I'd be able to handle it and that this is truly what I want to do with my life

I'd say drinking alcohol counts for me. I never had an interest in it through high school, so I was one of those rare people that didn't actually try alcohol until I legally could. Ultimately spent a few years going out pretty much every week, but now just enjoy a beer with a meal or a few at a BBQ/party (as opposed to some of the big nights my friends and I used to have).

Also, I certainly never would've thought I'd have a friend take their own life, sadly a couple of years ago I was proven wrong. Doesn't quite fit the phrasing of the topic but I'm guessing it still qualifies.

Ditto. It was the realization that escaping (whether it would be WoW or other games) doesn't produce anything worthwhile in the end. I still play games for entertainment, but there's more worthwhile things to do.

- I never thought I'd pierced my ear. I've always wanted to but I never thought about doing so seriously. Now that I did, I kinda regret it because the holes are pretty damn hard to heal properly.
- I'd say drinking alcohol counts for me as well. When I was young I've always thought that alcohol beverages taste horrible.
- I never thought I'd be able to grab the rim. I was real short until I was 16. Grew 10 cm that year and I was able to grab the rim later on that year. Now I'm a few inches away from dunking. Sigh..

amazingly enough alot of women dont give two shits about looks. Go figure.

One thing I learned is that while shallow girls do exists in the world, most girls would believe the lies that come outta ur mouth. I'm more confident now then ever and if I didn't have a girlfriend I probably have 3-4 girls I can hook up with right away. Yeah, not all girls I've touched are pretty, I've probably only been with 2/3 good looking girls out of 12-13 that I've hooked up. But yeah, most of them are decent at the least. And I suffered from a low self-esteem as a child so I really didn't think I'd hook up with more then 5 girls in my whole life.

- Having 2 dogs, let alone one. I was always a cat person but somewhere along the way my preference changed.
- Being a much better basketball player after 7 years & an additional 30kg (65lbs) out of the game, with my jumpshot not losing a beat at all
